Watched that video and discovered I’ve been pronouncing lots of names wrong!

I watched the video and 2 others they had on the YouTube channel. I have definitely been mispronouncing a few of them.
This video was very informative (You Nesba!!), I'm hesitating between watching more of them and remembering which authors I wasn't sure about the pronunciation or waiting for next year's list to take shape. It's so funny, in French most people don't know that Stephen King is pronounced Steven King and say SteFen King. I know that, but every time I say his name in French I feel kinda pressured to say SteFen King otherwise people won't know who I'm talking about 🤣
This Stephen conversation is reminding me of the Starbucks/Dog meme of Steve with a ph "Phteven". It never fails to make me laugh. That dog!
Nadine wrote: "I often wonder why Stephen is often the V sound but Stephanie is always the F sound."As a Steven, I do get annoyed having to say "Steven with a V" when giving my information on the phone.

My last name is Thompson - always always always I have to say “Thompson with a p” - and then sometimes they want to know if there’s an h, and is it “son” or something else - it’s this super common name but I always have to spell it. (And yes once I had a boss who was from another country and he would pronounce the th.). Coincidentally, my office is ON “Thompson Rd,” but I still have to spell my name.
So, I haven't read any Jo Nesbo books yet, but I do have some on my to-read list. I will not be using that one for my "author's name you don't know how to pronounce," because now I do know how to pronounce it. However, I didn't even know I was wrong to start with, so it wouldn't have been picked for that prompt anyway. I never would have known the character's pronunciation, either. And just to round out my ignorance about this author, I assumed that Jo was a female. I am so grateful to have learned all of these things, and will go in feeling more prepared when I do start reading the Harry Hole books.I am not going to watch any of the videos right now, so that I can save up authors that I might use for that prompt, but I will definitely be returning to this discussion after I pick my book/author, so that I can educate myself about some of these other names. Thanks for sharing the links!
I knew Harry Hole was Holya but I had no idea I was saying Jo Nesbo wrong!!! And I am not going to watch that video until after I choose my “unsure” author, if needed :-)
Nadine wrote: "I often wonder why Stephen is often the V sound but Stephanie is always the F sound."Because English is fraught with contradictions. LOL I evaluate English as Second Language teachers and the things they have to explain to English Learners is mind boggling.
Rachel wrote: "The discussion reminds me of this Michael McIntyre joke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69UlV..."That was really funny! 😂
