Book Synopsis:
Former cop Lily Yu has her sister's wedding to attend, a missing magical staff to find, and now must deal with her grandmother's decision to return to the old country. Lily could turn to the man she's involved with for advice, but for all the passion that flares between them, she doesn't really know Rule Turner--she's just bound to him for life. Rule happens to be a werewolf, and Lily wonders just how far she can trust him.

I'm just starting this. I read the first book 2+ years ago and I was really hoping to refresh my memory of it by rereading, but I just didn't get around to it. I hope when reading this one details will come back as I can't quite remember it.

The author is putting in tidbits to help with that, Danielle. I'm having trouble remembering the finer details of book one, too, but there's enough refreshers that I'm following it easily. I'm up to chapter 26, but I got to a point last night where I couldn't put it down!

Enjoy! There is a lot of setup and world building in the beginning, but then things start happening and wow! I'm hooked! Even the world building was fascinating to me.

Yep, I love the way Lily takes charge! It moves pretty fast from Chapter 19 on. (view spoiler)[I thought it was cool how all the wolves just stopped in the middle of the road, left the cars, and shifted to run to Lily's aide. Smart thinking on Rule's part to have a panic button. (hide spoiler)]

I'm not sure about skipping first book. I'm a read in order in all series. As I said above I read book 1 over 2 years ago and there were tibits in this second book that refreshed my memory of the events of book 1.

It's not to late to read Tempting Danger then join and discuss Mortal Danger. I'm almost done, but I'll keep notifications on and if you comment, I'm sure those who has finished will comment back to you and others will be later reading.

1. I can't believe this just referenced Phil Donahue. That was a little before my time, but I remember seeing one or two episodes when I was little.

2. Cullen is the shit. I'm having a hard time seeing him and Cynna together, but I haven't seen much of Cynna yet.

I know, right!? Cullen is a neat character. I really liked him in the first book and I think the whole (view spoiler)[adopted into the Nikolai Clan (hide spoiler)] enhances his loyalty to Rule. I wasn't sure about Cynna at first either and I'm still having trouble picturing her in my mind. The book cover for the third book helps a little though.

I'll have my notifications on for this thread until everyone catches up, so there is still time! I'm thinking about requesting a BR for the next book, but I need to check my calendar. It'll be a couple of weeks since I have a few others coming up.

About chapter 8,

(view spoiler)[ In the urban fantasies I've read so far it always seems to me that werewolves aged differently than humans. For a second I thought it weird that Lily didn't know that and acted so shocked. In comparison to other UF for example the Mercy Thompson series, 54 years old is actually young for a werewolf :)

I like Cullen the most in the series. He has that carefree but honest vibe to him. Cynna has a bit of a snarky side which I usually can appreciate but I have to read further. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8: (view spoiler)[At first I thought that strange, too. After thinking about it, I figured in this particular world, the Lore, especially with regard to the werewolves and their rules, are very clandestine. Grandmother probably knows, but it makes sense that Lily wasn't told if the laws forbade it. I had assumed that the wolves were immortal and was a little surprised by the life expectancy. I'm curious to find out if the mate bond or some other magick will prolong Lily's years. (hide spoiler)]

I was disappointed about that, too. It sounds like Lily knows what she is (maybe), but I want details! (view spoiler)[I thought that Dragons were neat and Sam was awesome. Part of me wonders if Grandmother knew they were coming and went to China to arrange for their arrival. Hmmm..... (hide spoiler)]

Now I need to figure out where to squeeze in the next book. I have Series OCD and want to plunge right into the next one.

@ Becky, Katie and Danielle: (view spoiler)[ yes, me too. I automatically assume that the werewolf lore is the same in every UF. Although, now that I think of it, in the Kate Daniels the shapeshifters age at a normal pace (if I remember correctly). Also in Lupi there isn't a 'pack connection', Cullen was sure that Rule died even though he's pack, only Lily has a connection via the mate bond.

Btw the kangaroo demon Gan seems pretty cute :) (hide spoiler)]

I keep seeing this orange version of the kangaroo in the DishTV commercials... then I remember it has boobies and little bits. Ah, well...Gan's amusing and plays a big part in the last half of the book. I'm wondering if he'll be around for book 4? (hide spoiler)]

I do enjoy Kate and Curran! I'm only through book 3 and things are just getting interesting between them. Love Kate's wit.

Finished it. I agree with Katie, I would like to know more about the grandmother after what Sam said.

I liked the addition of Cynna. We will probably see more of her due to her new position.

Such a great series. When I'm done with Kate Daniels and World of the Lupi, I'm going to have to get back to the Weather Wardens, or Dresden Files, or Psy-Changelings, or.... *sigh*
