Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments I started this book this morning. I'm listening to the audiobook.

I am a HUGE fan of P Rothfuss so matter what happens in this book, I will not be swayed.

However, I found the author's intro rather off putting - it feels like an apology... I hope it's not deserved.

Of course I want to know more of Kvothe's story! But Auri is amazing too. Here we go.....

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments Like others, I'd love to see a map of the underthing! I'm curious about the illustrations in the book - as I have the audio, I've got no access to the pictures.

Auri's sympathy of the seemingly inanimate objects is lovely, especially her concern for the way intruders look carelessly at the underthing's 'objects'.

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments The title is perfect for this book!

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments I'm finding it really interesting (and not necessarily in a good way) that Auri cares so very much more for the sensibilities of inanimate objects (aka 'silent things') than she does for real things, like the little skunk.....

Kimberly (poweki) | 1713 comments So.... I've just finished. I liked it. I did not love it. But I liked it. I found it interesting to find out more about Auri.

What I did not like were the foreword and afterword by the author - apologizing for his less than stellar work. I've never seen that before and I do not wish to see it again.

If he felt it was crap or alienating, he shouldn't have published it. If he felt it was worth publishing, he should have let the book stand for itself. Rothfuss walks a fine line between arrogance and humility. I know this from reading his writing. I don't need him to be so blatant about it.

Anyway, I'm finished. 2.5 stars from me - rounded up to 3.
