Thank you for the link! Especially because I might have to talk to someone about the Ice and Fire series. I'm on the second book and I don't get what all the hype is about really. After so many great epic fantasies, how is this one better? It's no Wheel of Time, I'll tell you that.

I've been trolling the other teams & borrowed Logan's awesome countdown counter for our thread. Thanks Logan!

Now I'm off to copy some of your amazing questions too......

(Don't hate me for being a thread thief! I'm new. Gotta grab good ideas where I find them ;) )

Kristie | 3595 comments Hi Tory! Welcome to the team. :)

message 357: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Sorry RL has gotten in the way from me having time to do a more than a word or two post.

@Kristie ~ I can't believe I forgot to mention Harry Potter series as a favorite *bad girl* * bad girl*

@Sarah ~ Les Miserables - never read but it is one of my favorite broadway shows. Hubby and I lucked out on our honeymoon - it included tickets to see a show. We didn't know what to pick and the ticket sellers said this was good....... they weren't kidding it was awesome to see onstage in London.....Fabulous!! We've seen it at least twice more since then. Once with our children.

1. What is your favorite branch of science? - I'm a nurse as well so I would have to go with biology/anatomy

2. What are your favorite colors? I love all blues and most purples - sunset colors.

3. If you were on a desert island, what tool would you most want? (Only one, you cheaters!) Something to make fire.....or could I just bring McGuyver

4. Have you ever had a near death experience? (If this one's too sensitive, obviously you don't have to answer it). No - thank the lord.

5. If you found one thousand dollars and know it didn't belong to anybody else, but you could only spend the $1000 on one thing, what would it be? In reality I would probably pay bills but going on a trip sounds awesome. I would love to go to Spain - I've never been or back to Rome and see more of Italy or do the Greek Isles cruise again.

How sad is it that I thought he was totally hot growing up,lol. I loved his show.
Plus if we could bring him ......we wouldn't have to worry about anything :D

Kristie | 3595 comments Oh, I thought the same thing. :) And yes, he could definitely fix anything you needed!

message 361: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Hi Tory. Welcome!

I signed up for the Harry Potter buddy read. It's been a while since I've read those.

I watched McGyver when I was little but barely remember it...

Speaking of the 80s, I saw the most horribly awesome 1980s Aerobics Champions video on facebook today ... if you need a good laught I highly recommend it. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=...

Yeah, I'm having to whittle down my November reads! Harry Potter, while short, is still going to have to wait. I know Tea's waiting too, so that makes it easier.

Thanks for the update!

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Question for the team:

How do you all feel about mini-challenges amongst ourselves? I know the last round my captain was great about running periodic challenges to keep things interesting, but with the buddy reads this time around maybe it's less necessary?

What do you all think? What would you like in order to have the most fun?

message 368: by Tory (new)

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 240 comments I'll be doing the Harry Potter and Crime and Punishment buddy reads.

Mini-challenges could be fun.

Does anyone know if they are doing those puzzles for bonus points again this game?

Mini challenges sound super fun! I don't know if I'd be able to complete them because I have so many buddy reads scheduled that I might not be able to fit in anything else.

message 375: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Great! I will put my thinking cap on and post a mini challenge soon. As we go along, if you have ideas for one, just let me know!

message 376: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 05, 2014 10:02AM) (new)

Ok I'm really just putting this here for me so I can come back to it later, but here are the buddy reads I am participating in as of now. There will probably be more added in the future, but since November is full up here we go:

November
Gentleman Bastard Series (Lies of Locke Lamora Book #1) = BOM (no questions)
The Dark Tower Series (Gunslinger Book #1) = Buddy Read
Harry Potter Series (Sorcerer's Stone Book #1) = Buddy Read
Outlander Series (Outlander Book #1)= Buddy Read
Wheel of Time Series (Eye of the World Book #1) = Buddy Read

December
The Master and Margarita = Buddy Read
Gentleman Bastard Series ( )
The Dark Tower Series ( )
Harry Potter Series ( )
Outlander Series ( )
Wheel of Time Series ( )

January
The Brothers Karamazov = Buddy Read
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell = Buddy Read
The D'Artagnan Romances Series (The Three Musketeers Book #1) = Buddy Read
Gentleman Bastard Series ( )
The Dark Tower Series ( )
Harry Potter Series ( )
Outlander Series ( )
Wheel of Time Series ( )

I will update this post every time I add something new. So Mods, when in doubt, check this out! ;)

message 377: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 05, 2014 09:55AM) (new)

Also, because I'm annoying I'm going to ask another question. I am reading a TON of series buddy reads in November. Meaning I'm starting with the first book and continuing on. Do we get points per series or per book? Meaning, when I finish the first HP book, do I get buddy read points when I read the second? I am just wondering if I should beef up my December and January buddy reads, or if I should just continue the series into those months (if I get points for them).

Thanks!

message 378: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments You can get points for each book in the series. Any book you read with a buddy will count, so as long as there's someone from another team interacting with you, you'll get the BR points, whether on a series thread or individual thread.

I don't think there will be a bunch of different cupcakes this round but I'm not sure if they will or won't have puzzles for fun/possibly bonus points. It seems like (and this is just observation, no inside knowledge whatsoever) they are more interested in encouraging discussion of the books, rather than just giving "cupcake points", which is where the buddy reads/bom bonus points come in. They've tweaked this round to include points for chunksters, which also seems to make cupcake points moot.

message 386: by [deleted user] (new)

So Mods I thought that every time I finish a book and put it on my Tower Teams' shelf I will also put it on this post along with the points. I am a stickler for job/reading organization, mostly because my actual personal life is so unorganized lol But, anyway, here is my post for all the books I finish + what I get points for. This will remained updated every time I read something new (along with my shelf). Can you tell I'm excited about the challenge!? *crazy person cackle*

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Kristin and Melissa - Shadow and Bone is SO GOOD. One of my favorite series I have ever read. I have a very special place in my heart for this book. I hope you enjoy it!

message 389: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I'm hoping to join Shadow and Bone too. I keep hearing that it's good, but it keeps getting pushed down my TBR by other reads. This may be a good time to get to it.

I'll try to update the buddy reads I hope to read this weekend. Work has been super busy.

And I'm thoroughly jealous :p That's what I always wanted to do, since elementary school. I was always discouraged from it because there aren't many jobs and it doesn't pay well, etc. But it's always a dream of mine, digging in dirt :D

It's never too late if you really do like it. I doesn't pay badly, really. I mean, not well lol but about average. With a masters the average salary is ~50k. Better than what I thought I was going to make as a creative writer, that's for sure!! ;)
