Elves of Deep Shadow
I have no problem with this at all Logan ~ only thing is if I read the rules right - we can only claim one word per book we read :(So not sure which one you would want to claim.....if I read the rules wrong and we can claim as many words per book as able .....that would be great!!
Here is what I've found (I had a few minutes lol)
p143 fish
p235 crab
p14 summer
p69 wine
p12 Chris
p283 snake(s)
p8 rock
p108 Rose
p 11 mate
p275 reef(s)
Pffft. You think I read rules? What am I, the captain?Okay, Melissa is right. One item per book - so! Why don't we try to keep a running tab of who finds each item anyway, so that way I can kind of move books around to fill less frequent categories. If we have a ton of people with trees, and each of them has other words they could fit, then I'll move them.
Even if you see someone else has posted about the word, list it anyway!
Make sense?
And thanks for catching that Melissa!!
No problem as I was really excited about finding as many words as possible ....until I read that claim 1 word per book rule.....darn Mods LOL
Yeah I know, that's why I was thinking hardest words first because I was like oh god, we have to read a million books! ;)
RULES UPDATEMods have decided we can get points for multiple readers finding the same word. Each individual can only find each word once, however.
So Melissa can't find "crab" in two different books and claim 10 points. But if Taryn and Melissa both find "crab" we can claim 10 points.
Also, settings can count as finding an item. Approved examples include: books set in Australia count for "downunder," books set in the Southern US count for "southern," and books set in Britain count for "Britain." The word doesn't have to be found specifically in the text or on the cover, but the setting should be clear from the summary.
Plurals and conjugated forms of words will count. ("Drilled" for drill, "dogs" for dog, etc.)
Okay I'm going to go back and check HP and the Half Blood Prince to see what all words there are.
I'm currently reading Yellow Crocus, which has a gold border on the cover. We could use it for gold. Or do you just want us to update when we've finished a book?
Let me know when you finish it too, so I can make sure it shows up correctly on the spreadsheet. Kelly made us a new tab in our official spreadsheet to track this hunt.

So basically, Half-Blood Prince can be our sneak attack book that fills in the one category we'll be missing at the end. :)

I need to read that series, Melissa! I may start it next. And omg....the alerts for this thread stopped. I just now saw the Australia Day challenge. :( I'll see if I can go through the books I've finished in that time period and find any words. I know I probably have a few of those in recent books. I'll check it out when I get home.
I just saw the challenge too. Lol and I've already read the first three Harry Potter books.

Also, I'm listening to an audiobook. Assuming I finish it in time, is there a place where I can search the book but also get a page number? I did the google advanced book search, but it only found the words on the pages but didn't provide a page number. Or should I just do that and quote the sentence it's in?
So, I'm hoping to finish Bruiser and Cress by the 31st. I'm pretty sure that 2 of the main characters said they are in the same "English" class in Bruiser. I'm starting to go through Cress now for words. How do you find the lists of words that everyone is posting?

And Taryn....it works for some books. The last one I finished is only in kindle form, and for whatever reason, I can't search inside it. But another book that has a book form available allows me to search. Weird. Luckily, I'll be able to search my audiobook if I can finish it in time. :) Thanks!
Oh yeah, sorry I don't know any other way but that.
Taryn wrote: "Oh yeah, sorry I don't know any other way but that."Oh, it's all good. I'm just searching my kindle book, but I'll definitely use Amazon for the audiobook. HUGE help, thanks!
I see the list, but I couldn't tell where the words are in the books. Well, I guess I'll go with "pool" for Bruiser, since there was a whole scene already in a pool and it is mentioned several times. And "sand" for Cress, since they were stuck in a desert for a while, so sand was mentioned a lot. Neither of those have been taken on the list so far. I'll be sure to finish them both on time.

Oh gotcha. I am just using the search feature on my Kindle to search for every word in my book. The Amazon Look Inside feature we were talking about allows you to search inside most books (in the case of reading a hard copy of a book).
Oh! Got it. I looked up Amazon Look Inside and it just brought me to a how it works page. Thanks for the help!
You're welcome! Here's my list of words from Offside that I finished the other day. Cheers for a character having a father named Anthony and a hockey goalie practicing his hand-eye coordination with tennis balls. :D

Considering how long the list is, and that the challenge is only a week long, I'd say that if you find an item in your book (no matter how common of a word) include it in your final list. Items will be filled first come, first served.
I don't have a problem with claiming words, either. So if you search a book you're reading, but aren't quite finished, you can let me know and I'll put your name down for them. Then the rest of us know we don't have to worry about that word.
I'll add Taryn's and Melissa's words above to our tracking post.
Does this all sound fair?
