~Melissa~ Hey ~ welcome to the team Christine and Kate!!

Make a shelf to put your books for this challenge on once your done reading and then ....just read :)

Here is my shelf so you have an idea

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

When I read a book that fits the page requirements I add it to the shelf

message 752: by [deleted user] (new)

What's the page requirement? 170 pages right?

message 753: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Mąđąɱε Mąℓïƈε wrote: "What's the page requirement? 170 pages right?"

Has to be 100 pgs or more - 100 - 160 earns 10 pts......

message 754: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I see! That sounds fair enough. Do we get more points for bigger books? Like 500 pages?

message 755: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Welcome to the team ladies! I'll get you added to our spreadsheets. Please put a link here when you get your shelf up so I can link to it in this thread and the spreadsheets.

You should also create a post in this thread to list books as you finish them.

No question is a dumb question, so ask anytime something isn't clear. :)

message 756: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Yes, Christine, more points for bigger books. Also, for buddy reads, reading BOMs, and making questions for BOM books. Here's the breakdown from a previous post:

Points
For reading books
Books between 100 and 160 pages (100 pages or 25,000 words is the minimum) = 10 points
Books between 161 pages and 450 pages = 20 points
Books between 451 and 600 pages = 50 points
Books between 601 and 750 pages = 70 points
Books between 751 and 900 pages = 90 points
Books over 901 pages = 100 points

For BOM (Book of the Month) discussions
Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
Participating in a BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points
NOTE: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. If, by three days prior to the BOM starting, we don't have enough volunteers to write all DQs, then we will let more than one team member per team write questions. If we have more people than days sign up (prior to 3 days before start date) we will randomise the volunteers to determine those who can write DQs

For NBRC Buddy Reads
Participating in a buddy read with a member from a different team, or with a member of NBRC who isn't on a Tower Team = 30 points

I made a shelf called "team challenge" and I will be starting to add books from now on! :D

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 758: by [deleted user] (new)

I feel so bad for pestering with so many questions, but this challenge goes all throughout next year?

message 759: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Okiley dokiley ladies,

I've updated the official spreadsheet. The numbers are a bit inflated until we get the correct shelves entered for Christine and Kate. But in the meantime, I've updated per your entries in the BOOKS READ thread.

You all are reading machines. Let's keep it going!

message 760: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I've updated your shelf Christine - thanks! Don't forget that you can add any of your read books that you finished on or after November 9th to that shelf, and they'll count toward our point total. Make sure any book you read that's 100 pages or more gets added there. Let me know if you have questions about it.

As for the duration of the challenge, it's up in the air. The first team that gets to 20,000 points will end the challenge. It should last at least through the first few months of 2015.

message 761: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments One other thing - manga/graphic novels won't count. I noticed them on your shelves so I'm preempting the question. :)

message 762: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Jenn ~ Nemirdis wrote: "I have several books I'm almost finished with. I'm going on vacation for a few days, so I'm hoping to finish a bunch.

Poetry books don't count, correct?"

Jenn, poetry books are treated the same as children's books. They have to have 25,000 words or more. If you let me know which books you're reading, I can check them for you.

message 763: by [deleted user] (new)

I figured manga didn't count but thanks for telling me anyways. :)

message 764: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Logan, the poetry book I'm reading is Wilderness by Jim Morrison.

Cee | 39 comments Welcome to the group, Christine and Kate! ^^

Welcome all new peoples! So glad to have more team members :)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments Hello everyone! Yay I'm so excited probably because this is my first team challenge and I've just joined the group! Anyway, I'll go ahead and add a shelf for this now. :)

//EDIT:
Okay here's the shelf I've created for the challenge
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 768: by Kate (new)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments I have a question about buddy reads. So, will my 30 points still count if I do a buddy read with other people besides team members even though there is another team member present in the buddy read discussion?

message 769: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Yep, that's right. As long as there's one person from another team, you're golden.

message 770: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (bookboss) Just finished The Midwife's Confession, which was a buddy read and also has green on the cover for one of our challenges :)

message 771: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to be updating my bookshelf as well as start a book today! Hopefully I'll be able to catch up :P

message 772: by [deleted user] (new)

Thought I'd just pop in and say hey. Anybody doing the HP team challenge on Million More Pages group?

message 773: by Cee (new)

Cee | 39 comments Taryn wrote: "Thought I'd just pop in and say hey. Anybody doing the HP team challenge on Million More Pages group?"

I don't know that one. What is it? :D

Sounds great! We all read different amounts anyway, so no worries

message 775: by [deleted user] (new)

That's good to know! I always feel like such a slow reader!

Kristin wrote: "Taryn wrote: "Thought I'd just pop in and say hey. Anybody doing the HP team challenge on Million More Pages group?"

I thought about it but not got around to signing up for it. Can you still sign up?"

I think so....not quite sure. I'm doing some buddy reads for this challenge that are also buddy reads for that challenge, so I thought I'd ask so I could help us get double the points LOL (Gryffindors rule!) (Elves of Deep Shadow rule!)

message 777: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I'm still working on my Counterpoint buddy read - I bet Stacie is tired of me - I'm trying to catch up :) I'm at 75% and it's getting really good .....no now I'm worried
I just started another buddy read today of Dark Horse - really good so far - easy read

message 778: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I finished up Counterpoint (Song of the Fallen, #1) by Rachel Haimowitz last night - ACK I hate cliffhangers - esp when I don't have the next book readily avail - :(

message 779: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ @Kristin - Mockingjay (view spoiler)

Well for Counterpoint the next book is out - I just have no time to read this month and I don't have it. Will definitely be getting to it next month but I need to ask someone whose read it - if it is complete with the next book or am I going to be waiting for book #3?

message 780: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Glad it wasn't just me ::

I have to admit - I'm terrible at reading YA. I have not read Divergent series. My son did and was eagerly anticipating book 3 - read in like 2 days I think and then was upset. Didn't make me want to read but I will more than likely want to see the movies - we loved Divergent.

message 781: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm actually going to go see Mockingjay this weekend!

I have to say I think my daughter really liked it for the MC male - 'he's hot Mom and has great pecs' - this from my then 12 yo LOL Hubby gets squeeked out when she makes comments like this

I definitely will! It looks great

message 785: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Melissa - I've been seeing Counterpoint around a bit lately. Aside from the cliffhanger (yuck!), was it any good?

Kristin - That's the HP boxed set that I just bought. I love just looking at it.

I am hoping to see Mockingjay soon. I haven't had time to go to the movies lately, but I am doing a 50 book / 50 movie challenge for my library and need to squeeze in 2 more movies before the end of the year.

message 786: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Yes I liked it a lot. Just realize it has a lot of politics from the time in it sort of a historical fantasy type book. Supposed to be done in 2 books. It reminds me of Captive Prince: Volume One
It is an mm book that doesn't have a lot of sex in it.

message 787: by Christine (new)

Christine | 0 comments Hi Team! I just finished Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch for the mini-challenge, and I just started The Rosie Project Buddy Read. Hope you're all enjoying your books!

My friends have been rating it 4ish stars. I'm not much of a politics person though, so maybe not for me.

Depends upon how much you like battle type books - never read but Lord of the Rings comes to mind. Probably very little romance but lots of story. If you want a book with heat - this is not for you :)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments Hello all! I've just finished Wintergirls with a buddy read.

Can't really relate to the main character but I liked the writing style and theme of the story :)

message 791: by Cee (new)

Cee | 39 comments I'm sloooowly working my way through Dreamcatcher, which is a huge book. After that I'll read another part of the chimney :D

message 792: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Finished another buddy read - didn't love it - found it to be slow and rather frustrating. Dark Horse

message 793: by Kate (new)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments A Monster Calls was such a quick read. It is another way on how to deal with grief and loss but really such a lovely book!

message 794: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ Finished up All Fired Up (Sin City Uniforms #1) by Morticia Knight totally hot book that I needed after my last two slow build books. Works for a Red Cover if we still need

Started buddy reads for The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty and The Darkest Touch (Lords of the Underworld, #11) by Gena Showalter this one is worth 100 pts - yippee - really hoping its good!!

Reading Lothaire (Immortals After Dark, #12) by Kresley Cole for another challenge

message 795: by Kate (new)

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments Just finished an ARC which is The Minnow. There has been a lot of good reviews about this book but really left me bored. Will be starting As Dead As It Gets (Bad Girls Don't Die, #3) by Katie Alender in a few. :)
