I had to crop mine first. Don't know if that will help because her face is kind of in the corner. She's pretty cool looking though!

It's not necessary. If you're fine tracking them on your own or on the spreadsheet, that works too. If you'd like me to add it to our group list to help you remember and track them, I'm happy to add them to our list. Whichever is easiest for you is fine with me.

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Any buddy read already started will count as long as there was someone from another team interacting with you, and the book is finished after the official start time.

Also, if you finish a book after the official start time, but join a later discussion on that book, you can still count those buddy read points. In other words, there is no penalty for reading ahead. So if the timing of a buddy read doesn't work, you can finish the book tomorrow and then join in the discussion in December or January or whenever.

Oh I didn't realize this last part. That's good to know, especially for series reads!

Kristie | 3595 comments We've started! We've started!! :D

Did you guys notice that some other teams started a thread for "READ BOOKS"? Do we have that somewhere or are we just posting here?

Yes each team has one. I posted my first book read there and was coming here to post too. Look for our team name over there :)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments All teams have a READ BOOKS thread. It was requested on the captains group to keep it easier on captains to check,

Since I was on elemental mentor duties, I have the link on hand :)

Elves of Deep Shadow READ BOOKS

~Melissa~ Finished up A Little Bite of Magic - this was a cute short mm book that I read for my Scavenger Hunt challenge. One of the MC is engaged to the most annoying woman. She has him sweater match her when they go out with other couples that do the same thing. Gag.

Edit - book has 110 pgs

message 459: by [deleted user] (new)

So when we get done with a book here are the things we should do?

A. Team Spreadsheet (Individual Page)
B. READ BOOKS thread
C. Put on Tower Teams Shelf
D. This thread to brag and celebrate

Does that seem right?

message 460: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks Melissa & Sonia! I didn't have a chance to nose around this morning and that thread didn't show up on my notifications this morning. I never seem to get all of my notifications.

No worries - it happened to pop up on my home page when after I marked a book as finished - otherwise I would have missed it.

I'm not sure - did we have accessibility to Logan's spreadsheet? If we do I missed that. Your to do list for books looks just right. Off to see if I can put my book on the spreadsheet.

Well... I'm working on links today - yes, no reading, my co-captain is going to kill me, well, maybe not *kill* me because he loves me, but you get the drill.

I'm sure you'll make up the reading :)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Maybe, maybe not.

I could be listening some audiobook. But, I haven't recovered totally from my migraines, which means, not focus on listening or else...

message 467: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I should be able to finish one or 2 books today...Im probably 80% through I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and 50% through the Namesake. i need to look to see if there is an old buddy read on either one

message 468: by [deleted user] (new)

I am about 20 pages away from finishing Lies of Locke Lamora! So give me like ten minutes lol Btw, this book is awesome. Easy to read, still a good story.

Cool, that will let me test the new app Kelly did for the spreadsheet.

It is still giving me a stupid mistake but, is updating books... weird.

message 470: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok! I'm done....now what do you mean....the spreadsheet? I'm about to go check it out now.

message 471: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Taryn wrote: "Ok! I'm done....now what do you mean....the spreadsheet? I'm about to go check it out now."

Is other spreadsheet. To avoid the stress of sunday updates, Kelly has been working on getting the data from the goodreads database - they have a API to do that.

Is still very new, so, I'm doing a Darkness Test. :D

message 472: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, so I added my book to my individual page on the spreadsheet. Everything turned out ok...I think maybe where it says total # of books at the top though it is putting the date instead, which might just be an issue of function. It doesn't update any other pages, but I don't know if that is intentional or not.

Yay!!! We already have two books up you guys!

~Melissa~ I have to read for at least 20 min a day or I'm cranky - even DH knows to leave me alone for 15-20 min if I have book open

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I get very little reading done on weekends too. It's almost all from my commute. Living in Lincoln Square and working in the Loop has its advantages. :)

I cannot explain how much I hate the book Gargantua and Pantagruel. I am just hoping I can finish it as quickly as possible so that I never have to pick it up again. I get all the references and that it's important in the creation of the novel...but it is soooooooooo boring. Please just let this end!! The only reason I don't just stop it is because A) I'm ADD and I hate not finishing books B) I need this book for a lot of my reading challenges- including this one. Ugh just end.

~Melissa~ (~Cainis~ the Elf) wrote: "Good luck, Taryn. Yikes over 1000 pgs that's bad when it's boring. Sorry"

I know right! Honestly my version is more around 700 pages with really fine print. So I'll be doing the honest thing and only taking the 700 page points ;) Still.....too long for so many codpiece and monk jokes.

message 492: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ I have a dumb question - I finished a book but it is a BR book and we aren't done with the BR part. Should I wait to put it on my read shelf until we are done with the BR? I couldn't put it done and had free time today but we as a group are going to continue to discuss as the others catch up to me......

Hopefully my question makes sense

We have noticed the huge page difference between the several editions for The Lies of Locke Lamora.

The word count is 192,918 so dividing by 250 words per page gives us 771 pages.

Therefore, for Tower Team purposes, we're going to state that the official ruling of this book is 90 points.

When marking your books as read, please choose an edition that has between 751 and 900 pages.

message 494: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Melissa, you can mark it read today. You can get BR points anytime, even if the discussion happens after you read the book. You can go back and claim the BR points when the discussion is done.

message 495: by [deleted user] (new)

So.....I am going to do the Gargantua and Pantagruel thing Mod-style because every edition is wayyyy different in page count. The word count, though, is 320,438 words for my edition. Do you think it's wrong if I take the 100 points for the book?

I don't really mind either way. I will just be jumping for joy when it's finished.

Ok just wasn't sure if I should mark it read already or not. BR part should be do e by Wed of this week more than likely. Deb is halfway done and Ezi started it today. I'll add to our spreadsheet when it is all done.

I gave it 2 stars because I felt bad just giving it one. I mean, it's a classic for a reason, right? It's taking longer to update my challenges than I realized lol

Sometimes I wonder but, hey could just be me. I've had a few recommended to me that when I got to them I thought 'what was all the fuss' :)
