Lisarenee | 2046 comments So today I went out and bought some Angry Orchard Hard Cider because it was mentioned in Burn Me. Has a book ever inspired you to try a new food or beverage, go somewhere, or try an activity you've never tried before?

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) Hmm, I'm thinking over some of the books I've read and I don't think any of them have. Unless we're talking about a recipe book. *laughs* I used to have a weird addiction to them.

As for trying new foods, activity, etc. nothing comes to mind.

So how was the Angry Orchard Hard Cider? :)

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments From Lauren Dane's "Chase Brother's" series I tried making smothered porkchops....very, very tasty

And have not tried any the recipe's yet, but this story had the recipes for many of the dishes mentioned in the book Beauty and the Feast by Julia Barrett (which was free on amazon the other day) I have a few of the recipes marked to try

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments When reading Deacon I found myself looking up the songs that played an important part. There are a few cozy mysteries that I read for the recipes, the Hannah Swenson series especially, where I have tried the recipes. But I've never bought anything.

I love hard cider. Did you try the apple or the pear?

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I forget what series the book was but it had a playlist attached to it and I found myself on youtube finding the different songs. It was fun because some I knew and forgotten and others I had never heard.

So I popped the ciders (I got two bottles--my local Publix supermarket sells them by the bottle) into the fridge last night and kind of forgot about them until now. I got Cinnful Apple and Crisp Apple. I just popped the top off the Cinnful one and it's not bad. I think I like regular cider better though. They also have a green apple, but that one my grocery store didn't sell, but they sell it in a six or eight pack of bottles at my local Target store. I may be tempted to pick one up. I didn't realize they sell a pear beverage as well. I may have to look into that too.

Beth Chilton (beth_chilton) | 10 comments A character in a book once had macademia nut pancakes with coconut syrup. I just had to try making some, and they were absolutely delicious.

If there is unfamiliar music referenced in books I sometimes look it up on youtube.

lol I haven't read the last 3. There are some really yummy recipes in those books.

I have 3 that are staples in my house, the molasses, the double flake (I add mini chocolate chips to it), and the black and white ones.

In fact all 3 will be part of my holiday baking.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments Which books do they come from and can I read the books out of order?

message 16: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments At Fluke's website she lists all the recipes and what books they are in.

http://www.joannefluke.com/recipes/

The books are cozy mystery's. With these ones I think the order won't matter a whole lot. There is a larger story arc with Hannah, but it is between 2 guys and over 10 books in she still hasn't made a choice. There is some development with the secondary characters, but unless you are obsessive about reading in order you should be ok.

I've probably tried another 10 or so recipes, and while they were good, not enough for a repeat.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments No problem!

I would say if you try the books, go the library route, then you can copy out the recipes that interest you.

message 19: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I tried peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich that was in First Grave on the Right. Meh.

I've ate licorice pipes while reading book #4 of the Still Life series.

message 20: by Kristy (new)

Kristy Johnson | 2 comments I tried Grey Goose because that's what Vishous from the Black Dagger Brotherhood drinks.

Christina | 35 comments I started drinking Conundrum wine mentioned in the Karen MacInerney Tales of an Urban Werewolf series.
Howling at the Moon (Tales of an Urban Werewolf, #1) by Karen MacInerney

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 39 comments I started listening to Rob Zombie because of MaryJanice Davidson

message 23: by ladymurmur (new)

ladymurmur | 146 comments Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, because of Spider Robinson. And it truly was that delicious. :-)

message 24: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) I tried sweetening my coffee with honey because of this bear shifter book. Bear's Gold Bear's Gold (Erotic Shifter Fairy Tales, #1) by Yvette Hines
I've tried other food, drinks or recipes from books. Other than that I don't recall.

message 25: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. In Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #1) by Louise Penny , the inspector eats licorice pipes, so I ordered some and when they ate them at the next book, I ate them too.

I've read about recipes for drinks and food that sounded good, sometimes trying them.
