SOLVED. (and quickly!) YA Book on Dog Sledding in Alaska. [s]

Hi, I'm searching for a YA fiction book about a teenage boy from somewhere in the lower 48 states who goes to spend a year (I believe) in Alaska with relatives and during his stay he learns to care and race sled dogs. I believe the book came out in the late 50s to maybe the late 60s. I checked it out of my middle school library several times as a kid. This is about all I remember but I'll try to add more as I'm able, Thank you, Eric
