Beth | 616 comments I miss Kathy Brandt's underwater forensic diver mystery series. They weren't cozies, but with their Virgin Islands setting and environmental themes, they were very interesting reads.

I miss this series too. I kept her website on my list forever waiting for news of the next release.

Caroline | 661 comments I also liked Sarah Andrews' Em Hansen, geologist, series. She's written another book but it's not Em Hansen. And, yes, Beth, Kathy Brandt's underwater forensic series was a lot of fun too! Another series I enjoyed (but it's over) is Alina Adams series about Bex Levy who was a writer about figure skating. I love figure skating so really enjoyed those books (only 5 in the series).

message 104: by John (new)

John Just wanted to mention, though it isn't the newest "news", that Selma Eichler's series featuring NYC P. I. Desiree Shapiro is finished.

I'd given up on Magdalena Yoder a few books back, but was sorry to read about Miss Zukas - here's hoping there'll be a final one though! I liked Callahan Garrity, especially the cleaners Baby and Sister.

message 105: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments Pooh! I really liked the Miss Zukas series. So calm and level header and a librarian to boot!

message 106: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments I was sad to read the last Brady Coyne novel as author William G. Tapply passed away last year and this was his last completed novel. I enjoyed both his series and Philip R. Craig's J.W. Jackson series as well as those novels they co-wrote with both of their protags together. Both have now passed away so there will be no more of these great books but I enjoyed every last one of them and heartily recommend them all!

message 107: by Robin (new)

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Tamar Myers also does another series I think to do with Antiquities. Magdalena Yoder was a hoot to read , and I did read part of Butter Safe than Sorry.

Kate (kate28) | 141 comments Does anyone know if kathryn lilleys fat city mysteries are finished? Im reading my first and really enjoying it but i see that the most recent book came out in 2009 and theres no new info on the authors website.

Kate (kate28) | 141 comments Anyone?

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Kate wrote: "Anyone?"

It's probably done if the last one came out in '09. I read the first one or 2 in this series and didn't like it much, so can't say for sure.

message 111: by Liz (new)

Liz | 42 comments Although she's not really a cozy writer, I just found out that Ariana Franklin, who wrote the "Mistress of the Art of Death" series, passed away in January.

Sorry, Kate. Never read any books by that author so I don't know.

message 113: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (deborahkliegl) I miss the Southern Sisters series. Also miss Inspector Morse.

message 114: by Doug (new)

Doug Beatty | 10 comments The Sunflower Plot

The John Sherwood books were great. I even forget the name of the protagonist but she was a landscaper in England... the author was really up in years I seem to remember and then, they just stopped coming out.

message 115: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Noel (1972booklover) I actually just got the first John Sherwood book of Celia Grant. It's next on my list to read. Can't wait!

Vivian Williams (a_moonlit_rose) | 12 comments Kate wrote: "Anyone?"

I read all three of her Fat City Mystery series and love them! I'm not sure what's going on with that series. I may just have to drop her a line and ask!

Hope you enjoy!

Vivian Williams (a_moonlit_rose) | 12 comments Kate wrote: "Anyone?"

I asked Kathlyn Lilly on FACEBOOK if she was planning on writing any more in this series.. and she left a comment that she was but it would be on ebook form! :)

message 118: by Barbara (new)

Barbara DaCosta | 3 comments I miss M.D. Lake's Peggy O'Neill series, such as DEATH CALLS THE TUNE. A campus cop series set in fictitious midwestern university. Done with wit, skewers of academia, laced with good plot.

Bobbi Mumm | 21 comments Betty wrote: "Lyn Hamilton's Lara McClintoch series (fortunately I have the whole series)."

Oh, I love her books. What a loss to the world when that author passed away. I've read about four of the series and want to find the others. My favorite was the one about the Phoenicians. I'll have to look it up because I can't recall the name.

message 120: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi Mumm | 21 comments I loved the Eugenia Potter series, started by author Virginia Rich and finished by Nancy Picard. Fabulous!

Caroline | 661 comments Not a cozy but ... I will truly miss the Spenser series by Robert B. Parker - I've loved Spenser forever. Although I just heard from Melodie that another author will supposedly be continuing the series. Hmmm. Not sure about that but I'll still check it out.

Robert B. Parker has been one of my favorite authors for years & My son loves his Spenser books. I suppose since he picked up & continued with the Raymond Chandler series, it would only be fair for someone to pick up his, but I just don't know. Somewhere I think I heard a mention that his wife was involved in writing his books & might carry on with them. I know that Dick Francis did his last few with his son & I'm kinda hoping he carries on with them.

But, Parker was uniquely qualified to write the Chandler series. Not only was he a gifted writer, but also:
"In 1957, he earned his Master's degree in English literature from Boston University and then worked in advertising and technical writing until 1962.[11] Parker received a PhD in English literature from Boston University in 1971.[14] His dissertation, titled "The Violent Hero, Wilderness Heritage and Urban Reality," discussed the exploits of fictional private-eye heroes created by Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, and Ross Macdonald"

message 126: by Robin (new)

Robin Allen I really enjoyed the first two books in the General Jack Hospital series by Jo Bailey--Recycled: A General Jack Hospital Mystery and Bagged--about a hospital security guard. The third book, Erased: A General Jack Hospital Mystery, was so different and strange, I couldn't finish it. Perhaps that's why they didn't continue the series. Too bad. This gal can tell a story, and she can write.

I really liked all of Charlaine Harris different series too, especially the Aurora Teagarden ones. It would be nice if she would occassionally go back & visit these old friends.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) oo oo... For all fans of the Mad Bean Series by Jerrilyn Farmer - she just posted this on her Facebook page:

That's good to know! I hoped she wasn't going to do another of those atrocious books with Joan Rivers!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I couldn't even bring myself to order that one - it just looked awful!

Kate (kate28) | 141 comments Does anyone know if Cynthia Baxter's Jessica Popper (vet) series is continuing? I love those books! The latest, Crossing the Lion (Reigning Cats & Dogs Mystery, #9) by Cynthia Baxter , was great but I can't find any info on a new book coming out.

message 133: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyjcohen) | 53 comments Fortunately with digital publishing and small press, the end of a series doesn't have to be the end. Five Star picked up my tenth Bad Hair Day mystery after Kensington cancelled the series. A writer could, if she found no other traditional publisher, self-publish a work in digital format today, if she wanted to conclude her series for fans.

No, Tamar Myers is still alive and kicking. I believe she has stopped writing the Pennsylvania Dutch & antiques series and is just writing a new series that takes place in Africa.

message 140: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 44 comments From a blurb I read,Tamara's books were discontinued because the publishers din't feel they were finanically viable. As for Tamara herself, I think she's fine.

message 141: by Barb (new)

Barb I think I read somewhere that the same thing happened to Jill Churchill?

Have they stopped publishing both of Tamar Myers older series? I've heard good things about her new African series, but I haven't yet read any of them myself.

message 142: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 44 comments Boy, if she has a new series, I'd like to read it.And yes, I do believe Abby and Magadela are gone.

message 143: by Barb (new)

Barb I just looked at her page on GR. Her new series is the Amanda Brown series, and the first book is The Witch Doctor's Wife. Her bio is quite interesting, I learned a lot about her! Tamar Myers

message 144: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read both of Tamar Myers Africa books - excellent books! She grew up as a missionary's child in head hunting country. I think she prefers writing these Africa books. I interviewed her for the Sisters in Crime blog a year or so ago and she said for her two cozy series all she needed was the title before they signed another contract. (She's VERY funny in person.)

thanks for the information. Glad she is fine, sorry she won't be writing for earlier series. I'll have to try her new African series.

I have to say I gave up on the Pennsylvania Dutch series a while ago, but kind of liked Abby Timberlake. Jill Churchill's series was one of the first cozy series I ever read, but that one jumped the shark eventually.

I really like Jo Dereske's series about librarian Helma Zukas, so have been putting off reading the final book.

message 147: by Barb (new)

Barb John wrote: "Jill Churchill's series was one of the first cozy series I ever read, but that one jumped the shark eventually."

I'll admit it -- I had to look up "jump the shark." I'd never heard that phrase before :)

It's been so long since I read any of Churchill's books, I don't remember whether they started to deteriorate or not. I know a lot of readers preferred her Jane Jeffrey series to the Grace & Favor series, but I liked them both!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I'm a fan of both Jill Churchill series, but Jane Jeffrey was my favorite and I still re-read the books on occasion. The last 2-3 were very thin on plot but continued on with character development, and by the last book, she was able to wrap up the series nicely, so I didn't mind so much.

I'm disappointed that the Grace and Favor series didn't get a chance to be treated so well.

message 149: by Barb (new)

Barb I may have to go back and read the last of the Jane Jeffrey books. I don't remember things being 'wrapped up' by the end of the book! LOL

The Accidental Florist is the one I'm referring to that sort of wraps the series up. In fact, you've got me pulling it off the shelf for a re-read myself! :)
