Kate: Yes, Cynthia Baxter's "Travel Packs a Suitcase Mallory Marlowe series is dead after just two books. I wrote to Cynthia back in August '09 and she wrote back. Included in her email was the following:

"Anyway, I'm really pleased that you've enjoyed the first two books in the series. Unfortunately, at this point my publisher is holding off on publishing any more. I think this bad economy is making it hard for anyone to move forward with anything. Too bad, since I had lots of good ideas for future books! And I enjoyed writing about Mallory, who's really different from my vet character."

Shannon: When you say that Tamar Myers has a new series out are you talking about something other than her "Den of Antiquity" series with Abigail Timberlake as the protagonist? Do you know what the new series is about and when the first book will be out???

Shannon..."

Yes I am speaking about her new series that starts with The Witch Doctor's Wife. Here is a description from the site:

From beloved mystery writer Tamar Myers comes an enthralling tale of duty, greed, danger, and miracles in equatorial Africa.

The Congo beckons to young Amanda Brown in 1958, as she follows her missionary calling to the mysterious "dark continent" far from her South Carolina home. But her enthusiasm cannot cushion her from the shock of a very foreign culture--where competing missionaries are as plentiful as flies, and oppressive European overlords are busy stripping the land of its most valuable resource: diamonds.

Little by little, Amanda is drawn into the lives of the villagers in tiny Belle Vue--and she is touched by the plight of the local witch doctor, a man known as Their Death, who has been forced to take a second job as a yardman to support his two wives. But when First Wife stumbles upon an impossibly enormous uncut gem, events are set in motion that threaten to devastate the lives of these people Amanda has come to admire and love--events that could lead to nothing less than murder. It is available now for sure online not sure about where else though.

Caroline | 661 comments I was sorry to hear about Laurien Berenson's series. I knew Lyn Hamilton had passed (she's being honored as "Malice Remembers" in 2011 at Malice Domestic). I'm also sorry to learn that there are to be no more Craft Corners books by our own Mary Ellen and no more Teddy Bear mysteries by John J. Lamb. The Gillian Roberts Amanda Pepper series is done (Per Gillian herself). and another series I was so sad to lose was Sinclair Browning's Trade Ellis series. That was one of my favcrites.

Jan (libraryhag) | 82 comments I am so sad that Anne George passed away. I love her Southern Sisters series. I have not been able to bring myself to read the last book, Murder Boogies with Elvis because I can't stand for it to end. How silly is that??

I really enjoyed the Yellow Rose series also. I've read the first in Leann Sweeney's new series and it was very good. Looking forward to the 2nd. I miss the Phillip R. Craig mysteries set on Martha's Vineyard. They were enjoyable.

message 58: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliawebb) I also enjoyed Barbara Burnett Smith's Purple Sage Mysteries set in "Purple Sage" Texas. Sadly only five in the series.

message 59: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I miss the Yellow Rose series too!

I thought of a few series that I miss:

Jerrilyn Farmer's Madeline Bean Catering Mysteries
Jennifer Apodaca's Samantha Shaw's Mysteries
Deborah Donnelly's Carnegie Kincaid Mysteries
Lori Avocato's Pauline Sokoll Mysteries

Sympathy for the Devil (Madeline Bean Mystery, Book 1) by Jerrilyn Farmer Dating Can Be Murder (Samantha Shaw Mystery, Book 1) by Jennifer Apodaca Veiled Threats (Carnegie Kincaid, #1) by Deborah Donnelly A Dose of Murder (Pauline Sokol, #1) by Lori Avocato

I also miss the Madeline Bean & Carnegie Kincaid series. The most recent thing Jerrilyn Farmer has written was that thing with Joan Rivers which I would never pick up because Joan Rivers gives me the "creepy-crawlies"!

message 61: by Mary (new)

Mary Kennedy | 27 comments I loved the Pauline Sokol series by Lori Avocato. Such a clever idea, the heroine was a forensic "nurse-investigator." Lori is just as witty and charming in real life as her heroine, btw. A delightful person and a great author

message 62: by Leslie (new)

Leslie That is too funny Melodie. I had no idea she'd even done that book with Joan Rivers until I was searching to see when her last book was out. I thought the same thing...no way I'm reading that one!

message 63: by Shay (new)

Shay | 408 comments I read the book Jerrilyn Farmer did with Joan Rivers. To be honest, I think that she did all of the writing. It just seemed to be in her style. I think Joan Rivers just provided a more famous name. (And, of course, the character is based on Joan. Not as annoying, though.)

Nairabell | 97 comments The Candy Shop series by Sammi Carter has finished! I just checked her blog to see if there'd be another, but there won't due to the publisher :( The author is writing a new series though.

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 44 comments Is Tamara Myers still writing her series with Abbie Timberlake, the antique dealer in Charlotte NC? I'll miss Magdalena, but Abby with all her pretensions, is still giving me chuckles as an ex-southerner.

Betsy: I wrote to Tamar and she responded saying there will be one more Den of Antiquity book. Here is what she says:

"There is one final book that will be released this fall: The Glass Is Always Greener. After that I will be concentrating on my new African series: The Witchdoctor's Wife (published last Oct)."

I agree, Misty, and Charlaine says she doesn't have time to write anymore of the Aurora Teagarden series. I loved Aurora and I really liked Lily. I guess because vampire stuff is so popular she feels that her vampire series is the moneymaker.

Misty Well, to be fair, I have to admit that I absolutely adore the Sookie Stackhouse series! I just got book 10 from the library today, and it's sad how psyched up I am to start it! LOL. Oh well, maybe when Sookie is finished she'll return to the others.

I miss all those too and Laura Durham's series as well! Alina Adams' series about Bex Levy and figure skating was good. Sorry to see that end. And Donna Ball was supposed to have one more book about a woman and her search dog but I've never seen it so that may have died.

I liked Laura Durham's wedding planner series, too, but thought Deb Donnelly's was better. I would have really liked another Donna Ball book. I really enjoyed that series.

My DH gets a kick out of Andy. I really like Jessica, even if she's not in the books! She's funny, but she'll break your heart, too.

Susan Albert | 45 comments Susan Wittig Albert Just to let you know, I'm about to start the last book in the Cottage Tales series, which started with The Tale of Hill Top Farm. There will be eight books all together: the last one is called The Tale of Castle Cottage. These are books about Beatrix Potter--and yes, there are talking animals!

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

That could also explain why, IMHO, the quality of the books has gone down.

message 88: by Carol (new)

Carol I agree the Lilian Jackson Braun books appear to have been ghost-written. The style is quite different and poorly written. It's unfortunate.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with you Sue T. and Carol. I just thought she may have been getting tired of the subject.

Melanie Jackson (melaniejaxn) | 55 comments I'll miss Harris' Lily Bard mysteries. Actually, she seems to have stopped writing all series except the southern vampires-- which are neat-- but I'll miss the others.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) So I've just now received notification from Amazon that Jerrilyn Farmer's "Desperately Seeking Sushi" will never be available. (I pre-ordered this back in - 2007??)

In fairness, I'd given up on this series ages ago. I emailed the author twice but she never bothered to respond. But it's still a shame, it was one of my all time favorite series and it ended with loose ends, which I hate.

I noticed that Elaine Flinn's author page was incorrect, as it still listed her as living and working on her next book. As a Goodreads Librarian, I updated it for her fans. :)

Melanie, thanks for reminding me about this author. I read the first two ages ago, but then the series "slipped through the cracks" for me when I moved to Oz. I'm ordering the rest of the series right now and can't wait to read them. :)

I love Inspector Morse! I am fortunate enough to have just discovered the tv series, so I have many more seasons to go as well as the books to dive into. I can't believe it was only recently that I discovered him, he is now my favorite British Detective! I think I will have to drag the series out to make it last longer :)
