I think I'm going to need to do something with my Kobo though it scares the bejeezus out of me. Every time I plug it into a computer now the computer asks me if I want it to fix the harddrive. O_O

Scary indeed. I had that either with my Sony or my first Kindle. Eventually I gave in and let it repair, though with the Kobo I would try to do a full reset.

Great spooky story. It doesn't happen too often that I put a book down early at night because I get creeped out. This book did that, twice.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments Spider Light by Sarah Rayne.

The Death Cure by James Dashner.

I've added several series to my "active series" list lately and currently have 10 of those, which is too much. Luckily there are several series which are either short or that I've nearly finished. For the rest of the year I'll be trying to concentrate on those and get some series finished.

For my 100th book of the year I've chosen to read The Martian (better late than never). I wasn't sure I would like it, since I'm not really into sci-fi, but I'm loving it so far (41% in).

I'm so scared to do it.

Better late than never. It's not only my 100th book of the year, but it's also the best book I've read so far this year.

Congratulations on reaching your 100th read of the year!!! :)

The Martian is the Book of the Year for me as well! I absolutely loved it!. Hubby and I plan to see the movie tomorrow.

Thank you!

I definitely want to see the movie, but I'll save it until my vacation in January; my sister is coming and she doesn't like horror, I'm not that much into historical drama and I think this will be a film she'll also like.

The Martian is one of my faves. THe other was The Rook. SO GOOD

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I probably should read The Martian at some point. If the bookclub would vote for things like that I would have read it, instead the vote for 800 page weirdo things. Not that I don't like weirdo things, but 800 pages is a lot to invest in.

Nyssa | 1569 comments Unfortunately, we never made it to the movies. Hubby isn't feeling well. Not sure if its a cold or mild flu.

I got sick during the holiday, too. No more than 24 hours but ugh. Sucks.

The Rook was another favourite for me this year. Last weel I read that the sequal is going to be released in about 6 months. I also read that The Rook is going to be made into either a tv series or a movie.

Another vote for The Rook. :) Its being a tv series would be AWESOME!!!

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments The Bone Yard by Jefferson.

With only a month to go it's time to start thinking about which books to read for my challenge in January. I've already chosen "horror" as theme (since I'm going on vacation and for some reason I like to read horrors when on vacation).

Really???! WOW. I am a total wuss and would totally want to watch it and then punk out. Cause SCARY! but hubby will watch it, no doubt. Especially if I talk him into reading the book.

A lot of running and fighting and not enough explaining IMHO.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments This House is Haunted by John Boyne.
Meh. I liked the last part of this book, but it took too long to get going for me.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments Dream Paris by Tony Ballantyne.
Better than the first book in this series. I liked the main character better (although she featured in the first book she didn't have a big part in that) and you have a small grasp of the rules of the Dream World.

Another series finished/up to date. I have two more series where there's only one book left to read. I hope to finish those this month, though I might save one of them for my January reading challenge (horror).

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments Where the Dead Walk by John Bowen.
Unexpectedly good.

I'm wondering if I can read more than 3000 pages this month. It's the busiest time of the year in the shop, but this year we got 4 consecutive days of with Christmas (the shop's also closed on Monday). Which means that I have a lot of reading time.

At the very least I want to have read 40000 pages this year, which means I have to read just under 1000 pages in the next two weeks. Which should be doable.

message 174: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments 40,000? Gasp. Happy to have made 20,000 again. I just don't have the time to average 3,000+ pages a month. I can do 2,000 when I really work at it and I've managed 3,000 a few times over the last few years, but it's just a stretch for me. Unless I have a lot of time off it just doesn't happen.

message 175: by Bianca (new)

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments In 2013 and 2014 I read almost 44000 pages, but in 2012 I read just over 37000. However, 2013 and 2014 were special years; first the fire and then the Family Thing and in those years I used reading as an escape. I see 2012 as a normal year when it comes to reading.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments The Fire by Katherine Neville.
An okay sequel to the first book of The Eight duology.

Murder in Whitechapel by Aiden James.
Interesting premise; Judas Iscariot in 1888, looking for Jack the Ripper. It was a disappointment. Mainly because the Judas character isn't consistent in his behaviour, thoughts and beliefs.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments The Dead Girls' Dance by Rachel Caine.
Okay, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I wouldn't have read it during the busiest and most chaotic days of the year.

message 178: by Bianca (new)

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1749 comments Madonna and Corpse by Jefferson Bass.
Short story that doesn't feature any of the main characters of the series. I think it's an introduction to a character in the next book.

Normally I would have been able to finish the book I'm currently reading before the end of the year, but it's extremely busy in the store which leaves me with only a little reading time before I go to sleep and I don't want to hurry my current book, just to get it finished. So 113 books were read this year and I did manage to read more than 40000 pages.
