I haven't read Frankenstein series yet but I did do the whole Odd series. The Moonlight Bay discussion got me intrigued. Chris Snow is the main character. Fear Nothing is first. Seize the Night is second. Their is supposed to be a third but it hasn't happened yet. Chris came before Odd. You will love the. I'm into the second one. Hard to put down!

I guess I live in the moment. I'm really enjoying Chris. I believe as much as Odd. Possibly more.

One Door Away From Heaven is our August Group Read (Hint, Hint) :-) I would recommend Life Expectancy, By the Light of the Moon, From the Corner of His Eye. It is looking like Intensity will be our September Group Read.

Too soon to tell. I really liked State of Wonder which was the first book I've read by Ann Patchett that is why I wanted to read more of her books :-)

yeah read it a long time ago a good read

This book is written by a British journalist. The writer presents the facts and analysis of two criminals, Fred and Rose. This isn't a novel. People interested in actually studying true crime would like this book. The reader gets a glimpse into British culture since that's where this takes place. The story spans decades. I enjoyed Fred and Rose. It's very interesting and disturbing.

Sounds Good. I might have to read that. I typically read fiction, but occasionally enjoy some interesting non-fiction. Disturbing appeals to me in a twisted way as well.
I am currently reading a book of bizarrely humorous short stories: Make Something Up: Stories You Can't Unread

Stephen King is a great writer, my favorites are Salem,s Lot, Storm of the Century, the Shining , Delores Claiborne and really too many to name. I always read that he and Koontz are somehow writing in the same style, story lines etc.like they are rivals. That is something I just don't understand. I am not able to compare his books and find them similar. Koontz has humor and a certain spirituality in his writing and usually good vs.evil theme. The evil is all the more evil because it is sometimes wrapped up in what appears to be good.
King is brilliant, but I like his older books the best--he is absolutely the King (no pun intended)of suspense leading to terror. But I have never really found humor or spirituality in his books..sometimes good and evil but I like good to always win---that's just me. I feel like King has become a bitter person and that is felt in his books for me. The last book I read was the 11/22/1963 --it was really great the first few time he did the time travels and such but after you figure out the ending, rather early in the book, I began to feel like he was being paid by the word...way too much repitition but the characters were good and believable. I struggled to finish that book and it will probably be my last. It really did feel self-indulgent.
Koontz on the other hand. is the best at character building, humor, suspense etc. I especially like when he throws little daggers at the government and criticizes society as it should be. BUT there have been some books where it seems like maybe his book is overdue with his publisher so he stirs the pot and throws out an ending that doesn't necessarily leave you satisfied. Even so it is well worth the ride.
Sorry for my babble...
All that being said I think my favorite besides (Lightning) is....A Big Little Life: Memoir of a Joyful Dog!

The only thing the same about Dean Koontz and Stephen King is the type of book they write. Suspense, thriller, horror. I feel Dean Koontz writes better endings. Stephen Kings endings are often disappointing because the story is so good. The ending doesn't hold up to the story. Dean Koontzs is able to write an ending that is as good as the book. I liked 11/22/63. I agree about the story lines, just good vs evil/spirituality. SK's books can get much more complicated than any of DK's books. The Stand and The Gunslinger Series are the two I am thinking of. They are not light reading. All authors eventually turn out that paid by the word book. That's how they make their living. Sometimes the creativity well runs dry even though contractually they are obligated to produce. All writers styles change over time since they are actually sharing a part of themselves. You may or may not like these changes. I don't think the writer himself has much control over this aspect. All of us have ups and downs in life. We don't put ourselves out their for the public to see. My favorite authors will never change even if I don't like the current style as much as past. I just wait for the future. I think both DK and SK are Kings of horror or perhaps Princes of Horror is a better term since they share it. Moonlight Bay vs The Gunslimgher series. 77 Shadow Street vs Pet Cemetery. SK has characters randomly popping up in all
Different books. You don't seen that in DK's books beyond a series. By doing this SK has many of his books intertwined in a real world fashion. That's my 2 cents.

Thank you Mary and Diane for your Stephen King thoughts. I love Stephen King. I had not read any of his books until I joined Goodreads in 2009 - well I guess I had listened to Pet Cemetary as an audiobook and a short story called Riding the Bullet. I have really grown to love his work.
I don't think Dean Koontz and Stephen King need to be compared or at least not to the point of saying one is better than the other. I enjoy both. They are both amazing in their own right. I appreciate their differences as I try to do with everyone. Everyone is so different and unique and it's amazing.

That is a very good book. I am not a fan of nonfiction but I thoroughly enjoyed that one. I had no idea who he was and the only reason I read that book was my neighbor gave me a bag of books and that was one of the last ones I read from that bag.

Likewise. I don't read much non-fiction, but occasionally I find a subject that is fascinating. Enjoying Angela's Ashes so far - the humor in the storytelling is really intriguing.

Nice :-) I actually haven't re-read them because they are such thick books. I keep hearing about people re-reading them multiple times. I just don't know if I'm ready for that kind of commitment.
