None of those look or sound familiar. Thank you though!

The books were maybe 12 pages long, soft paper cover, and about 5" wide by 10" or 11" tall, I think.

Regrettably though, it does not appear to be the series I am trying to remember. Though kudos for uncovering a gem I had forgotten from my childhood!
I was born in 1977. My aunt was a 4th grade teacher at a private school in Cambridge, MA. She loved books and began to foster my love of books at a very early age. She used to bring me new books every time she came to visit.
I have vivid memories of learning to read simple words and sentences from a series of very slim, soft/paper cover books. The covers were usually one solid color (blue, I think (or they may have varied in color?)) and the pictures inside were simple black line drawings (if I am remembering them correctly).
I believe they would be considered "early readers" or "phonics" style books. There was one about a bug (I remember a picture of the bug dancing on the lid of an opened tin can), there was one about a wig (Peg's wig? I think I recall a dog (pup?) wearing the wig). Each book would focus on similar vowel or consonant sounds.
I cannot for the life of me recall the author or title of the book series. I have two young nieces and would love very much to see if I could find these books again to share with them.
Does anyone have any insight? Like I said, I was born in 1977 so these books would have been in print in the early 80s. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
