Just got to about 60% in... The tempo is slow, but it somewhat reminds me of Kushiel's world, only with no sex... I like Gen, but he is definitely hiding something... I have some ideas and we will see(•‿•)

Bea, I completely agree with the more realistic approach to the characters development. I expected magic, but now I am thinking it will probably have more to do with a religious pantheon, luck and slide of hand...

I finished it yesterday and I don't have a lot to say except that it didn't unfold all it's potential (yet). But based on what Anni and Iain said, I'm looking forward to the next book, I definitely see potential!

(view spoiler)[I liked all the revelations about Gen working for the queen of Eddis. We already suspected something bigger here in this thread but I was not sure if Gen would end up working for a kingdom or just for himself and be more of a Locke Lamora type.

I was a bit sad that Pol died so suddenly (and offscreen).

Thanks for trusting us :) The first book was mostly set-up, I rated it only 3 stars as well. The sequels won't be exactly more action heavy, they are still rather slow, but very well written and character-focused

Books don't have to be action packed all the time imo, sometimes a more "quiet" book can be nice :)

I had always wondered while reading FL how Glokta's (preseries) recuperation after Gurkhul might've gone. The early chapters here have some of that flavour.
I kinda feel sorry for Attolia tho she is described as being so vicious...prolly bcuz of the insomnia...I dunno...she seems to be brooding on Eugenides far too much for her own good. I wish she had just been able to walk away after the end of book 1.

Hmm yea Bea this is the better book (much less journeying thru the weald and wandering thru the temple maze) but I feel like it was completely diluted for me from guessing the way of things bit too soon...author's style seems to be throwaway comments/statements that later "turned out be significant" and I feel she gave away the game bit too soon... in a series with only two female chars for one of them to be plotting an "arranged marriage" (Ch 7) for the Thief. No prizes for guessing, given title of Bk 3 😝 (hide spoiler)]

Have you read a summary of the previous books? Wikipedia has actually short plot overview of each vook, it's rather short, but at least helped me remember some of the names 😅

The book does a fair job of reminding us of the goings on... so far, the book hasn't been anything like I expected... I thought I read it had more to do with a character from the first book, and the nation that wants to invade...

The book hasn't been bad, tho, just unexpected...

It's quite similar to the last two books, with Gen and the others more or less as side characters, but I'm really happy that this thime they appear a lot :) I also really like Pheris, I looking forward for him to grow into his role even more!

And the relationship between Eddis and Gen and their conversations are great as ever:

"[...] You are Eddis. Go smack him." Eddis shook her head. "Smacking people will not persuade them."

I finished the book today... just got the short story at the end left...

Sorry for being so quiet... as much as I love MWT, I don't find myself with much to say about the books... I just love the characters and their interactions...

The main thing I felt throughout the book, was that I didn't see how the story could all be wrapped up by the end... I guess (view spoiler)[having meddlesome gods pushing the story helps... I'm still dubious that Mede is so easily stymied forever... maybe I've read too many books about uncrushed Empires coming back for more? (hide spoiler)]

Curious to see what you think... and if you think this is the end, or MWT set up some new characters in the epilogue that could end up with their own story (view spoiler)[the baby prince and thief (hide spoiler)]

Don't worry, I'm afraid I wasn't that talkative eigher. I'm glad you were patient enough to wait for me to start the book!
I think it's also due to the book being great in case of character developement and interactions, as well as politic, but not exactly full of actionpacked twists and turns.
I'm not quite done yet, but it's such a quick read compared to Oathbringer :D
I love it and will for sure come back and discuss your spoiler and the end with you.

Done alot of re-reads this year... and struggled to finish alot of new-to-me books... I have a ton of unfinished audiobooks right now, and have been favoring TV over books on my home time...

So, so, so! I finished as well a couple of days ago :) To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed it more, when the rest of the series would have been fresher on my mind. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it... It was really well written, I love MWTs way to describe characters and their relationships. Still there are so many names and I was lost a few times :D

You're right, having gods around to fix things makes it definitely easier! :)
