I don't know if I'll be able to get to this book this month :(

So, I really don't like the 'before' chapters in this book. I know they're important because of their presence in book 2 and the fact that (view spoiler)[ they're clearly Mara's grandmother's experiences (hide spoiler)] , but I really just find them boring compared to the rest of the book. Also, the whole thing with (view spoiler)[ everyone thinking Mara was pregnant when there was no possible way for her to be pregnant annoyed me. When the body is under a lot of stress, your period can stop for awhile. It happens to runners all the time. It's a really simple, scientific answer that I'm pretty sure everyone knows. (hide spoiler)] So, I found that section really dumb. And there are a lot of sections of the book like that that feel like they aren't really adding anything to the story. They're just there for the author to boost her page count. I'm sick of unimportant passages.

I just finished this book, and wow, I'm blown away from everything that happened from start to finish pretty much. But I just want to share something interesting I found. In the 'before' chapters, it talks a lot about how "there is power in a name". Well, I got curious and looked up what Mara meant. Turns out it's Hebrew for 'bitter'. But that's not what intrigued me. From a biblical stand-point, Naomi claims to her mother-in-law Ruth, Mara as an expression of grief after her husband and sons died. Shaw family tree anyone? I just find it interesting how Michelle named Noah's mother Naomi and his step-mother Ruth. Now, maybe there was a clue to a deeper meaning for why they were named that that I missed, but for now, I'm just going to be proud of myself for finding that cool piece of information and continue my research after my heart stops beating so fast from reading this book!

P.S. God almighty, do I need a Noah Shaw in my life.

Just started this! Up to chapter 14 already, so I'm guessing this is going to be a fairly quick read for me
