Part 3, ch 83 (77%) - (view spoiler)[ I am starting to wonder about the brilliancy of Wisty's plan here. So she goes into the jail as a mouse, finds her parents, and then what? Maybe she can win over all these rats like she did the hellhound and make them do her bidding? (hide spoiler)]
Finished - (view spoiler)[ I liked it, but I struggled to get into the story. I thought the parallels to Hitler's Youth, etc. were very interesting, but I think the characters needed a little more development. I didn't really get much from Wisty and Whit, other than it being a surprise that they had these powers and that they obviously care about each other and their parents. Maybe we will get to know them more intimately in the next book? Or maybe I am just judging this middle school read too harshly? IDK, I've read a lot of MS reads. Obviously, I'm not a middle-schooler and maybe if I was I wouldn't be feeling like I'm missing something. This is my first James Patterson. Are all his books like this? (hide spoiler)]

All of his MS/YA books are, yeah. I loved all of them growing up, but definitely now that I'm older I'm not as much of a fan.

Good to know it wasn't just me. It makes me more aware of the MS authors that do more in-depth character development.

Maybe I'll try one of his adult books to see if it is different.

I find them different, but they're mysteries, and I'm not a fan. But I'd like to finish this series, if that's good with you?
