3. Um...

I don't even know how to do this! I might be able to order them by subgenre...

That will take more brain power than I can give right now, ha!

DivaDiane SM | 3682 comments Oh this is hard! I haven’t really finished many series but those I bothered (or was able) to read completely I really like for the most part, so these are just degreesnor
Shades of 4-5 star books for me.

1. Earthsea (all 6)
2. Elderlings
3. LOTR
4. Lilith’s Brood
5. Chronicles of Narnia
6. Deltora Quest and subsequent related series’
7. Hunger Games
8. Deryni (first Trilogy)
9. The Oz books
20. Soldier Son (read the whole thing but I really disliked it.

I’m realizing that I haven’t finished a lot of series that I would like to, so they didn’t make it on my list above:

The Mars Trilogy
Patternmaster
Dragon Prince
A Song Of Ice and Fire

Don’t care so much about Harry Potter, but I expect I’ll finish it sooner rather than later, since my son is reading the one next in line for me.

message 8: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3682 comments Oh and of course I forgot some:

I will read the rest of the Ancillary series.

I don’t really consider the Hainish cycle a series at all. They are so very vaguely linked by the government that ties them all together, but that’s the only thing.

message 9: by Karin (new)

Karin I have read many series over the years and have no idea how I'd rank them. I rarely like a series equally throughout, so this spoils it for me (for example, I read the first three Gormenghast novels when there were only three--loved the first two but disliked the third.) But there are far more series I haven't finished. Then there are some I loved the first time and didn't care for as an adult or later on, such as the Narnia books.

With that, I am going to have to pass overall. One series I liked equally throughout was Beth Revis' Across the Universe series, but I was reading a lot of y/a with my kids back then.

4. Mercedes Lackey"

Ooh. I'm currently getting a kick out of the 500 Kingdoms and am imagining that I might look for more by Lackey... so I looked at her author page and oh my goodness... I might have to consult with you or start a thread....

message 11: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (smolmaus) | 12 comments I thought this would be easy until I started listing! I honestly don't know how to rank them in any sort of scientific or logical way, the only measure I used to choose these was that feeling when you finish a book where you think you might go slightly feral if you can't get the next one.

Broken Earth
Imperial Radch
Dreamblood
Stormlight
Wheel of Time
Discworld
Earthsea
Abhorsen
Rainwilds

message 12: by Nanu (new)

Nanu | 40 comments This is interesting, I never thought of making my own ranking. This tentative one is based purely on how fondly I remember the books:
- Sci Fi top 3 (I haven't read that many)
1. Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson
2. The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy
3. Old Man's War
- Fantasy top 10
1. The Borderlands Saga by Liliana Bodoc
2. Time Master by Louise Cooper
3. Fableheaven by Brandon Mull
4. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
5. Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan
6. A Song of Ice and Fire by G.R.R. Martin
7. The Kingkiller Chronicles by Rothfuss
8. The Inheritance Cycle by Paolini
9. His Dark Materials by Pullman
10. Eagle and Jaguar by Isabel Allende
As you can see, I love middle grade fantasy books. I wanted to include a few series I am currently reading but I don't know how I feel about them as whole yet:
- Dresden Files
- The Witcher
- The Wheel of Time
- Foundation

I've been rereading them this year. I first got them on spanish as a teen and now I am listening to the audiobooks in their original version. I love them.

Sure! Let me know what mood you're in and I can point you in a direction. Lackey is incredibly productive and she spans a lot of spaces.

Skimming these lists, CBRetriever started mine. Take out Lord of the Rings (tried 3 times to read it and gave up every time), replace with Wheel of Time, not familiar with Indigo but agree with the rest and add these:

Acts of Caine
The Iron Druid Chronicles
Gaea Trilogy
Takeshi Kovacs
