Ryan | 5334 comments Olga, wow! What a brilliant first post! There's so much going on here and you have taken the High Priestess and given her layer upon layer of depth. What a villain, she comes alive as I read. I love the image and thought contained within 'amid the hanging pomegranates/we learned the mysteries of the world.' I also think the subtle shifts between 'us' and 'me' in a couple of places are extremely effective. I enjoyed everything in your poem up until the last two stanzas...and then you stepped it up to a whole new level. Very powerful and descriptive writing.

Ryan | 5334 comments Paula! How are you? It's been a little while - so nice to have you back :o)

I think you've handled the rhyming couplets most deftly, your poem rolls off the tongue very smoothly. It certainly has the feel of a teenager writing a poem to her/his older self and captures the feeling of hope/anxiety/wonder so well. I'd love to see a second poem written back from the older self to the teenager with the insight and wisdom of years.

Such beautiful writing, I'm glad you were able to drop in and visit. I hope all is well :)

Ryan | 5334 comments Great rhythm, Anne! I like that you've chosen to tackle the topic straight on and obviously have some knowledge (or good research skills) of tarot. Your language is very consistent throughout and builds up a strong image that contrasts perfectly with the last two lines. They are all the more powerful for what comes before them and are delivered beautifully. I really enjoyed the mystical feeling that you developed early on but I truly love the sentiment you express at the end.

Thanks so much Ryan :) I'm trying to practise writing little things that make people think, so I really appreciate your feedback.

Jim Agustin (jim_pascual_agustin) | 625 comments Thanks, Ryan!

I've had my share of crazies this side of the world. Nervous about going to Johannesburg beyond the confines of the airport on the 4th of November. Excited and swamped and all sorts of other things. Ok, let me shut up.

How have you been?

Thanks for the comments on the poem. It's still a draft so any more will be welcome.

Take care

Well thank you! I had no idea what card would suit my poem best but yes that one would work better. I think everyone ends up at this very spot at some point in their lives, dealing with that inward struggle between their heart and head.
