What images and or thoughts does the symbolism in the title of this book bring to mind for you? What do you think "wings" represent? Could it be freedom?lLiberation?Enlightenment? If so, are these "things" that you feel can be "invented" as the title suggests?

I believe the title symbolizes freedom. Having the wings gives you the ultimate freedom to "fly" which is why its the invention of wings. to me it is basically creating your freedom once you have invented or created your wings you have created your freedom.

I think "wings" is symbolic of both freedom enlightenment. To me, the"invention" part is actually personal growth or experience. I think that Handful will gain not only freedom from slavery, but freedom to "fly" and become the person she wants/is meant to be.

I also like the Notion of inventing yourself , as Petra mentioned because a key part of personal growth is figuring out who you are as an individual.
