Evie (ocarina) | 139 comments I have Librarian powers, but I'm not sure how to fix this. All editions have been added as a part of an Arabic series, even though there are only four listed titles:

I'm currently reading this edition, but it's listed, too:

I've been wondering about this before: how do you add certain editions of a classic to a series without adding all editions? For example, I have an edition of The Essential Rumi which is part of the Mystical Classics of the World series, but don't know how to create such a thing without pulling all editions into the series.

Sandra | 31494 comments It is impossible to only add certain editions to a series. All editions of a work must be able to be added to a series, for it to be a valid series.

It sounds like this is an imprint and not a series. As does the Mystical Classics of the World.

As it mostly listed in Arabic I'm not comfortable in deleting the series, but I'm pretty sure that should be done.

Melaslithos | 1360 comments I don't speak Arabic, but with the help of Google Translate, it looks to me that the series is valid, but that the Arabic translation has been incorrectly combined.

I had the impression that the Arabic version combine with all the other books was only volume 1 of the translation (i.e. not the complete book).

So I'd separate the arabic version and keep only this one in the series. But I'll let an Arabic librarian confirm this (or not).

Elizabeth (Alaska) Many works are published in volumes of the original, making it a multi-volume work. I think this is what has been done here, and therefore is not a series.

No, you can't have only 1 edition belong to a series. And you can't separate an edition just so you can make a series.

Elizabeth could be right, but we definitely need an Arabic librarian here.

Dostoevsky didn't write/publish a series. So if the author is correct, this isn't a series.

Lobstergirl Definitely not a series. Someone who shelves The Brothers Karamazov in Russian or English or French should not be seeing an Arabic series in the metadata! It's absurd.

This is fairly clearly correct, even without speaking any Arabic. (Note consistent translator name, number of pages.) The series is fine, and is not the problem; it links together parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the book, which was broken into parts for publication in Arabic.

The problem is whatever librarian then combined the part 1s with the full book, which I have undone.
