WHY isn't there a movie?

Shannon Not that movies always get it right, but...not everyone can read. Most can, but some just don't ever get it. Plus, I think that this book would make a great movie, one that people would want to curl up on the couch with popcorn and watch before bed.

Does Hollywood hate this book or something?

Richelle I agree with you that this book would make a great movie. It has a little bit of everything people could want; action, romance, and not too much fantasy to push those who aren't fans away. I would love to see it done, but on the other hand, I don't know if they could do the whole series. Some of the stuff with the falcons (especially Hai and her time in Ecl) would be really hard to portray on screen. Though I would be completely satisfied with just Hawksong.

Proud Gaian I've only read the first 2 in the series, but i whole heartedly agree: there NEEDS to be a movie made!

Denae Christine If they were able to cast it right, Hawksong would be an epic movie! Not to mention how fun it would be to watch the avians shift, and see the serpiente outfits, and the palace of the Mistari on film!

Denae Christine I think if the books are popular enough, and movie producers hear about it, then they make a movie. All popular books have movies (even Artemis Fowl supposedly has a screenplay written).

Houseplant To be honest, as much as I love these books, I wouldn't want them made into films. I have no doubt in Hollywood's special effects, they could no doubt portray the shifting and light magicks of Hawk's Keep and the Serpiente palace with stunning clarity and finesse, but my dislike for the idea is of who they would have as actors themselves. I don't know about you, but when I picture Danica Shardae, I see a beautiful and fit (not starved, her ribs are never showing) woman, whose skin has been kissed by the sun for so long that it compliments the gold of her hair. I picture her eyes to be warm amber, like treesap forever caught in sunshine. When I picture Zane Cobriana, I picture a lanky man, with garnet eyes, and skin that is not so pale as to be awared the nicknames of 'emo' or 'goth' that our culture would saddle him with. I just think... if they did make a movie, they'd never get the actors right. Heck, they would mess up on the eyes, no doubt. They would try to make Cobriana Garnet a 'Emo Goff Vampurrr' red. Which, Garnet is more deep, and earthen, than 'red'. They would try to make the Shardae's gold, a more bright and distinctive yellow. And, I feel they would forget, or mess up on the minor details, such as (were they to do the whole series), Ahnmik, Falcon's magic, the white vipers, the wolf tribe....HECK. If they DID do all the series, which, they propbably wouldn't, they might even try to leave out huge turning points, like Oliza and Betia and really that just shouldn't happen. (filmakers leaving it out, not the relationship.) Maybe they would forget to impart warnings, or would think visions weren't important, and would choose to not translate them to the screen....

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but I still don't think they would ever be able to find the perfect actors to portray these characters, to bring this world to life.

Alys I'm not so sure about Hawksong being a movie. I honestly don't think it by itself could hold water on film. Now maybe if they did the first two books together or combined them, then maybe it could work. Its not her best book. I'd almost rather see Forests or Demon become a movie. Get back to that real vampire darkness.

Paula Hawksong is one of my favorite books but I wouldn't want them to make into a movie because I don't want hollywood to ruin it. To tell you the truth I thought Twilight was a pretty okay book but after they made the movies it annoys me now.

mkh Like Paula said, If this turns out to be another Twilight - sh** will go down.

Jackie As cool and awesome as it would be to see Hawksong in action, it wouldn't happen the way any of the book fans would want it to. I've read this book lots of times, and I absolutely love it, but if hollywood got hold of it, chances are it would not live up to expectations.

Gabby It's just because there hasn't been a huge hype about it... like... Harry Potter and Twilight, those two are like... HUGE. These books are BRILLIANT and would make an absolutely AMAZING movie that I would want to see the day it came out... and then I 'd sit there an nit pick at it, but that's not the point. It just needs to get out there. I mean, look at Eragon, that book got a movie that covered just the first book and it was a movie that hardly anyone knew about, it didn't get near the hype that Harry Potter and Twilight did. D:

Jenny I have only read this first one so far and really liked it. It was a little predictable. I will have to read the next one but it would probably need something more than Hawksong like some have mentioned. I was a tad dissappointed with Twilight but was hooked anyway and then after I saw how she orchestrated each book and the end I really liked all of them together. The first one could have probably been condensed into about 3 chapters or so but it was more dramatic I guess to go on and on about their "love". I finally listened to Eragon but not the rest. My son said they ruined the movie and changed too much so it didn't make sense at all.

Jessica usually movie producers screw the movie up. My FAVORITE book is Blood and Chocolate, and the movie is absolutely nothing like the book. There is no reason a good book like Hawksong needs to be ruined by hollywood.

Cayra I have a very hard time getting up the enthusiasm to watch movies based on books I've read, especially ones I enjoyed. Almost every book-based movie I've seen (not including Harry Potter) left me disappointed. Many of the elements of the stories that should have been the best areas of the movies feel forced and flat.

This is my favorite of all favorite books, but I would dread seeing it in the movies.

Diane Nah. Some movies just ruin it for me.

Che Why not? Hollywood has turned less interesting books into movies. I loved this series and have been waiting since forever for a movie version. I could totally see Peter Jackson doing something incredible with all the material the author has already written, plus the amazing work he's done with his past movies: LOTR and Avatar. If Hollywood were willing to spend the time and money to recreate an entire world (like in LOTR) or possibly even use a similar method of making the movie as they did with Avatar, it could be very successful. I mean LOTR was way more complicated than Keisha'ra, so it's very do-able. And I know that as a fan, I probably won't be super ecstatic if they were to exclude/include things, but whatever. The books have always been better than the movies. I would just enjoy a movie version.
