John | 3 comments Hey I'm trying to find a fantasy series I read about 10+ years ago while in middle school. Probably YA fantasy, but not quite sure.

Each book in the series is set a 1000 years apart (or something like that, a significant amount of time anyways), society changes significantly in between the books.

In the first book the main character is a soldier sent to a fortress out in the middle of the sea, everybody expects peace but of course they get attacked, the soldiers fight using wyverns meanwhile magic is outlawed. (view spoiler)

By the time of the second book kingdom is instead defended by magicians. I believe it starts out in a magic school/university. (view spoiler)

The third book strives a balance between magicians and soldiers using wyverns, can't quite remember the whole thing buy believe this book is more about fighting the god-like power behind magic and the evil seen in the previous books and finding a real solution.

I hope someone can help!

The Enduring Flames trilogy by Mercedes Lackey somewhat matches your description, but it was published between 2007-2008.

Julia (mizzelle) | 34 comments Main fantasy series I can think of with wyverns is Katherine Kerr's Deverry series. It's a bit longer than three books though.

John | 3 comments Neither one of those fit, I read the series around 2004 (and it was translated into another language by then).

Some extra details:
First book main protagonist is a young soldier.
Second book main protagonist is a student studying magic.
Third book main protagonist is the rulers son, (view spoiler)

John | 3 comments Solved!

Appears I was wrong in one major assumption, it was NOT translated instead it was written in Swedish. (Which is rare, few fantasy novels originally in Swedish)

The series I was looking for is Trilogin om Frihetskrigen. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Thanks anyways!
