Andrea I am not sure I can explain how much I loved this book! THUG LIFE, The Hate U Give Little Infants F**** Everybody, is the story of an amazing journey of Starr Carter and a teenage girl finding her voice! I laughed, I cried, I was proud, I was devasted, I was angry, all for one child, one family. Sadly, I think this book is a picture of the world we live in and it most definitely needed to be written and should be read by all!

Starr’s journey to being an activist, starts with her witnessing her childhood best friend being shot and killed, in what should have been a routine traffic stop. Khalil was checking on Starr, when he was shot to death. I cannot imagine the devastation this would bring to a child. Starr, is an amazing, strong, witty character, who loves her “J’s” and all things Harry Potter, and has seen two friends murdered and instead of calling it quits, she fights. And she is good.

The rest of the characters have great dialogue and are most definitely entertaining. I love how the book is “real” and diverse. The range of characters and their lives pulls you in. You are positively invested, and do not want to put the book down.

My son and I have had a similar conversation, before the book, after reading the book, we watched the movie (good, but not as amazing or powerful). We cried, and laughed and cheered but we will never fully understand what it is like to live in a town like Garden Heights, and we will never fully understand what the people of these communities go through, the discrimination, the hate, but I think books like The Hate U Give, is a starting point and a must read for all.
