Throughout the book there were several instances where they would make a comment like...he kissed her pate on the top of her head. The definition of pate is head. So my mind would read it as he kissed her head on the top of her head. Then I would stop and reread it and there went the flow of the book. "crap"
But it was such a great story that I soon found myself involved again. :)

Hey Guys, I'm so sorry! I got caught up in my daughter's hair and now I have to rush out to get my son. I'm dropping them off for a playdate and will join u a soon as I can.
As you all know, I loved the book. It was darn near perfect for me. I could wish he has brought up marriage a little sooner as the two were apparently living together as though they were married, sharing a bed and all, but even so I was good with the way things evolved.
I thought the h was awesome! She slept with him quick, but with her background I thought it was totally believable that she was so starved for love she'd look for it wherever she could get it.

haha Noreen! Good point about pate and head. I actually thought pate meant the top of the head, right above the forehead!

Kate, What didn't you like about the book? I think this is where our individual likes and dislikes really show themselves.

LOL! I just went with it. But that is a great feature on Kindle if you don't know what a word means you can click on it for the def. I still haven't got Kate. Did anyone else sigh when he saved the crushed up crocus?

It means head or top of the head. So he kissed her on the top of her head on her head still sounds stupid. lol

OMG...Yes! When he saved that crocus I just about melted.

The Groping scene. They are laying in the ground. His son between him. He wants to show her how attractive she is to him. So he takes her hand and puts it on his erection and says in effect. "see how you attract me" Lost a star right there. That is the worst pick up line since man crawled out of the cave. I've seen it used before by other writers. Any man who uses it should be barred from having sex with a female forever. That includes sheep, goats and dogs. TSTHS-to stupid to have sex.

As you all know, I l..."
I totally agree. Maybe because he was so compassionate or because she really needed to feel loved, like you said. I never felt like the "sex" was just casual or for carnal gratification. It almost seemed spiritual at some points.

I also loved the flea epidemic. LMAO! The water hole scene when he stood scratching his groin instead of jumping in the water. LOL!

I just seen that you made it. Yea!

The Groping scene. They are laying in the ground. His son betwe..."
K~ Will you think bad if I say that doesn't bother me? It is a human based male response. Who hasn't had her hubby or significant other infatuated with his erection? "Look I can hang a wash cloth." LOL! Now while I agree Malcom laying between them is kind of bad he wasn't aware and so I let it slide.

The Groping scene. They are laying in the ground. His son betwe..."
I felt that was odd and kind of out of place in this book. But then again, she was very unsure of herself and in that day and age I don't believe the highlanders were shy about sex. I think that is the difference between the Highlanders and the English Court. The Highlanders were open, honest and free about everything...sex included. The English Court became very corrupt and sex was just another self indulgence.
I'm glad you pointed that out though. If that scene had been in a lot of other books, I would have been turned off as well.

I love the crocus too. I cracked up about the fleas as well. I loved when he gave her his blanket to wrap around her and the boy and the moment she realized it was his blanket and it was too late. lol

Which brings us to the second part of that equation. the "I'll never get over my dead wife thing". Why not? She hated you. You weren't in Love with her. Yet a young and virile hilander gives up sex.
This is the second book I've read recently where the Hero is mourning a wife he didn't like.
By the way your posts are not coming up automatically on my screen . I need to go out to the email and re enter to see them.

When they were all handing their blankets to her and I seen he was among them I laughed to myself because I was already thinking eeeww...don't take it. Then she was basically thinking the same thing. Then when she in the kitchen and they all strip down to their cute little bottoms I had to laugh at the picture that must presented to Iain when he came in and found her. ROTFLMAO!

The Groping scene. They are laying in the ground. ..."
Ok Elizabeth. Your the one that told me writing reflects. modern times. So excluding husbands or SO's who we have already had sex with.
Picture this. You go into a club. An attractive man at the bar asks to buy you a drink. You talk and then he tells you you are beautiful and then grabs your hand puts it on his erection. Tell me your not going to dump your drink on his head and move on to the guy on the next bar stool.
The crocus--very romantic. The grope--TSTHS.
I agree to me the flea scene was even funnier then the escape scene. I did love that he was a nice guy. In fact they were pretty much all nice.
I agree with Noreen about the highlanders' attitude towards sex as opposed to the later English court. I too would have been more upset about that scene had it been in a different book. As it was it didn't bother me at all.
I too felt it was a little much that he gave up sex completely for that long. But I don't think it was because of any misplaced loyalty. I think she really messed him up and he lost his self confidence.

Which brings us to the second part of that equation. the "I'll never get over my dead..."
Kate, I don't think he gave up sex because he loved his dead wife...I think he was haunted by the guilt of her death. He knew she didn't love him and he didn't love her. He seemed to repeatedly think about the possibility of hurting another woman as though he thought there was something wrong with him. That part was a bit baffling to me, but who knows what makes a person believe some of the things that they do about themselves?
FYI...If you just hit refresh the screen will come back up with the newer stuff on it.

They don't come to my screen either. I am responding and than going back to my in box refreshing it and then clicking n it. LOL! I didn't see as him mourning is awful, dead wife more like a once bitten twice shy effect. The fact he wasn't having sex was touching in one way but unbelievable in another. He was the laird I would imagine he would need the relief of tension and the clan had to have some loose ladies I would imagine. I like when they have a past wench who tries t sway the man back to her bed. Highland Bride (Murray Family, #6) had that kind of story and it was much fun watching this knuckle headed laird thought it natural to keep a wench on the side. The heroin, Gilly, set him straight not to mention the slut right off the bat. Subtly was not her strong suit. I love when the author writes the clan like some big old family and the men are giants but big softies toward the h.

LOL I loved that scene too. Loved it when he grabbed her and took her out of there because he didn't want her washing flea guy.
Remember he thought that by having sex with the h she might grow to hate him. Even more so should he get her pregnant. I think a number was done on him by his wife. That brings me to my one complaint about the story...I would've liked more background as to what exactly Lagan did to cause the H's wife to hate and fear him so much. He thought to himself about the efforts he took in that regard but it was never really explained
Anyway I'm on the road. I pulled over to leave my comments. The kids are crying that they are hungry. I'll get back with u guys in a few.

It didn't lower my rating but don't you wish she had told her father off at the end. I realize she had just been thrown off a mountain but she had a mouth for everyone else. Woman up.

The Groping scene. They are layin..."
LMAO! The bar scene you describe would be horrible. That actually was pretty close to Sweet Addiction which is where Noreen and I met and I hated that book. I DNF it. Thank god I didn't pay for it. In the book it did not bother me and maybe I should be bothered with my acceptance of it but I'm not. LMAO! It's good to be bad sometimes.
Yes I was annoyed that her father got away with no repercussions. And what about her brothers? We are told she had at least a couple but never heard anything about them or their attitudes towards her.
And BTW Kate, I don't do singles bars. Never have and never will. LOL

The fact that she was willing to wash them that was the big thing I found fault in. I do not believe she was considering it. I did not like that in the least. I live in a different time and I would not wash a strange man. I mean if it was my job or a loved one yes but...

LOL...I think the grope fit the time period. If some guy did that to me in a bar now...I would be forced to hurt him. ;)

No six years for a young healthy guy who would have had every bimbo at the keep chasing him is to long. He knew to withdraw for the h so he would have been careful.
Even the first time they make love he keeps asking her "is she sure?' No wonder he never got laid. By the third time he asked me that I would have been dressed and out the door.

Yes I agree with more background on that. Her writing on the betrayal and bastard brother is commonly found in Hannah Howells writing and having that little info of the past gives it more depth.

Again, I think it is the time period. Washing the prominent male guests was usually done by the lady of the place. Washing the sick or in this case...flea ridden...became the job of all the women. Don't forget there were other women in the room and none of them reacted to the men being naked.

I can't believe she had to think if she should stay or go. To me the decision was crystal clear.

At my age there called senior clubs. Never say never.

EB, Just glad I was reading the reviews on that book. I would have hated it as well.

I agree with Kate and RF on this. Would have loved for the highlanders to just tar and feather the father before sending him on his way.

You are right on that and I knew that but then I thought because she was with Iain and he was laird that task was reserved only for his washing. I wanted him to be upset with the idea she was touching another man, I guess.

I understand your view on Iain's crude behavior and had they been in England it may have bothered me but then I can so picture St. Vincent from Devil in Winter doing that. Who doesn't like him?
