Also I just found out that Margaret Atwood's Trilogy beginning with Oryx and Crake is being adapted for HBO in 2015 and also Wolf Hall will also be adapted to TV sometime soon.

I didn't know about this one! Thanks for mentioning it!

Anyone interested in Penny Dreadful posts? I'll put the main thread now, just to show you what I mean :)

Mary wrote: "How about a thread for Pretty Little Liars? I am just starting to read the book series. I am obsessed with the t.v. show. Plus the next season will be its last. PLL will have been on for 7 seasons."
That sounds like good idea! But I didn't watch the show nor read the books, so I don't know if the series follow the books or they are completely different entities.
Would you like to try to create those posts yourself? You can style them your own way, just put them in this group folder. It would be great to have those posts to follow your reading and (re)watching, especially as others might join you too :)

No if only there was a Chief Inspector Gamache T.V. series....

I would like to watch that series, and read the book. For some reason, I thought this was a classic novel, written in that time. I think the book cover and the subject matter deceived me. Imagine surprise when I realized the author is still very much alive :)

There is a second Alienist which is terrific, too. And Carr is writing a new one.

Oh yes, I am happy Foundation is finally on its way! Dune and Foundation were my favorites when I was a kid. Now I really must re-read them as soon as possible.

Another one that remained popular is the 1980-1990s Sherlock Holmes series. It ran for several seasons, doing mostly 50 minute episodes based on the short stories, a couple of the novels and a couple longer episodes where liberties were taken with a short story. The first season - The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" seems to remain the most popular and the shows do a very good job of adapting the stories.
Back in the 70s and 80s the "novel for television" was very popular and limited TV series were made from books like "Rich Man, Poor Man," "QBVII", "Shogun," "The Winds of War", "North and South," "Roots" "Salem's Lot" - too many to mention.

The most famous book adaptation is certainly Game of Thrones, but there are others too, from British classics such as Chronicles of Narnia, Hornblower, Sharpe, Jeeves and Wooster, Inspector Morse, and Hercule Poirot, to American crime fiction like Homicide, The Wire, Dexter, The Dresden Files, and True Blood, to other fiction like Anne of Green Gables, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, and The Vampire Diaries.
This thread is intended to be an introductory post for all the others we may have for this topic in this folder -- and to show what we mean, we'll start the discussions with opening the threads about Game of Thrones.
How these threads should look like? If TV show you would like to discuss consists of more than one book you should separate your posts - one should be for the book, the other for the series and the third for the comparisons. If TV show has only one book for its basis (and there are surely some), then make one thread for the book and the rest for the series as they go. However, that's just my two cents, discussions can be done in any way that would suit you, of course.
