rzells (rayraya) | 11 comments It seems most of the teens here are into fantasy. Are there any of you who enjoy other genres more? Historical fiction, romance, memoirs, nonfiction, etc.
Why do you all love fantasy so much?

Because fantasy is escapism; fantasy takes you to another place in another world in another time where you don't have to worry about whatever drama is going on in your life. Contemporary novels can be great, but you're reading about the very same sort of stuff you're reading to get away from.

I love other genres, too, but my favourite books are probably the ones that take me somewhere else where I'd rather be.

Historical fiction does exactly the same thing, except it's realistic

Agreed.

Kristin Vincent (kristinkitty) I like fantasy cause it's so different that the world we live in. It's a nice break

Jazzy (stairstepjitters) | 135 comments Fantasy is the stuff of dreams, nightmares, and daytime drifts. It's like living inside your head for a few hours. Hopping realities. You feel like a time and space traveling adventurer. It's fun and creative.

So often I think young people are put down for wanting to escape and are said to have their "heads in the clouds", which considering human nature just makes young people want to escape even more. It's a rebellion and a much-needed break at the same time, AKA the perfect lure for a teenager.
