Natalie Gordon | 4 comments Hi, Just joined Goodreads hoping to find some inspiration for my 10 year old daughter. She's a voracious reader, read the Harry Potter series when she was 7, now says The Hunger Games is the "best set of books ever" and also loves Lauren St John. She's not interested in teenager love themes but wants adventure and feisty characters. I've run out of ideas. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Jasmine | 160 comments Percy Jackson is a great series, the red blazer mysteries are girls with spunk, as well as the Grimm Sisters. Let me think further and I'll add more.

Also maybe Rick Riordan's other series "The Red Pyramid" which I actually enjoyed more than Percy Jackson.

And perhaps Kenneth Oppel's "Airborn" series.

Or Scott Westerfield's "Leviathan" series.

All well-written and enjoyable. The latter two have male protagonists but I think the main female characters could be considered "feisty" or spunky ;-)

Some classic SF and fantasy might work, like Anne McCaffrey.

Natalie Gordon | 4 comments Thanks everyone! I'll take a look and see how she gets on with them. I had wondered about Rick Riordan. Someone had recommended Divergent but they look like a copycat of the Hunger Games and also probably too old for her

Chris Meads | 94 comments If she likes animals--there is the Warrior Cats Series (cats) and there are also ones on dogs (Survivors) and bears (Seekers) by Erin Hunter. I collect the cat ones and love them.

If she likes mysteries at all, Sammy Keyes, 7th grader, is a very feisty character. I believe there are 15 books in this series by Wendelin Van Draanen, starting with
Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief.

I've become a huge fan of The Time Hunters series by Carl Ashmore. High adventure and one of the main characters is a girl close to your daughter's age. I highly recommend it.

June (june_krell) | 121 comments If she liked the The Hunger Games, she might like Collins other series Gregor the Overlander. I would recommend starting Anne McCaffrey with Dragonsong. Another great mystery series about Sherlock Holmes younger sister begins with The Case of the Missing Marquess. Another favorite fantasy series begins with The Thief. I also second Patricia Wrede series. A new favorite is the Kat, Incorrigible The first sentence is "I was twelve years of age when I chopped off my hair, dressed as a boy, and set off to save my family from impending ruin."

The last ones are: "I was twelve years of age when I cut my hair short, became a highwayman, and captured husbands for both of my sisters. Oh, I forgot Tamora Pierce Alanna: The First Adventure and Diana Wynne Jones Castle in the Air
