If you had to choose...who would you choose out of Edmund and Peter Pevensie???

Prince Caspian

My favourite has always been Edmund(my mother read the books to me when I was very young). The main reasons I can say that he is, to me, a better more defined and interesting character is this:
1. As many fellows have said, he has a character arc while Peter remains completely static.
2. He is the just king. His role is to judge others but because of his own failings he will have mercy on them where someone who hasn't fallen from grace would not.
3. This line from PC, "the last time I didn't believe Lucy I ended up in some trouble." This shows two things, he owns up to his mistakes and he will pay his debts.

I always felt sorry for Edmund. It never felt like he was "redeemed" from being a black sheep.

For me, ever since I was little, Edmund has always been my favourite. I love his character development. Edmund always felt so real, being a child who was confused and angry due to war and the affects it had on him, he then makes a mistake with terribly consequences, but he tries to rectify it, growing into a very wise and just man. Peter does not come close to this developement or relatability.

I always liked Peter. I think it’s probably because of Edmunds betrayal that makes me like him even more.

Edmond, he's so cool!

Is this even a question. OF COURSE PETER

Peter is friendly, but not very interesting and very distanced to both the reader and the other characters. Edmund is difficult, more complex, more people can relate to him and he learns from his failures. I like him more, by far! I'd like Peter more, if he'd do anything more than just being noble and friendly. But don't get me wrong! I could never dislike him - he is way too kind! I'd love him as a real person! But I think he is not very interesting, as a book character.

I would choose Edmund. He symbolizes humanity and undeserved mercy on all of us.

Definitely Edmund. As others have already said he is a whole lot more relatable than Peter, because he has faults, but grows to be better because of them. Peter is "good" to start with and stays that way throughout all the books so he is a very stagnant character, which may be another reason most people prefer Edmund.

And I absolutely loved Edmund in "The Horses Boy".

Abby C. You do have a good point. Peter doesn't change much (always the good boy) but Edmund does a bit more. I loved Edmund in "The Horse's Boy", too. ...more

My first choice would DEFINITELY be Peter, but Edmund's cool, too.

I really like Peter. He was a good character and a great brother.

Hmm... I don't know, it's been a while since I read the series and I do like both Peter and Edmund but I think I'll choose Edmund. He seems very realistic...very relate-able, and down to earth. I really grew to like him.

Edmund. He's very firm and just, but at the same time, so vulnerable. He seems, I don't know, less jaded, than Peter. He does wrong things but he recognizes that, and he actively seeks to right those wrongs.

Its hard to choose. If we were relating more to the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, I would choose Peter.

I always found Edmund more interesting. He grows as a character and has faults, making the readers more capable to relate to him. Peter always struck me as a sanctimonious bore to be honest

I wonder if our own birth order plays a part in which we prefer?

Abby C. I think it might have to do a little bit with that, yeah, but also it might have to do with which person we pity or if we like the way one acts better ...more

I think I like Edmund better; I agree with the person above who stated that he seems more 'human'.. we can see his faults and how he matures as a person throughout the course of some of the books.

Also he's kind of the 'black sheep' of the four siblings.

Hmm...well I haven't read all 7 books yet (only Magician's Nephew, The Lion the witch and the Wardrobe, and Prince Caspian) but I think I like them both about evenly. I like Edmund because he seems more 'human' if you know what I mean, and I also like Peter because he's like a leader and is always looking out for his younger siblings.

I usually like type like Edmund better, but in the course of the chronicle (means all 7 books) I grow to like Peter better, maybe because Edmund have lesser 'screen time'.

Definetly I would choose Edmund, first, I LOVE that name. Second, I agree with the other two girls from above, we can see how he grows up and mature along all the three books in which he appears most. And I think that that is a very important thing cause we can see much more of him and that gives us a lot of opportunities to love him. Third, I've always love when someone acknowledges his faults and mistakes and much more important than that- actually does something to get things right. Sorry if I don't write well or if I don't make myself clear, English is my second language.
