I just read this one which is not like anything I've been reading lately. I needed a change . I loved it. It was a sweet story about orphans in the 1920's. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Only With You (Man Enough, #4) by Nicole McLaughlin
My review - 4.5 stars

I learned something myself from a couple of vividly illustrated, picture book biographies for young kids. I expect more than a few parents and teachers could benefit from these. I included a few pictures so you can see what they're like.Bonyo Bonyo by Vanita Oelschlager is the true story of a poor Kenyan village boy with dreams of becoming a doctor.

Harriet Tubman by Isabel Sanchez Vegara is the story of a young girl who escaped slavery and joined the Underground Railroad. (And we're still waiting to see if she'll be on a new $20 bill!)

About to start
Don't Believe It by Charlie Donlea after I have just finished two reads that rate at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Dying Truth by Angela Marsons is a brilliant 5-star read. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...and on my blog sandysbookaday.wordpress.com https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
The second read,
What Holly's Husband Did by Debbie Viggiano failed to engage me. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my blog sandysbookaday.wordpress.com https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
This "series" is such a great publication to make readers aware of what's on the publishing horizon. Buzz Books 2018: Spring/Summer: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Patrick DeWitt, Sheila Heti, Kristan Higgins, Ottessa Moshfegh Allison Pearson and 35 More has heaps of excerpts for you. Some of these are out now, and some will be soon.

And the next in the series is Buzz Books 2018: Fall/Winter: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Stephen Carter, Jude Devereaux, Leif Enger, Barbara Kingsolver, Sarah Perry and 35 MoreThe excerpts are from books due to be published in the American autumn and winter (generally after September).
5★ https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...And remember, they are FREE!
Helen Garner is one of Australia's best writers, whether it's long or short, fiction or non-, and she's a firm favourite of mine. This volume comprises 3 previous books in one, plus some. Love it! True Stories: The Collected Short Non-Fiction

Dorie wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "And the next in the series is [book:Buzz Books 2018: Fall/Winter: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Stephen Carter, Jude Devereaux, Leif Enger, Barbara Kingsolv..."I know the feeling well, but it’s too tempting not to read just a little bit of what’s coming up, Dorie!
PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Dorie wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "And the next in the series is [book:Buzz Books 2018: Fall/Winter: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Stephen Carter, Jude Devereaux, Leif Enger, Ba..."that's true, but then that's another book on my shelf that I feel I have to read and review. I don't think these Buzz Books should be under pressure to write a review, because it's just advertising for their books. I just think they should be a free bee!
Dorie wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Dorie wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "And the next in the series is [book:Buzz Books 2018: Fall/Winter: Exclusive Excerpts from Forthcoming Titles by Stephen Carter, Jude ..."They are free on kindle to all. No need to obtain from NG if you don’t have time to review it. That said, it is a quick review to write :)

I recommend "Missing Pieces" by Laura Pearson (pub date June 23) and "In the Dark" by Cara Hunter (pub date July 12)
"I never lie" by Jody Sabral. (Pub date June 11) Should finish tonight. An amazing insight into being an alcoholic and a journalist. Review tonight or tomorrow I hope
About to start
Night-Gaunts and Other Tales of Suspense by Joyce Carol Oates after finishing
The Summer Children by Dot Hutchison, an excellent third installment of a brilliant series. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my blog sandysbookaday.wordpress.com https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...
I finished The Ice Swimmer
by Sweden's Kjell Ola Dahl. Orenda releases the paperback version in October, but it's available via Kindle now. Also, while it's book 8 in the series, it works perfectly well as a standalone. Here's a link to my 4-star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am currently reading on my Kindle, The Cold Summer, a police procedural inspired by the real Mafia war in 1970s Italy. I am also reading in hardcover The Sting of the Wild by the scientist who developed the insect sting index by letting insects sting him.
I like to have a short story anthology Santa Cruz Noir from the Akashic Noir series, because I think of short stories as book snacks that I pick up between book meals. lol
I am also reading A Nation Unmade by War I read it in small bites because the current situation is so infuriating.
Lastly, I am reading Marking the Sparrow's Fall: The Making of the American West and probably will never finish. There is one more story left and once I read it, I will have read everything by Wallace Stegner and the thought is just unbearable. I seem to prefer leaving that one story unread to not having anything more to read. I read this far in the book in a short time last year, but just could not make myself turn to the next and last story.
What a wonderful, convoluted mystery, and I enjoyed all seven! The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle 5★ by Stuart Turton
