Quit Avempartha. I was bored for several reasons. Now giving Titus Groan a 3rd attempt. I think I’m finally in the mood for it. Simon Vance’s narration is awesome.

I know several people who loved it, but I HATED it. Impenetrable like you say and then the actual central mystery - once you get to it - just isn’t very interesting. I gave up on it part-way through and tbh if you’re struggling with it I’m tempted to suggest that you do the same...
Just started reading the new book from R.J. Barker, The Bone Ships, which came out a couple of days ago in the UK. I loved Barker’s previous trilogy, starting with Age of Assassins, and this new book is just as good so far - ships made of dragon bones!

😂 I’m a huge fan of Robin Hobb so yeah I thought of that comparison as well... but tbh certainly in the early chapters, there doesn’t seem that much similarity to Ship of Magic.
Many of you will probably have already seen that the GR science fiction and fantasy club is doing a chapter-a-day buddy read during October of A Night in the Lonesome October, starting with the prologue on September 30th. The kindle edition is only 99p on UK Amazon right now so I’m going to participate- I’ve seen this book recommended in the S&L forums before so possibly of interest to others too?

Apple’s iBooks has it for $1.99, but if the sample is anything to go by, the entire thing is in italics. Hard pass on that.

The sample I looked at was normal... £0.99 from the UK iBook store, of course theUS edition may be rubbish.
Does it have Gahan Wilson illustrations...

I got a copy from the Aus Amazon store a while back, but couldn't get into it. I may revisit it at some stage.

It does, but they’re so small they’re hard to see.
Thanks, I'll grab the iBooks edition and keep looking for a copy of the paperback. I may have a copy stashed in a box in my garage.
At page 179 I’m done with House of Leaves. I can’t stand to read another single page of this pretentious nonsense. I feel like I’m reading a completely different book than everyone that thought it was so amazing. I’m a bit perplexed. Next up is Night Shift by Stephen King, which I expect I will enjoy much more.
I finished A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World in about 3 days. One of the better dystopia novels I have read in the last couple of years. read by the author in audio form, who has that slight British accent I enjoy to listen to. Would like to see it as a Laser pick as dog lovers will enjoy it.

That and it cost me $18 which is way more than I pay for books anymore since I use kindle for basically everything.
