I'm so happy that even after 9 chapters I'm still loving this, but I'm also a bit scared, what if that changes later on.

I like her friend Katrien hopefully there's going to be more of her. Nathaniel's comebacks are peeeerfect. I like the main character. Pretty much I like everyone and think the writing is perfect.
I'm intrigued about Silas and I'm looking forward to finding out more about him.

I'm (finally) starting to read this! I'm just on chapter 2 so I don't have anything to comment.

But I have a question, is all the book so descriptive?

I'm on chapter eleven and I love the plot of this book! Though I miss somemore conversation. I'm so slow because of allthe descriptions, and if I'm not 100% concentrated I usually pass them.
The characters are awesome! I love innocent Elisabeth, so afraid of Nathaniel, and him mocking her. And I really like te magic of Silas, making Elisabeth forget about him.

I usually I'm not a extra big fan of a lot of descriptions but this one (at least the 9 chapters I read) 😊 I adore it and the characters are awesome too.

I just finished chapter 19. At first I had some thoughts as it can be seen below, but later on I just got engrossed in the story that I forgot to comment 😂

I assumed and I assumed right that Ashcroft is not who he is pretending to be... which is a cliche and so predictable.. but I still love this book. (hide spoiler)]

general thoughts: it's not really a surprise that I like all the characters, but now that I saw more of Silas 😁 I freaking adore that demon. And I wish for more Elisabeth-Nathaniel interactions.

That is true. It is a bit fluffy. Good start for a series to build off of. Kinda hope the next is less fluffy... but at the same time, the author really made it work.

I start a series and then it sits and I forget things happened, and I can't make myself continue it, and the series pile on... so I'm happy this is a standalone for some reason I can appreciate it more because I don't have to think which book in the series I liked more.

Today it was a book day so I'm on chapter 23. I really like how this is going on and that I finally read a series with no royalty involved -more or less. And I love the mystery plot, and the world building with all the books from different classes and turning into something bad if something happens.

(view spoiler)[I really hated Ashcroft and his kindness. Being all part of the plot... and then wanting to lock her on the madhouse. Actually I loved the part when the doctor told her that she had a case of histeria xD Just for that I imagined perfectly the era where the action happens.
I love Silas too, she seems like a "good" demon. The part of "Mr. Fluffington"... and the look he made.

I want to know more about the past of Nathaniel and Elisabeth! In my theories I think they could be siblings or half-siblings or so... (please not another forced romance T-T)

😂 yep. I started reading more sequels and every time I finish a few and think there are less.. noup it's the same number or higher, but at least I'm more active at finishing started series.

I have yet to read this for today, but I hope to at least get to chap 23

I am quite curious how Elisabeth is going to find her way out of this and back to Nathaniel as I assume he becomes a very vital part of the story as it goes forward. I'm curious what he didn't tell her, as was mentioned between him and Ashcroft.. I adore Silas
and feel that he will likely become one of my favorites in this book! (hide spoiler)]

I'm going to try really hard to finish this one tomorrow before the 1st so I can log it towards a monthly challenge but I'm not holding my breath lol.. Didn't get near as much reading time today as I had hoped.

It's so wonderful when you still have time before the 1st 😂 I wanted to finish it too before the new month because I started reading it on the 3rd and it's not like a hard book or something for me to take a month to read it... but I have about 14h to finish it and I have things to do... The way I am I'm probably going to push it and finishing it before going to sleep.

I pushed myself and I finished it, I got a bit bored because I was trying to finish it but nevertheless this was a good read. The ending was good.

For a second I had a heart attack in chapter 26(view spoiler)[ because Silas was "killed" (hide spoiler)] but thankfully that didn't stick for long

Chapter 31 (view spoiler)[gaaah, Director Hyde annoys me so much, also the warden, they are blindly following rules and thoughts of someone from hundreds years before. It really pissed me off how they are against librarians and sorcerers being, well, more than enemies. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ So I'm curious if Elisabeth has some sort of sorcerer's lineage or something going on. There is definitely something special about her - being able to resist demons and now falling into the grimoire and talking to Prendergast. I'm anxious to see what Ashcroft sis up to.

The story of Nathaniel's family was heartbreaking and that he still suffers from nightmares about it makes my heart ache for him. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 29 (I think duh) (view spoiler)[I'd said before that I didn't like forced romances but I ship these two together. The fact is that I understand the romance from Elisabeth's part, but from Nathaniel... Well, I wasn't convinced about why he liked her. But the best part is when Silas closes the door when they start kissing. (hide spoiler)]

I'm on that point where I know more or less what is happening but the characters don't and Aaaah.

this romance isn't forced but it has some moments where it looks like it skipped a step or two, like the Nathaniel part as you mentioned, you can see how Elisabeth got there but him.. not so much. Still they are adorable and Silas is freaking awesome :D

Finally I could finish it!
I loved to see Katrien again~

Thinking about the book I liked how here the roles are torned -Elisabeth is the warrior and Nathaniel is the sorcerer. Also I loved that nobody in the book told her that she didn't have to use swords, as normalizing the situation. And I really loved the hysteria part as I said before, and I'm just glad I live in this era and not decades ago.

So behind on all of my reads!!!!! Finally finished ch30.

(view spoiler)[ this is so good, I want to relish every moment with these characters just knowing that in less than a hundred pages I will have to say good-bye. I'm so glad they were able to bring Silas back but am worried about what will happen when they set him free - as I expect that will have to happen to end Ashcroft's plan since it was so obviously foreshadowed....
