If you could make ANY ending to this book, how would it be?

I just want to know what other people think, if you wouldn't change it, say it, if you would please don't write it like;
"I would make it so Knox wouldn't die."

note : this question is two years late (i know) but i like to take this as a bit challenge. i'm not a good story writer so i pardon lol
here it goes
I'll make the scene where Knox's Pops and Guardians arrive a bit late so Syd and the Gang would have a time to think.
the actual
When Syd, Knox and Marie arrived at Old Detroit (way earlier that what the book suggest, and without the help of the recruiter, which i totally forgot the name), they'll take a few days there, then Mr. Baram explain that the machine will cause Syd's life to upload the virus from him. When Mr. Baram said that, both Syd and Knox crumble in shock. Knox act again like a brat and rant in them but Syd calmed him down. And Syd ask for a few time to think about that. he did not tell the reason so he went on his room to think. Knox followed him and look at him from the distant before approaching him to ask what he feel.
Knox left him and overheard something from Mr. Baram, he take it as a omen and what might happen if Syd was done sacrificing. Meanwhile, Syd once dream something, like a glimpse from future if he uploaded it. (like he dream is the whole Guardian). then he wake up when Knox blast the door of Syd's room, approached Syd and offer a plan to escape and explain to him what he heard. Syd suddenly crumble to shock when he heard it, and he also told Knox about his dream, and hearing the guardians were approaching near to the Old Detroit. The night before Syd would upload the virus, they prepare for escape, Knox made a Patch to change their identities and Syd prepare for their stock, Marie saw them and ask them what they are doing and threatened them not to escape or they might be killed. They did not listen. Marie went back to warn Mr. Baram, but too late for her, Knox and Syd were preparing in a Hovercraft. Already Hacked by Knox and maintenance by Syd.
when Mr. Baram and his reinforcements, with Marie came, they were already inside and the Hovercraft zoomed away from the area. Knox's Pops and the Guardians saw the moving hovercraft and the Guardians detect different identited so they thought it wasn't the two, so they approach the Old Detroit and launched an attack, resulting in the death of majority of Guardians and Eeron got heavily wounded and ask for Syd and Knox. Mr. Baram told them they escape by using hovercraft and don't know where they'll go.
I want this ending so the sequel would be race against time, like Jason Bourne-ish, Futurism version.
