Violet is forever sighing, "doing nothing", trying to shout or scream, only to manage a whisper. She's annoying and empty, a strange but uninteresting combination.
I wish that the story were narrated by Summer, Violet's curvy, promiscuous, confident neighbor. She is a far more compelling character, one who isn't afraid of ghosts - or boys - and that fearlessness would be more intriguing to hear from. Just before being terrified by a specter, Summer describes, "I was giggling ans swinging my hair, and he had his hand on my arm...I licked my lips, because I thought I knew what was coming." Summer narrating this story would have more punch, more tension. She's the stronger personality that would have made a more meaningful main character.

I'm currently on the third book of this series. Magnus Bane, a friend of the secondary protagonist William Herondale, gives advice to the Will. "I can tell you that the end of a life is the sum of the love that was lived in it." I don't understand this advice and I've tried multiple times to understand it. I repeat this in my head over and over and I still don't understand what it means. I chose this quote because I want to know what his sdvice means. I understand that it's advice about life and love.
