Be specific: use character names, book title, author, quotes and citations from the text. Make use of the list of 19 ways to respond to literature handed out on 10/1/14. Bellow, I'm offering my response to #11 as a guide.

Terry | 2 comments For the past two weeks, I've been reading Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. This is a Gothic tale of corruption and evil that starts out as a spooky little coastal-ghost story. Violet - our protagonist - is smitten by a handsome, mysterious stranger who comes to live in the guest house. She is curiously smart and foolish, passionate and detached. Truthfully, I've been entirely annoyed by her as both a character and a narrator. She does things that are inconsistent and jarring; she both loves and hates the stranger, River; she is confident and ashamed.

Violet is forever sighing, "doing nothing", trying to shout or scream, only to manage a whisper. She's annoying and empty, a strange but uninteresting combination.

I wish that the story were narrated by Summer, Violet's curvy, promiscuous, confident neighbor. She is a far more compelling character, one who isn't afraid of ghosts - or boys - and that fearlessness would be more intriguing to hear from. Just before being terrified by a specter, Summer describes, "I was giggling ans swinging my hair, and he had his hand on my arm...I licked my lips, because I thought I knew what was coming." Summer narrating this story would have more punch, more tension. She's the stronger personality that would have made a more meaningful main character.

Mariah Adame | 1 comments I recently just finished A Time For Dancing by Hurwin. The main character, Jules, has cancer. After months and months of chemotherapy she finally decides she would rather get other alternatives to treating the cancer. She is acting very selfish about the whole situation but im pretty sure she has a valid explanation. I have no clue how I would be acting if I got delieverd the news that I had cancer. I enjoyed reading this book.

Jacob Tracy | 1 comments #10 For the past few weeks I've been reading Divergent and the person who tells this story is named tris and I really enjoy this book alot I think she is the right person to tell this story because she is the person that every thing happpens too and if it was from someone elses point of view then the story just wouldn't be the same I honstley think the story would be very boring and not interesting at all. One person the I think that the only other person that could tell this story is Four. Four is Tris's boyfriend and I think this because he is always with her and he seems to know what is always happening to her. But, I think Tris is the best story teller.

Khusbu Patel | 1 comments In the book because I am furniture a girl named anke is the one telling the story about how she is invisible to her father and gets no attention. She is the best person to tell the story because it shows her veiws on everything that is going on, and she gets to see her sister and brother get abused but she doesn't.

Madison Topoian | 1 comments I recently finished A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard. It is a very dark and kind of disturbing book;but at the same time it was really interesting to see how she survived, and overcame all the obstacles mentioned in this book. I couldn't stop reading it because I just wanted to see the outcome of how she survived this situation. She takes you through her experience of her 18 years of captivity, and describes everything she's feeling. She also includes pages from her diary which are really fascinating to read. It's very good and if you want to read it I recommend it!

William Huynh | 1 comments I've been readingClockwork Princess. This is the third book in this series. This series is about an American girl ,Theresa Gray, who goes to London in search of her brother. After her arrival she is taken to a house where she is held captive and learns for the first time that she is not human. Her captors train her in a brutal way to use her ability to transform into other individuals. She is rescued by William Herondale ,a shadowhunter, and takes Theresa to an institute. She stays there to get help from the other shadow hunters to find her brother.

I'm currently on the third book of this series. Magnus Bane, a friend of the secondary protagonist William Herondale, gives advice to the Will. "I can tell you that the end of a life is the sum of the love that was lived in it." I don't understand this advice and I've tried multiple times to understand it. I repeat this in my head over and over and I still don't understand what it means. I chose this quote because I want to know what his sdvice means. I understand that it's advice about life and love.
