That's so sad! I hate it when the H and h get their HEA at the expense of another, likeable character! It makes the HEA bitter sweet. I will read it, I'm sure. It's Loch and you know how much I love her. I just hope it's better than DEMON LAIRD. Like I said, that was a little better than an okay read for me. I also picked up on of her paranormal contemporary romance books that was free a while back. I haven't read it as yet, but I was surprised to see that she had ventured out from historical. I wish she'd write another Medieval romance set in England; those are the ones by her that I absolutely LOVE!! BTW did you get a copy of HEART'S WAR? It's the one that follows HEART'S RANSOM. I don't think you ever read HW. I didn't own my own copy, but had borrowed it through Prime.

I did give it 3 and 1/2 stars and mentioned that at 70% the grey skies cleared up. Your going to have to weigh everything and decide. I went in blind and still went easy on it. Your book sounds like it may be a nice read but I hate a slow moving book. I'm going to work on the one you sent m today if I get a chance. I get off at 9 so we shall see. I'll work on Loch afterwards if the mood is still there. I did enjoy Awakening and you know I love a damaged H/h as long as it is not depressing. TTYL
I didn't bc I remember something holding me back before. I was looking at it but pulled back again I can't remember what was the turn off

What book you talking about now? The Loch one, or AWAKENING--which is the one that I loaned you? I will definitely read your review for Loch's book before I start reading it; only God knows when that will be now. I'm currently on an American historical kick while leaning towards CRs. LOL So when I'm done with this book it will either be another Western or a CR. I do know, however, that whenever I get back to the Highlands I will be stuck there for a while--that's the way it always is. The Highlands and Medieval England are my two favorite, I think, with Regency England following close behind.

You asked if I got heart's war by Loch. I got it after all. So we shall see. I didn't get a chance to read today. I want to kick back before I go to bed.

Ah yes. I remember. I thought it was great IF you already read the first book. I really don't think I would have liked it as much had I not read HR first. Of course I can't swear to that; it's an impression that I got. The couple from HR are featured very prominently in HW...and I do mean prominently! I've never seen the like, where a previous couple gets so much face time in a subsequent romance for another couple. I love them though, so I liked that part very much. Brynmoor and Rose are great, but they are no Talon and Gwen. LOL
I hope you like it whenever you read it. RU off today?

I am sort of excited to try her mist books but I think I'll probably break them up instead of back to back so they're more rnjoyable for me
RF I had a de jua va moment. Awakening starts out with the same opening scene. It has all three sisters in an open field. I actually went back to my home page to Make sure I had the right book. Lol. The second book seducing no doubt will do the same too. It is raining here. Blah. A great day to read and work. No doubt Rachel is working. Lol. Monday is my nieces bday so the girls in our family are going to lunch and a movie. She picked Pitch Perfect 2. The previews looked hilarious. I haven't seen the 1st one though so Amanda is bringing earlier in the day to watch. Hope u all have a great day. Hey Kate I hope everything is okay you've been MIA lately.

It's been a while since I've read AWAKENING so I forgot that's how it started. It's nice though that all three books begin the same. That way readers don't miss out on anything no matter which book they decide to begin with. It also clues readers in to the fact that the book they are reading is part of a series. I really love the fact that each is a standalone though. I can't stand the ongoing series.
Well you started with the first book in the MIST series and I read the second. I think the first book is unrelated to the others; at least it seems that way. Books 2 and 3 are related though; the H in book 2 is the brother of the Demon Laird H in the first book. LOL The brother plays a pretty big part in book 1. Also in book one unanswered questions were left regarding the h's background. She appears to be an English commoner, but there are clues that she's at least part Scottish and may not be common born at all. I was annoyed that that issue didn't get resolved in the book; maybe all will be revealed in book 3. I certainly hope so.
Ya, I too plan on splitting up the books when I read them. I might read book 3 next, then go back to book 1 before tackling the 4th and final one.

If all books are there own thing I think I may check out book descriptions and see which one sounds the best. Did you say u liked the second book.

I liked it, but didn't love it. Here's the link to my review. I had a couple of issues with the story.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-rev...
The events in book 2 definitely take place before the events in book 3, so I would read those two in that order. I don't know if book 4 is related at all, but from reading the blurb of book 1, that seems to be totally unrelated...I could be wrong though. Anyway, on the off chance that the unanswered questions re the h's heritage finally get answered in book 3, I'd read 2 two before reading book 3. Just a suggestion.

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. This first one is a pirate romance. The h is captured by the H, a pirate, when she is en route from her home in England to New Orleans to recover a priceless family heirloom.

LADY'S WICKED PROPOSITION is a short story. It's about a h who wants to find a rake to take her virginity. She confesses this secret to the H, who is a debauched gentleman, but he is torn between taking her up on her proposition or protecting her from herself. LOL FYI this is book 1.5 in the Wicked Liaisons series. The h and H from this book get their story in book 2 of the series. This book is really a prequel short story. It doesn't appear that book 2 is out as yet.
LORRAINE'S RELUCTANT COWBOY is a mail order bride romance about a h who is seeking adventure and excitement. She corresponds with the H for months then travels west to be his bride, but she kind of lacks housekeeping skills, among other things.
THE MIRROR is a time travel story about two nineteen year old girls who travel back to 1964 from the year 2020. They find love, heartache, etc.
WESTERN ROMANCE is an eleven page...book? It's about a H who falls in love with the on sight, but she is being pursued by a band of Sioux Indians.
BLACKSMITH'S PRIDE is another western romance. It's about a H who loves a h, but has nothing to offer her, but his love...at the time he's a blacksmith's apprentice. When he comes into possession of a blacksmith's shop, he decides to pursue her, but finds that he has competition...competition that will stop at nothing to get rid of the H.
HIGHLAND HUNGER is by Eliza Knight. This one has an unusual storyline. Here's the blurb...I just copied and pasted it here rather than trying to decipher exactly what it's saying.
An unclaimed land in the Scottish isles is ruled by the male and female victors in a series of war games every five years. Named Chief and Lady of the land, they rule the vast holding, and protect the people by divine right, until the next game begins.
After her brother's death Ceana is named laird. The only way for her clan to survive the ravages of the Highlands is to join in the war games. Bastard son of a powerful earl, Macrath is placed in the games by his vengeful stepmother. He must survive for the ultimate retribution.
Ceana can't afford to like the formidable, captivating, Highlander who seems to be following her, and yet she can't seem to walk away. Macrath wants nothing more than to protect the enchanting warrior lass, but doing so may get in the way of his need for revenge. What starts out as a race to survive turns into passion to endure together.
May the gods be forever in their favor...
Uh Oh, please be aware that HIGHLAND HUNGER is not a standalone romance. There are two other books in the series that continues the H and h's story. That doesn't necessarily mean that this book ends in a cliffhanger, however. One reviewer likened this story unfavorably to the HUNGER GAMES. She says it's pretty much HG with sex and found this book to be disappointing. That's just one perspective, however. All the other reviews are 4 and 5 star ones. There is no mention of a cliffhanger, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one. The impression I get, however, is that the romance, at least, gets resolved in this book.
That's it for today, ladies. Not a very impressive list, but what can you do? Some days we get lucky, other days, eh. Of course something from the list could prove to be unexpectedly good. TTYL!

BTW ladies, I just realized that the HIGHLAND HUNGER book that we have on our freebie list today is the entire novel...it was previously released as a serial novel. Actually we had part one of the serial, HIGHLAND HUNGER: GAME ONE, on a previous freebie list. I believe there were five parts to the serial...one for each game. The title on our list today includes all five parts. However, as I indicated before, there are two other books after this one that continues the couple's story...in this first book they win the games. They are named Chief and Lady of the Islands, a position the winner of the games maintains for a period of five years until the next games. Book two in the series, HIGHLAND SACRIFICE, follows the couple after they've one the games and are named the island's rulers.
RF did you see who I changed my profile picture to? Lol. I saw pitch perfect 2 and it was hilarious.

Highland hunger sounds a bit like the hunger games. It never really caught my interest very much. Did you get it Rf? Is it something that caught your fancy? I just got two of the free books from Kindlescout I nominated. I may read one of them after this one. I'm reading book 3 by Loch.

Damn, I've been forgetting about KS! I need to check them out today. I haven't been on the site for a while. Yes, I did see your new profile pic. You're a mess! LOL
No, I didn't get HG. It sounds like it might be good, but...I'm not sure. I just don't think I'd read it. The same is true with CAPTURING THE PIRATE'S HEART. It sounds good, but I'm not into pirate romances. Yes, one reviewer likened HH to THE HUNGER GAMES, and not in a good way. She says it was HG with sex. LOL Another person said it was a romance, but with more violence and action than the usual romance book. I passed.

Good morning, everyone. Here are a few freebies for today. So far I've only found one HR, so I've decided to peruse the CR section. This first book is a HR. It's about a h who elopes with the man she loves, her family's coachman, in order to avoid an arrange marriage.

FEELS LIKE HOME is about a h and H, childhood acquaintances, who find love. When the h's newly constructed life crumbles, she is forced to return to her hometown, where she was from the wrong side of the tracks. The H is a much sought after bachelor; a doctor.
COME AWAY WITH ME is a CR. It's about a h, who works as a security guard in the H's building. They meet when she mistakes him for an intruder.
WHERE YOU LEAST EXPECT IT is another CR. It's about a Navy SEAL H and his annoying next door neighbor. The h has insecurities about herself relating to her weight and other issues. The H is the "picture of masculine perfection." The h gets enjoyment annoying the H...that's the way their relationship begins.
UNDECLARED is a new adult contemporary romance. I read it and enjoyed it very much. So did Rachel. It's about a H, who is a marine, and a h who writes to him for the four years that he is in the service. The letters started out as part of an outreach program at the h's school, but quickly they became friends. When the H's deployment ended, he rejected the h's offer for the two to meet. Now two years later, the H is in attendance at the same college where the h is a student. He's come back...for her! There is a second book about the couple--a novella, I believe--but this first one can be read as a standalone. The second book is optional, if you want to follow the couple's life together after they achieve their HEA. I never read it.
That's it for today, ladies. I just cannot go through any more books in the CR section. It's such a chore trying to figure out which ones are serials, and which ones are standalones. Ugh! TTYL!
BE MY LOVE is another CR. It's about a h who decides to do a documentary film about an infamous feud between two families that live on Walker Island, the Petersons and the Walkers. The h is a Walker; the H a Peterson. The h is surprised to find that passions still run high when it comes to the feud. The H is not happy with the h's decision, but realizes he has no choice but to join her when it becomes pretty clear that she will not be deterred in her quest.

I just got home from midnights and there is no way I'm going to sleep. The sun is out and my dad is coming over to take a look at the kids computer. I am enjoying Loch's book. I really like the H he is nicknamed the hawk but you probably know that as you knew Demon was his brother. He lost his inheritance thanks to Robert Bruce and being a younger son can not wed. So he has these people he trains as spys and nicknames them as his birds. It's so sweet he calls the h his little sparrow. I just think that is the sweetest endearment but maybe it's the coffee talking. LMAO. Anyway she comes from an abusive father who beat her since her mother died when she was 5 and she is betrothed and on her way to meet said fiancée she gets abducted. The cheap a$$ deutsch bag only gives part of the ransom. Her abductors are so ticked off they decide they'll take the rest of their payment in trade and leave what's left of her at his gates. That is when the Hawk swoops in and saves her. As typical Loch he is warm and gentle wrapping her in his plaid and arms. She has fallen hard for him but has learned there could be no future. Her own future was rewritten by Aiden as he leaked word that her abductors killed her and so her father and betrothed thinks her dead. You just know at some point that will be uncovered but at present she is learning from hawk's best how to fight. I don't think dear old dad will be able to push her around when they meet back up. Anyhow that's what I know so far.

That sounds so good. Yes, I met the brother in the first book. I remember he's a master spy...gets information no one else can. I did like him...very much. As a matter of fact, there was a time in the book where I liked him more than that H. That sounds sad about the h in this story, but the book sounds like typical Loch...GOOD!
So you worked from midnight to what time this morning? That's a tough shift, and unless you work it on a regular basis, you never can get any proper sleep during the day time. I don't blame you for not bothering to sleep. If you're going to be home tonight, you might as well wait and go to bed early.
BTW I added another CR to the freebie list; just in case you've already checked it out.

Is it something that..."I got where you least expect it bc I liked the idea of two complete opposites. LK had a book called Suddenly You and I really liked it for the most part. The h is turning 30 and she is still a virgin. She believes herself to never marry and is an author. Anyhow she goes to a cathouse and applies to the madam and arranges a gentleman to come to her house so she can remedy her situation and learn about pleasure. Well the madam arranges a gent to show but he is not one of her men but an editor. So he shows up at her place with thoughts of doing business. They are both thinking different things for awhile but the H is taken with her and after awhile figures out why she thinks he's there. He toys with her. LK writes him as hot and charming and she is described as plump. He likes that about her and then to boot she 5 yrs older than him too. The main draw back that I tend to skip over when I reread it is when they finally have sex she pushes him away and then learns she is pregnant and instead of telling him she engages herself to this half witted dull stick of a man bc he's safe. When the H finds out he knows that baby is his and there will be non of this other man raising his child. It was cute I liked the couple but the h was insecure and that is why she goes for the safe guy and I hated that portion of the book. They did not have sex or anything but seriously after you have tasted a juicy steak why would settle for plain old rump roast. LMAO

Hahaha Rump roast? LOL You're a mess! Yes WHERE YOU LEAST EXPECT does sound good. The hot Navy SEAL guy with the BBW h, who is insecure. One of the reviewers said she liked the way he tried to get the h to feel better about herself.
We almost went to see AVENGERS this weekend. I say almost, because we got to the theater, but the time we wanted to see was no longer available. A friend was watching the kids, so we had a rare afternoon to ourselves. We ended up just going out to eat and doing a little shopping instead.

You didn't see Paul Blart Mall Cop? Lol. CH is really funny in this one he is really possessive over his hammer. I read that review too a few said it took some time to warm up to the characters bc she is mouthy and he is not attracted to weight thing at first. The language is harsh too but I can deal. After being on a marine base for two weeks foul language is reality. I was thinking of going back to read Demon bc I thought maybe I would be okay with it bc I do like healers but I will have to think about it a little more

You will probably like DEMON LAIRD more than I did because I know you really liked the healing aspect. The reminds me of Brenna in HEALING A HIGHLANDER'S HEART in that respect. It's one of the main things about the book that I did not like, all the healing! LOL
No I didn't see MALL COP!!! I wanted to. Actually, that was the movie we had initially planned to see, but when we went there was no movie for the time that we were there...even though online it said that there was supposed to be one. I don't know what happened. Anyhow, we then thought about AVENGERS, but it started too late.
Yes, in that book the h is said to have a potty mouth. LOL

Well as long as I have heads up I can prepare myself. Unless it's over the top I should be okay I think. Hannah Howell does a lot of healers in her books too and the some have other gifts too. I liked that aspect too. I just hope it doesn't go overboard with the healing like you thought. We've had different POV before so it may be okay with me. Only one to find out

Ya that's true. It's really hard to decide based on someone else's opinion. I don't know about the book overall, but I don't think the healing aspect will bother you as much. And don't forget, I did rate the book 3 1/2 stars, so it wasn't bad, not at all.

You are so lost, sister friend! LOL I'm not reading a CR; I'm reading a HR, a Western. It's about a H who is a U.S. Marshal. He and his sweetheart have been separated for five years while he worked on a future for the two of them. Now he's back; he's finally been promoted from Deputy USM to a full fledged one and has been assigned to his old hometown area. When he arrives he finds that the h has been arrested for murder. He's now bent on clearing her name; he pretty much has already; they know she didn't commit the crime, but there is fear that whoever did may come after her. The problem is that she cannot remember what happened. The scumbag did attack her before he was killed, but...
Anyhow, I've been reading that book since the 15th! Can you believe it? To be fair, I haven't had much chance to read over the past couple of days. I read a little on Sunday morning, and none at all yesterday. I plan on getting to it some time today. The problem is that I've been watching a lot of my true crime shows that I recorded on television. Sigh!
My hubby took the day off yesterday. It was our son's show and tell at school and parents were invited to attend. Then in the afternoon he had an "Olympic" event for his gymnastics class. It was pretty cool. He got his parents to himself for most of the day; I don't think he's ever had that luxury before. Poor tike. I told my husband that we need to do that more often; for each kid.
Well I'm off to clean up etc. I kept Lucian home today. I think he may have a stomach virus. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing. He was a bit disappointed to miss school because they had a field trip to visit a kindergarten class at the local school today. He didn't care about the school; he just wanted the ride on the school bus. LOL

Well you certainly had a domesticated motherly day yesterday. Neither one of my boys ever wanted to do sports or activities outside school. We tried but no go.
I can barely keep my books straight let alone yours. Lol. I know we both talked about those second chance books and that's what stuck. I do remember you mentioned the western now.
Elizabeth wrote: "Well you certainly had a domesticated motherly day yesterday. Neither one of my boys ever wanted to do sports or activities outside school. We tried but no go."
Say thank God for that! My son had gymnastics this year. I tried to enroll him for soccer, but they never seemed to get a class for his age group going. I didn't think it would work signing him up with the younger 4 year olds. He wants to do soccer next...and snowboarding! LOL As for my daughter, she's been in dance since she was 18 months old, minus a few short months absence, she's been doing it ever since. And yes, she's going back next year. Sigh! She also wants to take ice skating. My husband has been taking her to open skating recently, and she loves it, so we plan to let her take classes next year.
People around here are crazy with the after school activities. My nephews are enrolled in at least three sports each at any one time. They have practice almost every night during the week and their weekends consist of almost nothing but games. It's nuts! It almost seems as though it's a competition between the parents to determine whose kid can have the most activities!
I told my husband that ours can have two activities in any one school year, but that's it! They take up way too much time, energy, and effort!! Not to mention, my daughter has homework and other school things to attend to, so taking all those activities is just not a good idea. This year in addition to dance, she had CCD. On those two afternoons we had to scramble to get homework and the other evening routine done so she could get to bed at a normal time. I just don't want to have to be doing that all the time. I just found out that her dance class will be on Friday afternoons next year, which is good since she wont have homework that night. Ice skating will be on Saturday mornings.
Ya I hear you about keeping up with my reading...LOL I almost can't keep up with it myself, much less you doing so. Yesterday was a nice day. It was nice having Brian home for a change. He's taking another day off on the 27th. Our daughter has May Crowning at her school that day...in the morning, and our son's school's Spring Fest is in the afternoon. These end of school year activities are so time consuming! Ugh!

Yea my boys are hermits. I was too when I was younger. They get out on the 29th so this is their last full week of this year. I may read that seal book after this one. It's a good thing don't work with all your running around we'd never hear from you. Lol

Tell me about it! My son is a little bit of a hermit too. I love it because there is nothing I like more than staying at home. My daughter loves to be out and about. It was not good when she was little and at home with me; I was always having to take her places. With my son it's a dream. I'll say, do you want to go to the park/playdate/whatever, to which he invariably responds, "no thanks!" That makes me happy because I have done my job as a mother and still get to do what I want. No guilt! ROTFL
Wow! They get out of school early! My daughter's last day is June 18th. Lucian's is June 2nd, but he doesn't count because he's only in preschool. LOL My daughter's school has their "Fun Day" on June 12th. It's almost like a carnival that's thrown by the school with parent volunteers. They have all sorts of booths etc., including one where you try to dunk a parent in water by hitting a target...I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. LOL I can't volunteer because my son will be home with me and siblings are not allowed. The same was true for last year. She can't wait until he's in school with her next year because then I can volunteer more. Like I don't play on going back to work and having a life of my own. LOL

Our kids don't have a spring break. That is late around here to get out that late in June. Shoot yesterday when the kids got off this rogue deer was running around. It ran into a window and cracked it. Lol. Then starting chasing the kids back into the school. It ran into the glass a second time before it took off toward the elementary part of school. No one got hurt and it was actually really funny. My book just had Raven the lady spy who was teaching sparrow how to fight. The h thought they were after her but now the plot thickens. They probably still do want her but it's bigger than that. She is alone and vengeful. Aiden is worried bc they're MIA. It's getting really good
I don't know if any of you got the true alpha book 1 off freebie list a week or two ago but it's about wolves anyhow I read the first and found it unique. The boxed set of all 6 books are .99 just thought I'd throw that out there.

I don't remember that one. What's the title, if you know? I do like to read the odd werewolf and vampire romance. The one's I've read I have enjoyed.
That's sad about Raven. Why does the H think he can't marry, just because his inheritance was forfeit?

I don't remember that one being on our freebie list. I even checked the list I keep of all the books I've posted. So it's either you're going crazy, or I am? Which do you think I'm voting for? ROTFL Whatever the case, the book sounds intriguing. What a no brainer; you can buy each installment for .99 cents each, or you can get all six in one book for .99 cents. Ummm I wonder which one is more fiscally smart? I'm gonna have to think about that one! LOL Thanks for the tip!
I haven't read a single word so far today. This is getting out of hand!

You know once in a while my FB page has freebies maybe I got it from there and I'm just so use to them coming from your list. Lol. Oh well. I took a small nap. Just woke up.
They may not be for everyone. The first book the h is a shape shifter and she is in college. She part times as a bartender which is where she meets the H. He is on the prowl and just wants a quickie with a human. The thing is two wolves can not just have sex it doesn't work that way in their world. He lost his mate and blames himself for it. I don't think he's as hung up on her as much as holds himself responsible for it. The h is in love and is a target and it is the H who is trying to keep her safe

I read the synopsis for DARK ALPHA by the same author. That one sounds really dark; it's about a h who is mated to a "dark" wolf, but is in love with the H. He wants her too, but she's already mated; and mated to the brother of his Alpha to boot. Anyhow, the series is about him trying to find a way to break the bond she has with her mate. I think she was kidnapped from her family and forced to mate the other wolf; it sounds like her family wants her back. The story sounds good; good, but dark.

Yea it does sound good. Dark can be fun if it's not overly so. The villain in the books I told you about are reds and the one thing I asked myself was animals or dogs have a strong sense of smell. The H is alone with the h I thought myself he should have been able to smell what she was. Same with the villains they can't tell and speaking from an animal characteristic that should have been figures in. You know the female pheromones and such should be stronger bc nature demands it. I think maybe I got too logical about it though. I can't believe they have all the others .99 too. Probably going to go back to regular price tomorrow. I read it some time back and it is the best way bc the books leave with a cliffhanger and each one is dependent on the other.

That's MRS. Pescatore, Missie! LOL And yes, you are growing up. LOL It actually says a lot about the book that you found the romance satisfying without the need for anything else. The book I'm reading now seems a little slow; I'm not sure if it's me or the book because I had the same problem with SUMMER OF PROMISE. Sigh. That was a good book; well written, but a little slow, especially the romance.
This one the couple is already in love, but have been apart for FIVE years, while the H was preparing for a future together. He wanted to marry her earlier, but her guardian and others convinced him to wait; she was too young and he needed to have a way to support her. Now he's back; she's accused of murder and he's trying to clear he name. Well they pretty much know she didn't do it because of the circumstances, but there is a fear that the real killer may come after her because she can identify him; right now she has no memory of the event. The love is there, but the two need to adjust to having each other around again after being apart for so long.
