Sad to say Brian knows how I am so he wasn't the least bit surprised when I said that. He just rolled his eyes and said "yeah right." LOL
The Jaws game does sound fun. Attacking people is right up my alley. LOL I love the Avengers game because I get to kick peoples' butts.
Well I'm off the bed now. With the darn time change I'm sure I'm going to be a wreck in the morning. Sigh!

NEVER TURN AWAY is the last in the six book Kellington series. We've had a couple of the other books on our list, including the first one NEVER A MISTRESS NO LONGER A MAID.
CAROLINE'S LOVE is a repeat; we had it on our freebie list back in November. I added it in case anyone, who may be interested, missed it back then.
Wow, I see a couple more people have read and loved that book THE WRONGED WIFE...remember the one with the wife beating H who killed her unborn baby and left her scarred and unable to have any more children, all because he refused to believe his brother raped her? Ya, that one! Two other readers thought it was a great read! No wonder we have many women running back to their abusive spouses; some women actually believe such behavior is defensible. Ugh!
DIVINERS PROPHECY is an ongoing trilogy. The first book is free, but you have to buy the other two to finish out the story. I only included it because I see that the complete trilogy is currently available in a box set for .99 cents. So, if you think this is a book you'd like to read, check that out on the author's Amazon page.
LEANNA is a short story Highland romance. It's only about thirty pages in length.
EBONY is the second book in the Medieval Guardians series. We had the first book, CRIMSON, on our freebie list back in December.
LADY MARIAN is a novella that is based on the Robin Hood legend; it has a twist with Lady Marian being married to another.
CELTIC SHORES has been a one a prior freebie list; however, this title is listed as a SECOND EDITION. Presumably any issues with the first edition has been resolved. I remember there being a number of complaints in reviews re poor editing. What I don't get is that the page number listed for this new edition is about half the number of the first. Weird, huh?
I'm not sure about ISOLDE'S WISH; sounds a little fantasy-like to me.
UNMASK MY HEART is a Roman romance set in the year 1756. The story may actually take place in Venice. The h is a Roman princess; the H a member of an aristocratic Venetian family.
That's it for today, ladies! I hope you all find something to whet your appetite. TTYL!

By the way she's dreaming of Thor is say he'll make her better. She may get a little hot but its all part of the experience. Lol thanks for the list
Haha Yes, I'm doing much better. Thanks for asking! I haven't taken any of the motion sickness medicine, but so far the humming in my ear has lessened over the past few days. I haven't had any occurrences today, and yesterday it only happened a couple of times--maybe three--so that's definitely an improvement. That first day it happened several times, as well as Friday, but since Saturday I've noticed that it's been decreasing. I'm hoping I just got some water in my ear--although I don't know how that would have happened without me noticing.
You're both welcome regarding the list. I'm hoping the NEVER title is a good one. It's the love story of the police inspector/bow street runner who was introduced in book one when that h's grandfather was murdered and the second Kellington son became a suspect--he was the hero in that book. Anyhow, the inspector became a friend of the Kellington and has made appearances in a few of the book since book one. I was happy to see that he too would be getting a story--even though he isn't a Kellington.
Yes EB, my dreams of Thor have proven very therapeutic. ROTFL

Okay so I finally had the time to look over the list. I finished Keira Montclair's book and I posted my review. I liked her book and it was different from her previous stories. For one it was a contemporary but she still brought in old characters. Well off to the next. CH was on SNL on the weekend. Did you watch? I missed it but saw previews on FB. That bit about peeps giving good reviews for wronged wife is pathetic. I told my niece about it and she got pissed off like we did. LOL I'm like and that's the right answer it is NEVER ok for a man to hit a woman let alone leaving a scar. It is NEVER ok that a woman be grateful he wants her back several years later without even an apology your going to lead your reader's believe she has never stopped loving him? People say FSOG is scary bc young girls may read and be influenced well what message does this send out?

I totally agree with you, EB. It's sad really that some women find this behavior forgivable. I'm all for giving second chances, but there has to be a commitment to change; steps taken towards changing, not just words. Now that I have a daughter I do look at the books I read in a different light. So many of them portray women as weak, sex-crazed individuals with little or no self-respect or sense of self.
I read a review for a new adult romance the other day, the h is in college. She is described as being innocent and naive, but wants to change that image. Anyhow, her behavior with the H is beyond disgustingly shameless. She cries for him to kiss her. There is one point where she's at his place--he's her brother's roommate--where he's just had sex with another girl. He and the half naked female comes out of his room. He's sweaty, reeking of sex, yet the h finds him sexy and wants him in that moment! WTF?! I was so disgusted! And this is a NEW ADULT romance?! Is that what the younger generation find romantic nowadays?
I can see that Hannah and I have to have some serious talks as she gets a little older. Hopefully, she will learn from my behavior. I take no crap from my husband; not that he ever tries to give me any. But I hope she uses him as a model when she gets older and starts to date. Sigh

Do you think authors study the behavior of certain girls and write in an attempt to appeal to them and sell more books. Your daughter will want a husband like her own dad. She'll follow your example. So far all of my nieces (4 of them). Even my one niece that does not get along with her mother, never sees her is a split image behavior wise. She'll be strong.

WHAT IS LOVE may not be a good choice. There are only four reviews, but both OLT and LMN11 two reviewers that I read, gave it only 2 stars. Anyhow, you can check it out for yourselves if you like. EB, I don't think it's our kind of book at all, based on LMN11's review.
DREAM UNFOLDING is a western. The H and h are both traveling west. The h is happily married. The H is moving west to start a ranch I believe. Now, I have labeled these two individuals as the H and h, but I honestly don't know if they become a couple at some point, or if this is really a book with two storylines. I plan to download the book to figure it out and I will let y'all know. Of course none of the reviews give any pertinent info about this aspect. Ugh!
One review was labeled SPOILER and then she proceeded to give stupid info that was not in the least bit spoilerish. Such a waste!! I understand that a lot of people don't give spoilers in reviews, and I"m cool with that. I wish those same people would have the same respect for those of us who do give spoilers, but I digress. I hate people who label their reviews with a Spoiler Alert, but then fail to give any spoiler information. What's up with that?!
MY COUSIN JEREMY sounds like a story about some seriously star-crossed lovers. They are cousins who fall in love, but learn a secret that keeps them apart--wanna guess they learn they are supposed to be siblings? That's just a guess on my part. Anyhow, they get married to other people...at least the H marries another and when they finally learn that they are free to be together, the H's wife refuses to let him go. The story is set around the time of The Great War. When the heck was that war? I confess I'm rusty on this particular period in history. Sigh

I certainly hope so. My father was abusive. He beat up my mother a lot when we were kids. I remember me and my middle brother having to remove the youngest out of the room where they'd be fighting. It was very traumatic. Years later, my first boyfriend was a lot like my dad. He never hurt my physically, but he was mentally controlling. I was the only who used to like to hit and throw things...the cycle of violence. Sigh! I remember my mother telling me that she didn't like him because he reminded her too much of Dad. I didn't like that and refused to listen to her.
Anyhow, I finally found the strength to break away and started dating my husband. He was so normal, so emotionally healthy; I couldn't believe that there really were people like him out there. After we dated a few months I started counseling. That's what really helped me. I totally understand being stupid for a man; I've been there. I guess most of us have at least one experience in that area, but the main thing is to learn from your mistakes. As much of a jerk as my ex was he never laid a hand on me, nor did he put me down verbally or otherwise. He just liked to control me. I like to think that no matter what my background I wouldn't have stood for any physical violence, but who knows?
I'm just glad I got out and got healthy. My children are so spoiled to having parents who are in accord with each other that when we have a play fight, or get into a heated discussion--nothing serious--my son will say, "stop fighting!" I usually roll my eyes and laugh at him. He has no idea what it's like to have fighting parents!!! It makes me happy that they have no experience with anger or violence in the home. It's at least one thing that I've given to them.

I'm sorry to here about your childhood. I take for granted the one I had but you have come a long way. It is usual to continue the cycle it's nice to know some break free from that. I did not get any of the books this morning. They didn't appeal to me. The review I read for the one book was talking about the h being raped by the H and later forgives him. Whatever sounds like what we were just saying. How is that romantic? They should go into its own category.

Haha I actually don't think it was the H that raped the h...at least based on one review it sounded like the H and h forgave the man who had raped the h. I'm gonna download and do a little investigation.
Here's amtmcm's review. That's my friend Ann. We share the same taste in books for the most part. She gave it 3 1/2 stars. The H is not the rapist. It's another individual who, apparently, is redeemed by the end of the book. The first review is misleading. I hate when people do that. I hear what she's saying about rape being rape and not easily forgiven, but doesn't our religion teach us to forgive? We are also told that to hold on to a wrong against you ends up poisoning your life. If nothing else one has to let go. God knows it takes time and effort, but eventually it can happen and then and only then can you move on. But I'm getting off point here. The way she writes the review I too got the impression that the H was the rapist. It's one thing to forgive someone who raped you--assuming you could--it's another to then have a relationship with him. I'm sorry, but I would not be going there!

Okay ladies, it is as I thought with the title DREAM UNFOLDING on today's freebie list. The H is Will; the h, Hannah. In the beginning of the story Hannah is happily married to another man, but when the story ends she and Will are a couple. Considering they are traveling out west by wagon train I don't think it would be a stretch to think that her husband, a doctor, died somewhere along the journey. By the way, if I didn't say this before, it's a Christian romance.
IDK RF I know your right you have to have forgiveness for yourself but the review was like you said misleading. I am glad it wasn't the H. That was what was messed up to me. I finished a book from the list yesterday A lot of pride and some prejudice and was so pissed which I unleashed a little in my review. It has a cliffhanger and I am so pissed. I think now that I got my $50 GC I'm going to check out some books that I was holding back on.

Yes, I kind of got carried away earlier when I was talking about forgiveness. It's easier said that done in a lot of circumstances. But since as I knew the H wasn't the rapist to me the whole forgiveness issue was moot. That reviewer made it seem like it the h forgiving her rapist was so unacceptable. That's kind of ridiculous when most of us strive to be able to forgive. LOL That's why her review is so misleading because IMO the only reason to be so against forgiveness if if the H had been the one to do the raping. I mean had he been the rapist I'd be all for forgiveness, but a relationship with him? That's a whole other story!
OMG! I'm so sorry about A LOT OF PRIDE! I had no idea it ended in a cliffhanger. I try hard not to include those books, or if I do I like to at least give a heads up so you all are aware before deciding whether or not to download a book. That sucks! But honestly that's one of the reasons why I make doubly sure to read the end of books nowadays before I start reading them. Too many damn authors are going with this cliffhanger bull! That is especially true in contemporary romance. I can't tell you how many times I'd find a book I really want to read only to realize that it is one of two or more books before the story ends. Ugh!
Well have fun spending your GC. I'm still jealous!!

You have nothing to apologize about. I read the authors synopsis and then read the first review and there was no mention. I didn't flip to the back bc it was short and it had a suspense thing so I wanted to take that journey and try to figure it out. while the letters saved her from making a mistake it really served no purpose bc I wanted it to be the H. My big bitchin my review was the fact that there is no mention of a cliffhanger. That is the shit I am pissed off about. Oh bc it's free it's ok to leave that out. I hated the H when he confessed a suspicion I had in the beginning bc it was so stupid in the end. I am reading another freebie from yesterday and it is cute so far but I guess I should flip to the end first. LOL My WIFI is acting funkie and I'm too lazy to fiddle with it right now. I am just mad it seems to be the latest thing and to leave it out to me is trickery and that's not how to make a loyal fan IMO.

But that is exactly why I'm sorry. I usually read through a few of the reviews, though most often none will mention a cliffhanger. Don't you find it strange that no one mentions a cliffhanger when the book summary doesn't say there is one? Wouldn't you think that would tick people off? I'm always suspicious when that happens, but IMO, it's one indicator that the reviews to date are from family members, friends, or "professional" reviewers. Otherwise why wouldn't someone mention the cliffhanger?
Another trick I learned is to check the books listed beneath the one I'm checking out...the "customers who bought this item also bought" section. Usually if the book is part of a series other book will be listed. I then will click on the next book in the series and read the summary to determine who the protagonists are. If they are the same people then I know it's an ongoing series and is a pretty good indicator that there is a cliffhanger. Ugh

Well I'm just not sure you should take that all on yourself. I mean I could have glanced a little longer at more reviews. The first one read like I was golden and after reading the book I disagreed with the feel of it. I haven't wrote a nasty review in a while so I my time was due. The author also had trouble with the word sit. She would say he came in and took a sit. What? He came over and seating. Something to that effect. It happened quite often and drove me crazy. So many things annoyed me. I'm reading Ebony Ebony from yesterday's list. Either way I never thought for a minute that it was your fault.

Oh I know you don't blame me. LOL I just get annoyed when something slips by me. Ugh! This is especially true because I usually make those checks. I must have overlooked them that day. Anyhow, how is EBONY going? Did you get the first book in the series when we had it for free? It's CRIMSON. I'm almost done with One & Only then I plan to start the one Kate loaned me, Captured by a Laird. The one I'm reading has such a fantastic storyline, but the delivery is poor. Sigh! It reads like a first book, but I see the author has written quite a few. Maybe this was the first one she ever wrote, I don't know, but it needs some serious editing. Not to mention she's made a few gaffes with the story itself. I'll still give it 3 stars though, because it's been pretty entertaining. LOL

I think I read that one the cover is very familiar. It is really cute I love the H he is a jokester and likes to tease the h. I love a playful H. Sense of humor is sexy with in its self

Yes we had that one on the list too, but that's a different series...at least I think it's a series. Anyhow, EBONY is one in a series about those guards or protectors, or whatever they are. How's it going so far? It sounded interesting.
Which book has a jokester H, the CAPTURED one?

The cover of the book you are reading has been used on Highland Rake. I recognized it and thought I'd already read it I'd bring it up in my review if I were you. I did the last time I did a review and the cover was used before.
Well it's worse than I thought. Someone messaged me on my review on A Lot Of Pride and Some Prejudice. Apparently that was the end and there is no sequel. I was like WTF. Brave for the author and also dumb. A romance with no romance and no HEA. Sucks! I can not express clear enough to stay away. I revised my review to fit what I just learned.
Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. To start us off is yet another Shirley Kennedy freebie. We've had a few of hers on our lists lately.

VIOLET is another title in the Rayburn Park series. We've had two or three other books from that series on our list in the past..for example, YOUNG BUCKS OF RAYBURN PARK. The author added a funny comment in the book blurb; you should check it out. I guess readers have complained that she doesn't add in certain aspects in her stories and she commented on why she purposely does that. LOL
COLLECTION OF ROMANCES is a collection of seven short stories. It was on our freebie list back in December. I figured I'd add it again just in case anyone missed it back then.
In EVENING STAR the characters are Native American. At least that's the way it looks from the cover and the names of the characters as listed in the blurb. However, I cannot say for certain that the story is set in the US.
SEDUCTION AND MASHED POTATO is set in 1960's England. The h is a cookbook and romance writer; the H is a publisher.
Wow! I read the blurb for EDWARD'S HEART and it sounds fascinating! It's a time travel romance. The H is from 1600's France; the h is an modern day American. The H travels through a mirror into the present. I just gotta make sure this one does not end in a cliffhanger. Remember what happened to EB yesterday!! Okay so I checked, there is another book; however, from what I read although the H and h from book one is in the second book, it seems as though their romance is resolved in book one. I read the beginning of book 2 and the H and h are married and about to have baby number 3. LOL
Book two deals with more people who time travel via the mirror, and yes the H and h become involved because of their experience with the mirror. Book 2 is on a countdown deal right now. For the next 19 hours it will be on sale for $1.99, down from $3.99. There is also a third book continuing the story of the mirror. FYI, these are all available through KU.
VIKING FOR HIRE involves magic. The H is cursed; every woman who touches him falls instantly and falsely in love with him. The h is called to reverse the spell, but there's a problem; she has drunk a potion because she feared she was going to be arrested for witchcraft..so will she too fall victim to the curse? LOL

What? So how did the bloody book end? I'm confused. BTW I own CRIMSON if you'd like to borrow it. It's the book before EBONY.
BTW I got the book you sent me to look at on Amazon! OMG doesn't he look like CH? I've seen that before and noticed that. Makes me wanna buy it. ROTFL! The book I'm reading now isn't bad. The storyline is really good, but the book could with some serious editing. Sigh!

The book ended with the H/h standing together at a window watching a sunset together. They both spoke with their eyes but knew it would end tomorrow and that was bc he was to get married tomorrow. Now you see why I thought there was a sequel. Stupid. Ok tTYL

WTF?! So THEY are in love, but he's marrying someone else the next day and THAT'S the way the book ends?! What was the point of all the angst between them then? Such a waste!

That's the way I took it and am totally confused. I am liking ebony and should finish today. I'll check out Crimson when I get home

Not books I was talking about message in a bottle and premonition. They were both disaster movies of little more than a sad note there at the end. I mean premonition with Sandra Bullock was so disgusting at the end that even the thought pisses me off and MIAB I know Kevin Costner dies but not much else. I just remember that I never wanted to see it again. So that is my update on everything I got my WIFI working and after I feed the boys and hubby will check out Crimson. I hope hat covers everything. LOL Total waste of time that a lot of prejudice book. I never heard anything back BTW from the person who told me there was no sequel. I wonder if they were pissed off too.

Umm that book got so many good reviews that I had to wonder. Anyhow, the book I just finished I ended up giving 2 1/2 stars. I really wanted to give it 3, but honestly by the time I got to the end I was happy to be done with it. Right up to the last few chapters I felt like I could honestly give it 3, but then it dragged on too long. Or rather, my patience with the story ran out. LOL

I actually agree with what she said but I held my ground. I believe that my review even though it was on the bitchy side will serve others. I said nothing false but I pointed out the problems I had with the book and I think others can form their opinion along those lines. She was explaining the approach the author was trying to achieve and I get that but ok there was this book called Wedded Blissand I hated it because the dude carried on with a mistress while he was married. Lark liked it but that's what she attempted to tell me how it was arranged and in those days it was common. I believe he held it over the h head how he saved her and she should just be grateful but seriously I was to mad to care. LOL I'm such a brat. No I do understand what Lark was trying to say I do but I....well you know how I am about mistresses and such. The cover on the book was such a beautiful image IMO and when I got it I thought it will be old fashion and romantic well it was old fashioned just not the direction I wanted. I read Larks review and thought I would read it based on her review and that to me isn't necessarily a good thing. I know authors want all the good things highlighted but it is just as important to write the bad too. If it's a good read you overlook things right? We all have at times. Lark loves her as an author but I have just been too scared to attempt another book from her. I got one out from the library and was going to read it but I think I was only doing that to try to have a similar experience that Lark did with her writing. Unfortunately we can't all see things the same way. Infidelity has always been a big problem for me to read. It shades the character, which is funny bc I watched the Forsythe Saga and the main guy I liked left his wife and went with the governess of his daughter. His wife accused him of having an affair with her and he never had but he was in love with her bc his wife was awful. I think that's what made it different for me he was honest with her #1 and the governess was much more likeable than the h. I did get confused bc he went on to have kids by the governess and yet never attempted to see his first daughter until years later. Okay I'm going to shut up now. LOL

I hear what the commenter was saying; yes the story as written is realistically portrays the behavior or most men during that time period. That being said, that doesn't mean that a reader has to like it. There are many authors who write books and choose to have the hero behave differently. You didn't say that the book was historically inaccurate, you said you didn't like the way the author portrayed the H and felt like he hadn't developed enough by the end of the book.
For the most part I feel the same way you do about infidelity and promiscuity. However, I have read books where either or has been included and have enjoyed them. It all depends on how the author presents it. For instance, in this book, IF the heroine is not a doormat, but enacts a suitable revenge against the hero AND he is made to suffer enough to satisfy me, then I'm good with him being an ass. See how picky I am? ROTFL
I'm also okay with mistresses so long as there is no sexual contact between the hero and said mistress once a relationship is established between the H and h. If they marry and then immediately separate, and the hero continues with affairs I can forgive that--again it depends. For example where they are forced to marry, go their separate ways for a few years, then reconcile for whatever reason. However, once they come together, not necessarily having sex, but are establishing a relationship, I cannot overlook sex with another. It has a certain ick factor for me.
A mischief making mistress can be a delicious addition to a story, especially where the H is trying to, or thinking about getting rid of her, and does NOT have sex with her. LOL A good example that comes to mind is Virginia Henley's A Year and a Day. The H and h handfasted. The h is the daughter of the H's steward; the serving class. He makes an agreement with the father that if she conceives he will marry her; she will then be a future countess. He still has a mistress and when he comes back from war, she arrives with him; his sister is also with them. At this point the mistress has no idea that he is handfasted. She tries to cause problems, and the H has no interest in sleeping with her. Instead he keeps mentally comparing her unfavorably to the h. I loved that book. So much so that I paid FULL PRICE for an e-copy, even though I still have my hardcopy at my mother's house. LOL
BTW your review for ELUSIVE WIFE is very good. I actually have that book. Not sure I'll read it now. Why read something that's more than likely to tick me off? LOL I also remember WEDDED BLISS. I never read it, but I remember when you and Lark were discussing it back and forth. Usually when I hear mistress, I go in the other direction. It's not that I necessarily wont like the book, but why tempt fate? There are way too many other books for me to enjoy.
BTW Kate, please note that I am about to start CAPTURED. There are children in the story; not one, but TWO! Also, these children are not the H's, but the h's. Remember when y'all gave me a hard time about not wanting children in my stories; I also prefer that if there are children they belong to the H, rather than the h. See how open minded I am? ROTFL!

She just said Victorian HR tend to have H such as the one in EW. It's a good tip bc I do not want a repeat but if reviews are honest that should help as well. I don't want to do Crimson just yet I am in the mood for a good villain but can't find any. So I think I may do HRT series Zoe and his name escapes me.
Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. This first one is by Claire Delacroix. It's the first book in her Bride Quest series. I've never read this one, but I have read the second book, The Beauty, which I thought was quite good. I read that book many years ago.

I got Hunted with Clay and Zoe (HRT). I'm off today and tomorrow but my hubby goes to his Drs today and they read his metronics. That's his defibrillators name they have to read it to see if everything is working properly.
He guys there is a new girl that may want to join in with us her name is Rachel. We were talking on one of my reviews and her tastes in romance books are similar to all of ours. Hope you all see this soon and we can have a pow wow. LOL I miss that. We all are scattered lately with our separate lives.
Hello ladies! I am new to this group and can't wait to discuss books with you guys!! I am currently reading Then Came You and loving it!!! ;D
Also, just so you all know, I have many books "shelved" very specifically. For example, I have a shelf that says "no ow/om 100% safe" which means just what it says, no other woman or other man in the book at all, which of course, is my preference! So feel free to browse! I also have been starting to make my reviews with several spoiler tags for certain triggers, because goodness knows I have several myself haha

I have them separated on my Kindle by Scot's, British, Contemporaries and shorties but I like how yours is precisely to the point. I'll have to check it out.

I hate when the h and H are being stubborn. But when they have sex I want the H to be committed, if not actually then at least mentally. He must claim this woman at least within his mind. None of this mess about...oh I'm going to sleep with her, I have feelings for her, but I'm going to commit to someone else. I hate that!
I can totally relate to the bloody storm and losing power, but I have no experience with the HOT sexy guy showing up with candles! ROTFL.
BTW we got my son a Wii U for his birthday. We were playing The Avengers game in which you get to pick certain characters to be on your team and you fight the bad guys. I said something about not wanting Thor on my team or some such...I can't quite remember. Anyhow, my hubby says I thought you wanted to be Thor and I was like "I never said I wanted to BE Thor, I said I wanted to DO Thor!!!! ROTFLMAO! He didn't appreciate my response. Oh well!
