Did you just move the post peeve discussion to this topic ma'am? LOL. This link was getting so long I started another. Anyhow the mistress on the side is a HUGE pet peeve for me. Hate the self pitying h too. I'm headed out the door. Have a nice day. TTYL!

Ok guys, so I'm reading The Dreamer for the third time. Granted I'm not reading it cover to cover this time, but I absolutely LOVE that book! Has anyone else read it? It's by the husband/wife writing team who go by the name, May McGoldrick. Anyhow, just throwing it out there, if anyone wants to read it, it's a "loanable" title.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments The haunted house was a bust. My younger son Josh had a 24 hour bug and was throwing up. Good old Ohio also pulled through and we had sleet so either way it wasn't happening. I used the time to read and am 20% through the book but I'm reserving all opinions until the 11th. Have we decided on a time? Is Kate in on the event? Hellllooooo Kate! LOL.

I have never read the Dreamer but I looked it up and was interrupted by an up chucking boy so I'll check out the reviews later on. Okay ladies I'm going back to my book hope everyone has a great evening.

Kate, if you want to borrow DREAMER, it's yours. Just let me know. I LOVED that book. I also have ANGEL OF SKYE. That's another good one. Believe it or not, I got both books when they were freebies. I've gotten some jewels as freebies!

I'm with you on the pet peeve number one...actually the whole girl acting as a boy for any length of time is just plain ridiculous in my book. Especially as these women never seem to cut their hair and they sure didn't have wig nets back then. I'm supposed to believe that a curly beaver hat, or whatever, can securely contain waist length hair?! Stupid!

Did you say your granddaughter is FOUR? And then the boys are now eighteen, twenty and twenty-two? Wow, Kate! You're a saint in my book!

I'm reading Highland Solution. I'm about seventy percent in. Just started it today. Good book, although there's been a few times I've wanted to knock some sense into the H.

BTW, no I haven't read BORROWED DREAMS as yet, but I do own it..anther freebie. It's on my TBR list. Is it a medieval or highland novel? If it is, I'll probably read it next.

Geez Kate, you've definitely got your hands full! As for borrowing, all I need is your email address. Amazon will send you an email with a link to the book where you download it. It's that simple. It's a little more complicated to loan...just a few more steps, but still easy. Headed to bed now. It's almost three a.m. I'm on the east coast too...Boston area. Gnite!

Good morning, ladies! Hey Kate, I agree with you 100% re HIGHLAND SOLUTIONS. The h is wonderful, but the H is a clunch-head! I just want to grab him by the neck and knock him upside the head, he's so dumb at times. My gosh! His brother Fingal is obviously the intelligent one. Not that I don't like the H, because I do...he's just so stubborn and trusting, especially for someone who is so suspicious!

The man who steals the book for me is Tadhg...the laird of the clan who is supposedly raiding the H's land. I LOVE him! I checked and he's the H in the author's next book, Highland Courage. You know that's on my Want to Read list!! He'll make a better H I think, than Niall. Poor Niall, I think the author just made him a shade too naïve for an H. But, for me too it's a 4 star read--maybe 4 1/2 stars. I really, really like it. I mean, by God, it kept me up until 3 a.m.! I better like it! LOL

What I really love about it is the fact that the story focuses on the relationship and how they deal with the difficulties of an arranged marriage between strangers. I think the romance is nice, and even when the H acts like a dope, I love the fact that the h can fairly quickly make him see reason. I also like the way he's has no problem admitting when he's wrong and take action to right the wrong.

I think I'm so willing to forgive him because I can see the little boy inside of him. Even though his stepmother is such a bitch it seems like a small part of him was still trying to earn her love, and I understand why he was so distrusting of women due to his past. But still, I think he's a simpleton too many times! And how about that bitchy step-mother?!

What I hated about the book is the fact that her uncle never got his just deserts. That just plain rankles. I was hoping to read where he had at least been set up and killed by brigands or some such. Bastard!

Here are a couple more freebies. I was in a rush this morning, so the list isn't very long. I'll take the time this week to go through and see what I've already posted and figure out what's left. There's some stuff that is pretty much always free on Amazon, while there are others that are periodically free. The real treasures are the ones that are free for one time only and then they are gone. Usually Amazon offers them for free for a few days and then voila! It's gone! Those are the ones I try not to miss. LOL Anyhow, these two are new ones. Both sound pretty good, although not a regency or medieval. I think they are both American historical.

K~ It's simple to burrow. Just give your email address to RF or whoever. They can send it to your e mail. You just open it and click on the link that says read now or deliver one of those and it will appear on your kindle. To lend you go to Amazon and click on manage the content of my device. You go to the book you want to lend and go to the 2nd column to the left for that book and when you click the choice comes up to loan title. Then it prompts you through it. You just need the persons e mail address.

Hey EB, I'm not sure who this comment was directed toward. LOL A book where the couple is forced to marry because the H was in the wrong bed that comes to mind is THE DREAMER. Actually THEY weren't forced to wed. The H forced the h to marry him and by forced I mean he literally had her dragged in front of the priest. LOL The h was traveling to his home with his fiancée and switched beds at the fiancée's request. the H arrived unexpectedly and got into bed with the h. When he discovered that not only was he in bed with the wrong h, but that HIS fiancée was in bed with another man, he decided to wed the h. As bad a start as the marriage got off to, the romance was absolutely adorable.

Is that the one you were referring to? Let me know and I'll send it out. I'm home all day except to dash out and pick up the kids from school. I'm preparing for me CCD class today.

I like to split mine up sometimes like RF because sometimes an author's writing style can tend to go stale and if you split them up it makes them better. Hey, miss Noreen did you like the Twilight series? Those books I've read but look what was center stage...Edward and Bella and a dangling Jacob. The vampire and wolf thing are out of my system though. Once down that road was enough.

Oh lord, I forgot our date. LOL BTW, my in laws are messing with my plans. They will be coming down and bringing some stuff that we need to put away in our storage unit. I have no idea what time they plan or being here, nor how long the whole process will take. I'm so annoyed because they just announced they're bringing the stuff down this weekend, with no regard to any plans we might have had. My husband got an earful I can tell you that!

Anyhow, that brings me to my point, are we planning on making this a "live" event, or can we just post our thoughts as we get notice of new comments? I will try to keep up using my phone as best I can if I'm not home.

I am available on Friday. What does everyone else think?

My daughter has the day off, so I might try to hang with her in the morning. My son will be at preschool and it's never happened before that she's home and he's at school, so I'm sure she'll want to make it special. Monday is a holiday, if that works for anyone else? Or I can make Friday afternoon. I'm flexible too, so we can see what works best for everyone. I know weekends can be henkie for some.

BTW have you started DREAMER as yet? I have yet to begin HEALING and I refuse to start it now. It's almost 8 p.m. here and if it grabs me I'll want to be up until midnight. I had a pretty annoying day. The pharmacy messed up on my prescription, so I had to go pick up a couple of pills to tide me over and call the doctor's office to get an updated script. Then I hit a sidewalk and busted my tire, so now I have to pay out $140 for a new tire to replace one that was just about brand new itself! Of course they didn't have it in stock and so had to order it. I'm so annoyed!

Then, the washing machine fell down on top of my arm so now it hurts like the dickens. Having to get the tire situation taken care of resulted in me not completing my prep for my class tomorrow AND now I have to go sit and wait while they put the new tire on tomorrow. Ugh! All of this means I DID NOT get to read today!!!!

Good morning, ladies! So to top off my lovely day yesterday my four year old wet the bed last night, something that he never does. So at 2 a.m. this morning I was up changing the bed, cleaning him up, etc. Of course, after all of that I couldn't go back to sleep. Please, please, please tell me that my torture is done! LOL

Anyhow, my morning will be chock full of extra crap today so the freebie list will be short today. There's one or two that have either never been free, or haven't been in a while. Hope you find something you like.

I see you've listed Julie Garwood as one of the authors who has influenced your writing. She happens to be one of my all time favorite writers. I'm not sure how the other members feel about having an author join our group. I personally don't care. Just be warned that you might get an earful if we end up reading one of your books.

Chime in ladies and give me your thoughts.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Noreen~ I guess you did like Mackinnon's Bride if you've moved to the next in the series. BTW I love a spirited h. They are the best especially when they baffle the H and he doesn't know what to think or do with her. Love it. I just read a short book yesterday called Rebel it was one of the free ones yesterday anyhow it was funny because the h dressed as a man. LOL! We were just talking about that. It was ok because she was not a mystery for long. It was believable too because of the action that was going on at the time. I was thinking I may try to read one of your style of books so that we all get the full enjoyment of this sight. Now what would you suggest? I burrowed Dreamer from RF so you think while I finish this gem. LOL

I've read a few Hannah Howell's, but she's hit or miss for me. Not because of the writing or anything like that, but because of the sex. She hits one of my top pet peeves too often--heroine hopping into bed with H too soon. I hated her UNCONQUERED for that reason.

The h was Saxon, the H a Norman invader. She was his captive and willingly slept with him the very first day they met...and no he didn't force her. As a matter of fact, he had made her angry and was sure he'd have to pay for it. But no, instead she happily welcomed him into their bed. Ugh! I was thoroughly disgusted with her. I was ok with the sex between them, but it happened way too fast and she was way too willing. I also found her attitude towards him and the invasion unrealistic. He was an invader, responsible for tearing apart her people and way of life and she just kept making excuses for him. It was beyond annoying. IMO there was no build-up of feeling between them, which made everything feel fake. I could see if they'd had time to get to know each other and the h felt the way she did, but that's not what happened. I actually quit that book--and I almost NEVER do that! After I quit, I did a quick run-through so I could write an informed review.

On the other hand, I loved her HIGHLAND CONQUEROR! That was an amazing read for me. So, with Howell I'm very careful about the books I pick for her. I read the blurb and a bunch of reviews before deciding.

I got my tire fixed and am home. It took less than fifteen minutes. Gotta love a small town. That would never have happened in Los Angeles. Even with an appointment I would've waited forever for them to fix it.

message 91: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments RF~ Glad to hear you got your tire fixed. Where I live there is a car garage whose pretty popular cattycornered from my house so I can drop my car off and come back home while I wait. I'm so spoiled. LOL! I have the book by HH you mentioned and there were some I didn't like just like the other authors I mentioned. But they wrote some of my favorite books. Hannah Howell write Highland Bride which still lives in my heart. LK did so many but the biggest was her Wallflower series, GF gave me the Knight Family who I adored, LH wrote the Scoundrel's Of St. James, BS wrote the Border series and a few I enjoyed in her Pleasure series MD Loved Song For Sophia. and all of KM have worked. She can be dramatic but apparently I seem to like that in moments. The book you mentioned I think I remember is that where he has her chained to his bed so she doesn't escape and she is taking care of a baby? If this is the same one... ********SPOILER**********

I'm thinking there was an ex that he ended up going back to after they slept together and, yes, I hated it. It seems to me in this book he didn't sleep with the ex but the main h ended up pregnant and went back to her brother and wife. I think the H realized he made a mistake and came groveling on hands and knees (literally) and she took him back. I'm not sure if that's the same though. It sucked the big one for sure though.

No, that's not the one I was referring to. OMG! That one sounds awful! LOL In the one I'm talking about, I actually loved the H. It's the h I couldn't stand. I didn't dislike her per say, but she annoyed me. The H was really honorable, well except for the fact that he took the h's virginity with no idea what the future held for them. But then, as a captive, if he didn't claim her for himself, someone else would have. The ONLY thing I didn't like about that book is the fact that they slept together too soon. I really hated that and it tainted the rest of the book for me. The fact that she was always defending him, from the very beginning, was also annoying.

But in true HH style, the book was well written and the story a compelling one. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the sex thing. My mood could have been a factor too. I have her Beauty and the Beast, which I really liked. But, my favorite HH so far is Highland Conqueror {Camerons, #1}. Sigimor was delicious and I loved the fact that as soon as he laid eyes on Jolene his heart cried "mine!" That took him by surprise, especially since as she was nothing like his usual type--physically, that is.

Hey ladies, FYI, today's Amazon kindle romance daily deal is M.C. Beaton's Refining Felicity: A Novel of Regency England - Being the First Volume of The School for Manners: 1. It's $1.99 for today and, as we may all be aware, her books usually sell for $5.99. Of course, if you have KU like our Kate does, you wont need to buy any of her books as they are all available in that program. Anyhow, here is the Amazon link, just in case you're interested.

Kate, you wanna talk sin? Here's a HUGE one for you...I've never read Heyer--or at least I don't remember ever reading her before. I've read a few Beaton's and I like them, but she writes weird books. Something always seems to be just a bit off...overly evil characters almost to the point of being a caricature is one example. You really have to be in the mood for Beaton.

And yes, HIGHLAND CONQUEROR was by HH. Amazing book! It's my favorite HH novel and one of my favorite Highland romances. I loved Sigimor and Jolene!

Julie Garwood is one of my all time favorite authors. As is Julia Quinn and Amanda Quick. Although, for some unknown reason, until recently, I had only read two of Quick's books. I also used to love Brenda Joyce back in the day.

I think I already told you, but in the other group (I'm gonna start restricting my comments to this group, because I'm starting to lose track! LOL) but I loaned DREAMER to EB, but have Angel of Skye if you're interested. That was another phenomenal story. The h had amnesia from childhood and had no idea of her real identity. Discovering who she really was added a nice bit of intrigue to the story. Just throwing it out there in case you wanna try something else by these authors before shelling out money!

I said before, I'm not a stickler for historical facts, so long as the liberties the author takes with them works to aid the story in some way. I don't really care about inventions and the like--I have no idea when anything was invented. LOL-- but it really annoys me when the author makes a hash of titles and forms of address. BTW, that's another pet peeve!

Yes, those .99 cents collections are amazing! I purchased one a couple of months ago on pre-order, as I did with BALLROOM. I paid .99 cents for it. It now sells for $9.99! That was a set of four full length. I will post those sets whenever I come across them also, so you guys can take advantage of the deal if you like.

What?! You missed COLONEL'S LADY? I'm so sorry. And I have to admit I had you in mind as I was perusing through the book yesterday. There is a lot of history and I seem to recall you mentioning something about reading history, or some such. Anyhow, for some reason I thought you'd like the setting of the story. Oh well, maybe next time. How much is it now, I wonder? That was super quick! Usually books are free for at least a couple of days before they go back to full price.

Well make sure you check out LEGACY. It's a new freebie--well it's been free before, but not for a while. The storyline sounds interesting. The others are pretty much free all the time, for the most part.
