Genevieve (genevievedeguzman) | 23 comments MJ, just finished catching up with the interview you guys did with David Mitchell today. Loved David's comment on genre and literary fiction: "In my utopian bookshop, there is just a good books section. … Down with genre barriers!" Yep, I would totally buy that t-shirt.

Genevieve (genevievedeguzman) | 23 comments And so glad you asked about the fate of Hugo Lamb. I'm looking forward to that future book where he and Marinus make another appearance.

YES LET'S GET TSHIRTS MADE.
I am not kidding about this.

Genevieve (genevievedeguzman) | 23 comments Even so-called "genre" writers balk at their books being pegged in certain categories. Robert Jackson Bennett, author of City of Stairs, wrote this interesting post about it where he argues that genre diversity in writing is a good thing:

"If your narratives and aesthetics aren’t diverse and dynamic, then you won’t be able to communicate anything worth telling anyone. Storytelling is like an immune system, it needs to be exposed to lots of things for it to respond ably. If it’s only experienced one or two things over its entire existence, it’s going to shrivel up and die when it comes into contact with reality."
