In this thread general things about cats can be discussed.

Which do you prefer, male or female?
Older cat or kitten?
Breed?

Deborah (deborahkliegl) I love the kittens at the shelter, but would adopt any age depending on the cat. I’ve always had females but truly have no preference since I work with all types at the shelter

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 6 comments I’m worried about my kitty. He’s 10 and hardly eating or drinking anymore. He moves very slowly and hardly grooms himself anymore. He weighs a lot less now. I’m not sure if he’s just old or if there’s something else. The other cats are his age and are okay.

Rosemarie We had a cat in that situation and he needed thyroid medication. He perked up very quickly after starting treatment. I am just glad that my husband had the knack for giving him his pills.
He lived to ripe old age of 19 and passed away in his sleep.

My 11-year-old cat is having similar symptoms but his eating has not dropped as much as your cat. We took him to the vet last week and had blood work done to check for metabolic disease. Kidney disease is a main one for senior cats and this could be the problem with your kitty. It can be treated if caught before the end-stage. Can you take him to a vet and get blood work/urine sample done?

My Romeo's results does not show any such issues so the vet thinks it could be arthritis in his spine and he is in pain. We are treating that with herbs and supplements at the moment and having x-rays done next week to check how bad it is. He may need analgesia. Again pain could be an issue for your cat. No two cats are the same.

I hope you get answers for the little guy.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 6 comments I’m taking him in Monday. He’s not acting like he’s in pain or discomfort. He is so skinny and has super low energy.

Could be thyroid. I hope you have some answers

I have had four cats over my lifetime. My first cat was a calico and like you described. Now I have a tabby who has proved to be even a more faithful companion

Hi Audrey I was wondering how your little guy is. Hope all went well.

Hi Sunshine. Welcome to the group. We are small at the moment but each month I spotlight 2 cat books; one for adults and one for children. I hope there are some books you enjoy.
We are all cat lovers here and enjoy hearing about other peoples love of our feline friends.

Pam (sweetscorpion11) | 1 comments I like adult cats, my late kitty made it to her senior years ( 17 in human) and my current kitty is the 7. Adult cats are just as sweet and loving and more adaptable to their humans than rambunctious kittens. However, cats in any form are alright.

Rosemarie I like cats of all ages too, but senior kitties are special. They purr a lot and are very appreciative of affection.

He was treated for jaundice. He is still around but still skinny. Last year our cat Albus was killed by unleashed dogs in the neighborhood. It broke my heart. So we eventually got a new cat whose previous owners had given her up. She is 18 years old and highly active. She loves to sleep on laps all day.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 6 comments Kryten passed on last week. He never fully recovered from jaundice and was declining in other areas too. Tests showed cancer, so he was euthanized. He would have been 13 next month. I miss him but I'm glad he's not suffering.

message 16: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie That's sad, Audrey. I had to say goodbye to Minou two years ago. It was rough but she was so sick.

That's sad but I agree I would not want my cat to suffer. My cat is 13 now but he is doing well. My son is very attached to him and he sleeps with him most nights.
