The Maze Runner is about a boy named Thomas that has to find his place is a new society and place. Completely unfamiliar with his past memories, Thomas wakes up in a cart accelerating upwards and it abruptly stops. As the door opens up he finds himself surrounded by 15 teenagers and a land (The Glade) he has never seen. The character of Thomas progresses in the book by becoming a nobody in this new world to a brave leader of The Glade. This Sci-Fi book was engaging and a good read because of the story and pace. One minute Alby might be in the map room planning, the next, they’re in the Maze with the Grievers. Character development is also great in this book because every character has their own likeability and traits that are not preferred. I think this story has a good mix between action and cliffhangers. The story never seems to drag or become boring, even to a fourteen year olds perspective. With the maze and Grivers, the intensity of this book is maintained. This book is like an ongoing puzzle with characters and the maze. At times I found myself a bit confused with all the different characters, the maze, and unanswered questions. As the book progressed I began to understand more about the underlying message and the deeper thoughts. The book makes you question the reality of this kind of a situation, and how you would potentially handle it in real life. In general I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to primarily teenage boys. My reasoning behind this is because of the violence at times, and the fact that there is only one major female character in this book. Overall this book is a fun read and would also recommend to anyone who is interested in a book that has lots of action and a Sci-Fi edge.
