Greetings Lovers of Paranormal!

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning is our READER PICK for the spooky month of October. It is rated Adult 18+.

Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Karen Marie Moning

"MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…"

Sarah This one's a maybe for me. Apparently I already own it so that's a plus.

B.B. | 3 comments Great book! I love the series and can't wait for the new book in 2015!

message 4: by Jenn (new)

Jenn There's a new book in 2015? I'm out of the loop here. This is a great series, love the books.

I need to find out what the new book is!

The Book Junkie Reads . . . (thebookjunkiereads) | 21 comments I found this to be an absolutely terrific read and the build up is well worth the wait to read through the first five books of the original part of this series. There is so much there that it will get you addicted to the men and the story. . . . you will want to know what is going to happen next.

I would love to put in on my list to read again but I am waiting till it is closer to the publication of the next book... then I will be reading the entire series all again.

Amanda (yzermandy) Awesome pick! I love this series & look forward to the new book!! I'll be re-reading this series (again). I don't read many series over, however this series is more than worth the time! The wonderful thing is that when re-reading the series you still get pulled into the story and can't put the book down!!!

I second that. . .

Jafumbwa | 15 comments I own and love this series and the books only get better as it progresses.

Is the new book people are referring to the off-shoot books--book two actually--about Dani?

message 9: by Dale (new)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) | 26 comments I loved this series. I have to admit I was *not* a fan of Mac in the first book, didn't care for her at all. I'm glad I didn't stop reading the series because of that, because she matures and grows. I also love the world Moning built.

And Barrons? OMG, swoon- and drool-worthy material. And I can't help but be fascinated by the dark fae.

message 10: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) When I first started the first book I hated it. The first half drove me nuts and almost a month went by before I finished reading it. I usually go through a book a day.
When I finished the book, I dived into the next one, hungry for me. The stories get so much better and I end up loving Mac near the end. Barrons, well, he just makes me all tingly. ;)

message 11: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Barrons I loved from beginning. Mac, I hated her. She was a spoiled selfish brat. As the series went on I loved Barrons even more but just tolerated Mac. She's ok now but I still don't think much of her

Yes!

Jafumbwa | 15 comments Its funny how characters "speak" to readers. I didn't dislike Mac. I teach high school and see girls like her every day. She's pretty true to life: somewhat immature, entitled and selfish. Some young people are this way until life wakes them up. As it did her.

Barrons I was intrigued by, but he made me mad. I felt he was entirely too cryptic when all Mac needed was information. He just wouldn't give it to her. I enjoyed the little ways in which she rebelled, and even more his patience when he could have just thrown her out or cut her off.

Jafumbwa | 15 comments Also, this book has been out for a while, so I have no idea how to go about discussing it without spoilers since I pretty much have the series memorized.

Do you know how to do the spoiler .html? Above the comment box, click the golden words (some html is ok). It will tell you how to create different kinds of fancy lettering, including (view spoiler)

Essentially it's < spoiler > and < /spoiler > ... only close up the spaces.

message 16: by Dale (new)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) | 26 comments I agree. I think Mac *was* portrayed as a typical teen, but that didn't mean I have to like it! Selfish, pretty, spoiled girls tend to be brutal toward other girls on the social scale. While she wasn't portrayed as a bully, you almost know the type.

And yes, I adored the conflicting sides of Barrons: hard and cryptic, yet patient. It's a deadly combination for a girl's heart!

message 17: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) Mac's personality is what made it so difficult for me to enjoy the book at first. Shallow, vapid and needing a smack upside the head. KKM did a fantastic job of writing her character and I give her major props for it. I still hated Mac. *laughs*

Once Mac starting thinking instead of wallowing in the shallow end, I liked her.

Barrons, oh yeah, I wanted to hit him upside the head for his cryptic ways. A little information would've gone a long way, but I understood too why he didn't. Here was a pretty, initially useless girl who thought she could handle herself. When in fact, she knew next to nothing. A little information was dangerous in her hands and she kept denying what he did share with her.

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (sevenacrebooks) Love this series! I read all the books quite awhile ago, and am currently listening to them. I love how the characters evolve-Mac starts as such a spoiled, snotty brat! I found her very hard to like and her constant need to do the opposite of what everyone said was very aggravating.

message 19: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 2 comments I found the first book on Barnes & Nobel, for free! Normally, I don't gravitate to these types of fantasy books, especially if they are 'romantic' and nothing else.

I was knocked out with this series! I have been waiting for years, for the follow up book, which I believe is to published in January, 2015.

Thank you Ms. Moning for the Fever Fae Series! Keep writing them, please!!! You have changed the genre of fantasy, for me, forever :).

message 20: by Jafumbwa (new)

Jafumbwa | 15 comments How is the next book with Dani? What's it called? Ice?

The Fever series is one of those that I have a hard time with reading beyond. I'm almost afraid that I'll find out something that I don't want to know.

message 21: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) Yeah, I've been very hesitant to read the next set of books as I like where it ended. Some of the reviews for Dani's book worries me.
