I'm going to do the total git thing of recommending my own book, but as it's a translation I can live with myself. I translated Casanova's account of his escape from prison in Venice in 1755. It's probably the greatest escape adventure ever written, and it's even a (vaguely) true story, but it had never really been published in English until I got round to it.
