Things have gotten slow in Paris--should I keep reading?

I'm about 700 pages into the unabridged Robin Buss translation. I really enjoyed the first third of the book but I've been steadily losing interest since the Count got to Paris. For the past 250 pages he's been sizing up his marks and little else has happened. Can I expect things to pick up soon?

I have been there myself and with the same book. It gets very boring when the Count gets to Paris and I can promise you it continues being boring for the rest of the book. I suggest you though to keep reading because it has some (very few) good and intersting scenes. But even if you don't keep reading you really won't miss a thing.
Yeah, you should. I read it when i was 12 or less and I thaught it was one of the 5 best books I've ever read, so yeah, it kept my interest when i was hyperactive and 12 years old, again. I'll reread it next year :D. You shoulkd keep reading!
Good grief! Keep reading. Yes, the Paris scenes are more subtle, but it is the intricacy of Dantes' machinations that make the book. Even if those scenes don't speak to you, keep going if only for the resolution.

Yes, certainly keep reading. It stays slow for a while, but the many twists are certainly worth it. Best story about revenge ever!
I can understand your concern. The first third of the book includes the Château d'If part which is the best in my opinion. The rest of the book is less intense but definitely still worth reading. The plot continues to slowly cook from Paris onward until the end. It's a great book and I hope you'd finished it by the time of this comment.
Yeah, it gets a little slow, but it's absolutely worth it! If you get bored, maybe switch to the audiobook... I listened to the unabridged version narrated by John Lee and it's EXCELLENT. He has a gorgeous rolling sailor-esque voice that makes even the slower bits of the book a pleasure.
