She felt bad when letters came everyday but worse when they stopped. The postcard lay on top mocking her reminder of something she lost with her own hands.

Eleanor hadn’t written him a letter.

It was a postcard. ‘Greetings from the Land of 10,000 Lakes,’ it said on the front. Park turned it over and recognized her scratchy handwriting. It filled his head with song lyrics.

He sat up. He smiled. Something heavy and winged took off from his chest.

Eleanor hadn’t written him a letter, it was a postcard.

Just three words long.


Eleanor

It was summer now. Exactly one year and six months since she saw him. She still smelled his shirt while going to bed. Still wore the necklace. She went along with Dani to the camp knowing her aunt won't hear no for an answer. She kept seeing Park everywhere. Her room. Kitchen. Wall mart. Everywhere. Smiling that adorable smile at her. Stupid Asian guy. So it wasn't out of normal for her when she saw him leaning against his Impalla when they crossed the field. He waved she waved and she kept walking. She jerked to a stop after few steps and turned like those cartoon characters in the comics park used to give her. He kept his hand on his heart and bowed his head. They stared at each other and then he waited.

He waited

He still waited.


And then she took her first step towards him.

And everyone will build upon a happy epilogue as you did because that's the beauty of the story; you can't imagine anything bad to happen to Stupid Asian Guy or the Weird Redhead. Maybe Rowell intended to keep it that way, because you couldn't read that book and possibly not fall in love with them. Maybe she knew that we all knew- Eleanor and Park were meant to be. Forever.

The best part of the end, Rowell said, was that Eleanor, overcame her insecurities, all her doubts, and wrote that postcard. She always had this thing that their story won't last long. But later, she knew.
And those 3 words were something that made Park's heart flutter and fly with joy. :) Oh man! I love them still so much.. :')

Purvi- I completely empathize with you.. Sometimes you expect a lot more from a book, and you feel bad when you're disappointed. :)
When this book ended, I hugged it and slept that way all through the night. And guess what, I saw Eleanor and Park in my dream, listening to Park's walkman in the bus, laughing away. :D
And of course, holding hands. Holding a butterfly. That was one of my favourite parts. The first time they held hands. ^_^
