Review
This is the first in the secrets series and was a nice quick read. Katie and Jason are childhood friends, Katie has had a crush on her best friend for as long as she can remember and when she impulsively kisses him she doesn’t quite get the reaction she was going for. Heading off to Europe to find herself and meet her biological father. Jason follows her across Europe only making himself known when he foils a kidnapping attempt. Lots of drama, passion and a cliffhanger.

Sprinkle with Murder
Author: Jenn McKinlay
Qualification: Cupcake Bakery Mystery #1
Date read: 11/15/19
Rating: ★★★
Review: Mel and Angie are best friends and business partners at Fairy Tale Bakery, a cupcake shop. The ladies are also BFFs with Tate but they hate his prissy fiancée Christie. So when Mel finds Christie’s dead body clutching one of her cupcakes, she is suspect #1. I loved that this series takes place in Scottsdale, Arizona because I’m from Arizona and spent lots of time in Scottsdale working or shopping. So it’s nice to have a clear visual when the characters are traveling and familiar sites are mentioned. The characters were likable (except for the murder victim, naturally) so I’ll probably continue reading this series.

Review: So much fun to read - this story was full of action, romance, intrigue and just flew by. I really like the world in this series and the interesting use of Chinese mythology and sorcery. Both Crane and Stephen are interesting characters as well.
This book had a great mystery with the giant rats. Normally I'd be rolling my eyes but it worked. We also get a few very hot bedroom scenes and some sweet romantic ones as well. We see a bit more of some of the secondary characters who add to the book (especially Merrick). There's also a bit of humor along the way.
I'm hooked and ready to read the next one.

Review:
Beginning of a new series starring Persia Vanderbilt, who, together with her Aunt, runs the local bath and body store -Venus Envy in Gull Harbor, WA. I liked the basic premise and Persia's skill with scents and botanicals to create specialized compounds for her clients. Also liked the slow-burn potential romance. Her friend Barbara is a great sidekick. The mystery was a little weak IMHO and the ending seemed rushed. But overall a decent cozy.

The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie
How it fits: Stand Alone
Pages: 278
Date Read: 11-15-19
Rating: 4 stars
Review This is only my second book by Jennifer Crusie and what a wonderful little read it was. Daisy and Lincoln set up a deal that turns into much more than what they bargained for. I'm not going to lie. I love how Daisy grows up but also how Linc lets go just a little bit. Its amazing what the love/hate for each other changed both of them for the better. I would absolutely recommend this book for a quick read for anyone :)

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
#2 in a series

Review:
I just feel like this series would be so much better as a couple standard size books. There's too much info dumping and history crammed in to these short 150-200 pages, it just feels overwhelming and like we are more focused on that than on what's currently happening and how it affects the characters. The names are (for me) completely unpronounceable which means I'm hearing gibberish in my head for most of every page. All of that combined together just wasn't an enjoyable reading experience (aside from how short it was) so I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

Week 12 Spot 102
Book: The Laughing Corpse
Author: Laurell K. Hamilton
Pages: 301
How it fits: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #2
Date finished: 11/15/19
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I enjoyed this second book of the Anita Blake series much more than the first. Anita is a vampire hunter and she can raise the dead into zombie form. In this book, someone has raised a zombie which has gotten out of control and is killing people to feed. Anita works with the police to kill the zombie as well as find the person who raised the zombie. Some of the murder scenes were pretty gross but all in all, a very good read.
I finished my book and updated post 354.

I don't see a post in the "post your spot" thread. Just FYI, but it could be my computer is being slow to refresh.
