Will Bert was actually Willy Arburn, a guide who led tours of society members through the Bowery. This was called “slumming.” Had you heard of these tours before or that the origin of the term was from these tours?

This was all news to me. I didn't know there were organized tours for such things. Never thought about the origin of the word.

I’d formed my own understanding of how the term evolved and had no idea is was based on an organized practice. Amazing. Never knew about these tours.

I had never even heard the term before, so it was all new to me. It was interesting learning about it and its origin.
