Discuss Chapter 27 - Chapter 30

NOTE: While this section is meant to focus on the specified chapters of this book, this read is meant for people who have already read the entire series.

As a result, unlike most of our group reads, full spoilers for the series will be allowed without spoiler tags in every discussion post.

If you haven't read some/all of the books (What's wrong with you?) proceed at your own peril.

Dara (cmdrdara) Ch. 27
-Scarlet woman... hahaha.

-I can't imagining harboring so much hate and wasting so much energy on a 14 year old like Snape does. How small of a person are you that you get off on tormenting a kid? And I hate kids.

-I think I'd always forget to bow to Buckbeak and likely get myself injured.

-''If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.'' Sirius says that about Crouch but we see him treat Kreacher badly in OOTP. What does that say about Sirius?

-Ron says: ''I know Dumbledore's brilliant and everything, but that doesn't mean a really clever Dark wizard couldn't fool him –'' and he's right. Crouch Jr fools him quite well.

-Ron says that Percy is really ambitious, foreshadowing for the next book when Percy chooses the Ministry over his own family.

Ch. 28
-It's kind of funny that the elves cover Winky with a tablecloth but also quite sad.

-Crouch fought off his son's Imperius curse and tried to get to Hogwarts. Kind of impressive that he made it that far while fighting for his own free will.

-Dumbledore sends Hagrid a message via Patronus. I missed this until the 7th book came out and (I think) Kingsley sends one to Fleur and Bill's wedding.

Ch. 29
-There's that beetle again...

-Fudge is already showing his closed-mindedness and his prejudice with assuming Krum's attacker is Madam Maxime.

Ch. 30
-''I'm just gonna mess around with this new and unknown magical object.''

-Snape was a Death Eater. This reveal has no impact on a re-read.

-Snape has seen Dumbledore to tell him about the Dark Mark returning.

-The fate of Neville's parents is worse than being murdered. My heart goes out to him. How horrible would it be to have your parents alive but in that state?

I like how Hermoine laughs off Skeeter's "revenge". And if I remember correctly she exposes Skeeter as an Animalgus. Right?

Dara (cmdrdara) She does. Rita is a beetle.

Ah that's right. Hence the comment about being "bugged"

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Yeah I don't think she exposes her, just trapped her and holds it over her head so she won't write any more bullshit. Then Hermione holds it over her head to help Harry next book

Suzanne | 1582 comments It seems like it would be really dangerous to be a beetle.

I'd forgotten how much I dislike Fleur, since she is pretty nice later on. She sure is mean in this book so far! One of those snotty "pretty girls".

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Dumbledore's patronus is a phoenix, don't think the shape his takes is mentioned until the 7th book if I'm not mistaken.

And yeah learning about Neville's parents was a kick in the junk. Poor kid and his gran is always wanting to compare him to them. Although I did always like the scenes with her, feisty old lady

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Yeah totally agree. Ended up being one of my favorite characters. A truly loyal friend

Suzanne | 1582 comments Yeah I love Neville. I had my wild theory that he was the chosen one and Harry was a red herring. And - I COULD have been right.
