Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship (emmadeploresgoodreadscensorship) | 6 comments This one has been bugging me - it's a YA book I read at least 10 years ago about a teen girl stuck at an English boarding school which she hates. She may not be used to England, as I remember how depressingly dark and rainy she found it. She considers suicide, probably by jumping off a roof in the rain. In the end she's removed from the school, for reasons related to a father or brother, but she isn't any happier. This book is about 400 pages long and relentlessly bleak throughout. The protagonist never gets what she wants and is never happy with what she has.

Anything about the cover?

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship (emmadeploresgoodreadscensorship) | 6 comments I think it's set in the first half of the 20th century. Don't remember the cover at all, unfortunately.

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship (emmadeploresgoodreadscensorship) | 6 comments Ha, that's it - thanks, Regan! Looks like I forgot almost the entire plot and only remembered how it felt.

And I don't recognize any of those covers....

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship (emmadeploresgoodreadscensorship) | 6 comments I took the spoiler out of the thread title and linked the topic to the book (I don't know that this topic would be useful to anyone looking at the book page, but for what it's worth).

Emma, I added the URL of this thread to the "why this book?" section of the bookshelf.
