This is a YA book. Its about a girl who isn't popular who's roommate is and they strike up a "odd' friendship. The popular girl is a dancer and the loner girl writes a play for her to dance in that has something to do with a Basilisk. There is also a teacher involved that the loner girl babysits for and the popular girl falls in love with.

I can't say, it seemed very likely to me from what I read about it (sometimes I just google about random threads), but I haven't read the book.
